Maternity Clothes!

Re: Maternity Clothes!

  • I think I'm going to get another Stitch Fix. I have officially passed the point of no return with regular pants and am HUGE and only have three pairs of maternity work pants. Oh baby it's gonna be cold outside! :) I feel silly wasting the $ but we have another 5 months of this! eek.

@leksiL look for things you could also wear after baby. I’m going with a bunch of wraps and cape-style sweaters this winter. Usually your size is generous enough to allow for a bump!

@rikiteacup I’m the same way. I have also bought a bunch of maternity because I need variety and not to have to do laundry daily. And I’m sure I’ll buy more.... ha

  • @ibabyloveb87 - I do have a lot of cardigans and ponchos, not really worried about tops, just bottoms. I live in New England so it is way too cold to wear dresses all year! I also have about 10 pairs of maternity leggings :relaxed: but I can't wear them to work. I don't want to work from home when it's super cold because it is much warmer in the office.

Also last time (I had a Dec baby) I didn't buy a special coat I just wore my regular coat with a scarf. Luckily I drive from garage to garage so the only time I NEED to go outside on a daily basis is to pick up DD1 from daycare. I am planning on continuing my daily walks as long as it isn't dangerous though. I will probably bring my x-large Irish wool sweater I got in the U.K. to work to wear under the coat for those walks.

For those interested they have extenders that you can zip into your coat if you have a zip-up type coat.

  • @leksiL, ohhh I will have to look into the coat extenders.  I was thinking about what I'd do for a maternity coat!  My daughter was born in June so that was no issue for me last time.
  • @leksiL thanks for the note about coats! I have been wondering what I’ll do. Not that it gets super cold here, but occasionally it’s chilly!

  • My elastic scrub pants (in the next size up, of course) are holding strong, but my boobs and my belly are a couple weeks away from needing the next size top. Even my elastic waist athletic shorts are feeling it haha. I ordered a pair of maternity leggings from Amazon and will probably look into some cape or poncho sweaters. I LOVE sweaters but my massive collection is not remotely maternity friendly 😭 I think I will still fit my tall boots as I had room to spare last year.
  • @leksiL OMG I had no idea about coat extenders!! Thank you so much for mentioning it! I was about to buy a maternity parka because it can be -40 some days where I live. While it would be a solution, I am trying to limit the stuff I buy. I already have too many coats and jackets and didn't need an extra one. There's going to be an extra person in this house and we need to make room in the closets for her stuff!

  • @swiftkey boots aren't my friend right now. I already have huge calves as is. I bought a new pair of the ones I bought last year and the calves didnt fit! They were like an inch bigger round. Finally found and ordered a pair that should work and didn't cost me $300.
  • @swiflet I have a scrub colored lab coat and wear the same boring T-shirt until I give birth.  Seems to resolve the uncomfortable scrub top issue.
  • I had only gotten a few pieces bc I also live that scrub life. I was hoping I could just trade up sizes when needed (ours are distributed at the hospital). I’ve gotten very little other than 2 long sleeve shirts, a t shirt and a nice looking plain black dress, leggings. The coat extender will be clutch. Otherwise I have like a billion huge sweaters from other family members (I’m the runt of a larger and much taller family).

May need more but it’s hard to tell now.
  • I am in need of lounge pants. My favorite ones from my last pregnancy have so many holes. What's your favorite maternity lounge pants??? Helppppp
  • @Mrstomommy1114, I just bought yoga pants from Old Navy. They run big and are baggy but are super comfy!
  • @jvk2012 thank you! I've been eyeing old navy ones and considering just buying a size up in VS Pink collection yoga pants bc I love how they feel but havent bit the bullet.
  • @Mrstomommy1114 I have the Old Navy maternity yoga pants and they are pretty big but I'm sure my belly will grow into them.  Keep an eye out for sales because they run 40% off all the time.

  • @Mrstomommy1114 I’m living in Old Navy sweats - the ones called joggers. Super comfy.
  • Looks like I need to buy a maternity parka (temps will hit a few -40 before this baby is born).
All the jacket extenders I looked at won't work with the zippers I have. Good thing is the price of the jacket extender and the parkas I am looking at (Motherhood and Old Navy) are very close.

  • @rikiteacup - Minnesota, right? I was there once when it was -25 and I thought, why would anyone exploring the country think to stop here? haha they must have come in the summer when it is lovely.

  • I’ve been living in Old Navy everything. Their maternity clothes are so cute and usually on sale!! For lounge wear, I also like Motherhoods under belly shorts.
  • Has anyone tried Kindred Bravely for maternity underwear? I'm so mixed about what brand to get but these facebook ads for kindred braveley keep enticing me to try them out!
  • @Mrstomommy1114 I keep seeing the ads too but want to try but haven't pulled the trigger!

  • @Mrstomommy1114 @brookert615 I have them and absolutely love them! I bought the 5 pack. I might buy another 5 pack :open_mouth: They are super soft and fit me well.
  • Wait. Maybe this sounds dumb. But why do I need different underwear? Does it have like panels or something? Mine is squarely very under my bump.

@22ksi2 you don't necessarily. I started feeling like my underwear was falling off so I bought some pregnancy panties. They are taller and stretchier than regular panties so they go up to about your belly button, depending on the height. If yours aren't uncomfortable I wouldn't worry about it right now.
  • Some of my regular underwear kept rolling down under my belly. I definitely don't wear "maternity" underwear everyday but I do like the pairs I have from Kindred Bravely. They have a slight v that cuts under the bump instead of going over top like most maternity pants. I have found that I like it :)
  • @22ksi2, I never bought maternity underwear last time. I bought bigger sizes in my underwear and it stayed under my bump and was comfy. That’s my plan this time.
  • Going to a continuing ed conference this weekend, which happens to be at a resort. Got an info email...including the resort’s dress code. Fortunately I don’t think anyone will care what I wear sitting in a conference hall all day, but I will now basically be forced to eat room service for dinner both nights because even the casual
restaurants there are “business casual” and last time I checked, leggings were not included in that category. Good thing I’m going by myself and don’t even care but sheesh!

@swiftlet I would pair those leggings with a sweater dress that shows off the bump, tall boots, some nice jewelry and then dare someone to say something.
PS I’m attending an early education conference this weekend, but I didn’t receive such an email so it must be a different one.
  • @swiftlet Yep. I'm with @doodleoodle. I wish someone would hold a pregnant lady accountable for a strict dress code. Also, the right top/dress and accessories can dress leggings up!
  • @doodleoodle it’s a veterinary conference :) I have other stuff to make the leggings work but it’s just the general concept of having to look presentable right now  :D
  • @Swiftlet if you use your leggings as thicker tights instead of pants, you have a lot of options!

  • I noticed that as long as my undies don’t have a huge elastic band like the branded Calvin Klein ones I’m super comfy. Seamless undies work as well as I feel maternity ones would.
  • +1 about the seamless undies being super comfortable!

  • Blah. I am returning my Motherhood Maternity coat and buying from Seraphine. The MM coat was like $70 after rebates but it feels so cheap. I hate the feeling. Seraphine has a great sale for like $169 so I am going to bite the bullet.

  • Anyone have a good recommendation for snow boots? By Jan/Feb I'll need something I can easily slip on without having to bend over, lol.
  • @malloryfrommn I'm planning on using my Sperry boots. I don't zip them usually and just slip them on!

  • @rikiteacup I got a Seraphine wool/cashmere coat on ThreadUp and I *love* it. Wore it to work now that it’s finally gotten cold and it’s so nice feeling put together and chic even though I’m quite differently shaped from my norm.
