Took DS to the zoo yesterday. It was his second time going, but the first time he's been aware enough to enjoy looking at the animals. Pregnancy hormones FTW because I almost started crying multiple times when he'd smile or makes noise at any of the animals. Hell I'm tearing up at my desk right now just thinking about it.
I just got back to my office from the dentist, I had a cleaning. I told the hygienist that I just found out I was pregnant and she goes "oh thats great... so your due in April," very quick response, and I was like... "Well March 28... but I havent even had an apt yet." She said congratulations... and then right before she started my cleaning she goes "I havent told anyone here yet... but I just took a test this weekend and Im pregnant too." Totally explaining how she had come up with April so quickly.
@stassischroeder That’s so sweet! My son loves the zoo too, and it’s so fun! We’re hoping to take him to the state fair this weekend for the first time.
AFM, I’ve been catching up here, since I wasn’t around since Thursday. I had a huge project at work Thursday. It went well, but then Friday morning I was so sleep deprived and stressed that I had a mental breakdown at work and cried in front of my new boss and new coworker and I was super embarrassed. We’re still dealing with the ILs, and I’m super antsy about my ultrasound Wednesday, so hoping for the best!
@LittleSEZ ha, yeah not many people can whip out EDDs that quickly!
@MrsVP614 Ugh, I'm glad your project went well, but DAMN you need a break! Hopefully a good u/s on Wednesday will give you a little boost
@silverhope don't get me wrong, there were plenty of times that he just wanted to climb up and down grassy hills and curbs instead of looking at the animals, but it was SO COOL to watch him see some of the animals for the first time. Why are your neighbors cutting down trees?
AFM I forgot to pack my lunch despite making a ton of food for that exact purpose this weekend, so I just went and spent $19 on a carry out lunch that included edamame (protein???), a salad with the best dressing, and two orders of sweet potato tempura rolls! Yum. #worthit
@stassischroeder I’m guessing bc they hate mother nature? I don’t know. The guy moving met DH and mentioned they were redoing a bathroom and the kitchen before they moved in. He didn’t mention chopping down trees.
@silverhope LOLOLOL at "bc they hate mother nature?" I don't understand people who don't like trees, either. Maybe some are at risk of falling on the house? Or roots are invading the pipes and foundation? Or maybe he's using the wood to redo said kitchen and bathroom Or maybe he's just a dick.
Maybe first tri is taking out everyone's motivation to post? I feel like I'm just treading water lately trying to be a normal human haha.
My mom is my MVP lately. She's been helping a ton around the house while I've been a blob. She watches the kids during the day while I work from home, but she's also been helping with cleaning, laundry, and gardening while she's here. I'm sure she's just as excited for us to be on vacation as we are next week so she gets a break from all the stuff she does for us here!
Ya’ll. I just started watching Veronica Mars on Hulu and it’s so good!! I may have watched all 20 episodes of the first season in a week and a half... but it’s so full of teen drama and entertainment. Highly recommend!
@kailanae I agree - maybe a first tri slump? I've been exhausted. I've also been MIA because I was out of town most of last week. Maybe once school starts some of us will be in a better groove?
I'm also super thankful for my parents right now. They brought dinner over last night, took out the garbage and folded all our laundry, including diaper laundry. They also kept DD occupied while I got some stuff around the house done.
Other randoms include: I'm currently having obsessive thoughts about espresso milk shakes. I can't decide if I want to make one with vanilla or coffee ice cream and I'm worried because my hopes are so high right now that I might cry if I eff it up. Also, I've been watching Schitt's Creek as per many of your suggestions and I'm LOVING it. I sobbed through the last 10 minutes of the season 3 finale for some reason.
We finally found a time all our parents can come over so we can announce our pregnancy! They’re coming on Wednesday. It was an ordeal arranging a dinner with 3 sets of parents (H’s are divorced).
Also I worked out today and didn’t feel like trash! Well, actually I did, but I recovered enough to end on a high note. So I’m going to keep seeing the trainer for a while because I feel like I could really use the encouragement and accountability, especially through the first tri.
@keeksie84 espresso milkshake?! That sounds incredible. H made chocolate chip cookies and then we bought ice cream and made ice cream sandwiches. They are SO GOOD. He brought them to work and I’m glad they’re not sitting around here or I would eat them all.
Just catching up on everything as I’ve been super MIA lately.
My random is that i finally felt well enough to actually crave a Starbucks iced coffee today. That’s the most myself I’ve felt in the past 5ish weeks. Yay!
yall i just want to apologize for being so out of it. I am having trouble w/ screens--they increase my nausea--so I haven't been able to participate as much in this community as I know I'd like to. Hopefully, I'll survive first tri and be more active soon. I'm 8w2d today & I have my 2nd appointment this Wed. Holding out for some good news then, & then: onwards. I am guessing I'm not the only one feeling this way, so to all of yall suffering from extreme nausea! We can do this!
All of my dreams came true today. I made this delicious (decaf) espresso milkshake after everyone went to bed, I had a great ultrasound, and DD started walking this afternoon!
*Edited to remove embarrassingly large photo of aforementioned milkshake.
@kantobean Ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies sound equally amazing. I don't usually have a sweet tooth (like, at all) but I did with my last and it's picking up again now.
@laurenm2123 Yay for finally feeling more like yourself!
@kagesstarshroom FX for feeling better ASAP and for an amazing 2nd appointment!
@EmilyLove25 I agree our board is pretty dead, but I suspect it'll pick up. It also tends to weed out the people who are using us as google instead of actually building relationships. @keeksie84 Yay for that milkshake! Sounds awesome!
Hi everyone, well I have been lurking as this is my first pregnancy at 39, so I am pretty nervous to get through the first trimester. My Grandma's Mom was 40 when she had her and also had her last at 45. I am trying to read everyone's posts, especially love all the beautiful wedding dress photos!
I’m jealous of you all with sweet tooth cravings! I’ve usually got the largest sweet tooth but last pregnancy and this one I have major aversions to sweets. I’m doing a 4 mile round trip walk with a friend and our toddlers tomorrow to an ice cream and shop and just realized how much it sucks that I won’t even want any. But DS will absolutely love his so it’s worth it!
ETA I also have coupons for free dozens of donuts at our favorite donut shop and they expire end of the months. Pretty sure DH and DS are going to enjoy them all themselves 😭

@keeksie84 I definitely want to check out Schitt’s Creek. I
also have had MANY thoughts of making a vegan milkshake but haven’t actually
done it yet. If I was home today, I think today might be the day! Your success
is my inspiration (also I wish the picture was still there lol lol). Also YAY
for walking, DD!
@laurenm2123 Yay! I feel like I’m starting to feel a little better
overall too. The nausea is more isolated to specific times as opposed to being
around all day. Of course this just means I’ll eat all the things.
@kagesstarshroom Just remember that nausea is a sign of a
healthy pregnancy! Also that is such a bummer that screens are bothering you
given your PhD work. I hope it doesn’t impact it!
@MrsVP614 So true. You can tell I mention it only when I am
bored at work hahaha!
@varmimama I was you the last few weeks. Normally love
sweets, but they definitely have not sounded as good lately, but for some
reason a milkshake does… Hope you get your sweet tooth back in the second tri!
@varimama so much food I bought pre-pregnancy went to waste (or wasn’t eaten by me) last pregnancy. Even frozen foods. I had vegetarian “crab” cakes that I used to love and I had bought a bunch, then got nausea, then they were an aversion.
@emilylove25 Ugh yes the screens thing is a problem--the excessive nausea thing is a problem all around, though, for every aspect of life, but I am TRULY hoping once school starts, having somewhere to be and something to do will help? But I'm not sure since... I HAVE things to do and they are just stagnate. Being in front of screens pretty quickly gives me seasickness. (Like, literally, when I am typing, I look away mid-type bc the motion of the words appearing on the screen gives me nausea.) Not the TV, but both my phone and the computer--typing and scrolling = really hard. I'm just glad my dissertation is TRULY almost finished and that I worked so hard on it for most of the summer. When I feel alright, the last part I have to finish I think I can copy and paste a bunch of paragraphs from my prospectus to round it out and then hopefully it's minor edits OR by the time I get edits back this stage has passed.
@varimama I don't find that I'm leaning towards sweet or savory alone, I am more of a combination, though I haven't been loving chocolate which I normally love and I HAVE been eating a ton of popsicles, which normally aren't my thing.
Yesterday, I was craving water ice--specifically, a gelati with root beer water ice and chocolate soft serve, my fave,-- so I looked up where the closest Rita's to me is--and THERE IS ONE IN LOUISIANA, an hour away!!!! I really thought the nearest would have to be in FL, since I know there are a few scattered among the south and since FL is basically old, hot NJ, so I am SO happily surprised there's one so close. We are so going. At some point.
Can anyone recommend a book for partners? DH doesn't get why I'm tired and hungry so early in pregnancy. He is soooo accommodating to me, but looking for some reading material to help him understand a bit.
@kagesstarshroom - I dreamed about driving by a Rita's, probably because of your comment. I think I've had it twice in my life, but definitely not craving it. I am hoping to stop by Krispy Kreme's after my appointment, and am hoping I'll still want one when we get there.
We are inviting our parents over for dinner tonight and telling them about the pregnancy. I should be excited but I’m dreading it honestly. Our parents are all supportive but they have their quirks. Last time they were all telling people way too early and my MIL in particular would ask all kinds of questions and give tons of unsolicited advice. Hopefully they’ll be a little more relaxed since this is our second. I know they’ll be excited, I just don’t want them to be all in my business about it. 😂
@lusineg I don't have a book recc--or any actual recc--but I REMEMBER someone at some point recommending a podcast for dads to be? This is almost not helpful at all lol, but hope someone might chime in. LOL at that dream!
@kantobean Glad to hear it went well! I know the feeling, with parents/ILs telling everyone and being all up in our biz. DH has been dying to tell, especially with MIL staying with us. But I want everyone to find out together next weekend.
@kantobean glad it went well! I must be a curmudgeon as well, I wasn’t thrilled with DH telling his family so soon but I felt guilty knowing they are his support system and he didn’t really have other people to tell like I have my old bmb and this one. I just don’t like how they treat me like I’m basically an invalid once I’m pregnant. God forbid I pick up my son or *gasp* carry a glass of water for myself...
Im so not looking forward to telling my parents bc my mom’s verbatim reaction last time was “no, I’m not ready, was this an accident?” It hurt so much. I’ve half joked about not telling them until after the baby is here.
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
@kantobean I too am glad to hear they took the news well!
I myself really only have very few people to tell. My MIL I did tell already and she is super thrilled as she thought we would never have kids and she only currently has one grandson. My Mother passed away four years ago this month and my Dad well I am really not looking forward to telling him or my brothers. I know the first thing my Dad says will be, "aren't you too old"? When I told him about a year ago that I have been wanting a kid he just says, "you?". I've been trying to think of a good comeback if he says something rude.
@varimama Your mom's response... wtf?! Way to make it about her. @wolfcub2020 Hopefully your dad will give you a better reaction than you expect. Why can't people just say, "Congrats, I'm happy for you."
An off-topic random... yesterday I met up with DD's friend and her mom, and the mom was being super judgy about DS's behavior (he was yelling, trying to run away, being a loud rambunctious boy, basically.) She asked me if I had tried this or that approach to behavior, and stated 'her child' never behaved that way, which to me was pretty insulting. I of course just smiled and nodded and said sure, I'll try those suggestions, though inside I was seething. lol.
Keep in mind, the girls are 13.. and DD's friend is an only child. I wanted to say, of course DS is acting like this, he's been forced to sit still for a long time, and he's 3, not 13 like our girls. It's like she doesn't remember what it was like to have a 3 year old. I guess, DD was much 'milder' and more laid-back in terms of behavior when she was 3 than my DS is, and I think her friend was also like that as a little one, so I get that the friend's mom doesn't have that experience of raising a rowdy boy and she doesn't understand what it's like..... but still. how rude and judgemental to call out my 'momming skills' like I'm some kind of idiot.
@wolfcub2020 I'm so sorry to hear your dad's reaction to you wanting a kid... maybe he'll come around, but no need to rush telling him. @treetop19 What in the what? Your child sounds entirely "normal," whatever that means. I hate when parents give advice re: how to control/raise your child. No.
I don't know where to put this ladies, but would anyone be interested in an "NIPT Tests/Results/Discussion" Thread? Is that too triggering? I know the time between when you have the blood drawn and when you get the results feels like forever, and it can help to chat with others in limbo etc. (To be transparent: I just had mine drawn at 8 AM lol).
Well, hi, me again. I meant to say this earlier! I bought the pregnancy journal "40ish Weeks" and I LOVE it. I like it SO much more than the ones I used with DD and DS. It is so, so simple and straight forward! You basically have a page for notes each week and a FEW more directed parts re: questions for the doctor etc. But it's compact and great!
@EmilyLove25 I think most BMBs have had an NIPT thread, so feel free to start one! I will probably have blood drawn for this tomorrow, so I'll join you there shortly
@wolfcub2020@varimama@kantobean I'm ragey reading your parents/IL's responses!!! WTF is wrong with people! @kantobean I'm glad it went well last night, and FWIW, I'm a total curmudgeon too. I'm dreading telling MIL because she's a "should-er." i.e. likes to go on and on about what DH and I should do ...
