Who is a twat waffle today?

Re: TW Tuesday 7/30

  • Life. I haven't seen my parents since Christmas. But it turns out mom has had shingles since February. And I don't have the chickenpox immunity soooo I'm not going to be able to see them until she gets better... They haven't even come up to see our first house that we bought almost a year ago. IDK i'm just emotional and mad and just all the feels right now.

  • @stashattack that's a bummer! Are you very close to your parents? Shingles since February! That seems so long.  I hope she is better soon! Aren't you going to be seeing them at your time share soon? I'm sure you'll get plenty of parent time once your baby girl is here and you'll want them to leave! 😅 kidding, but hope you cheer up soon! ❤
  • @peppyj9 well with the shingles and me not being protected they aren't coming down anymore. Yeah, I'm pretty close since I'm an only. It's just been rocky since I moved out cuz of empty nest and mom becoming extra hover mom which annoys the crap outta me. So things have been a bit strained for a bit, but I still miss them. HAHA I bet. My mom said she would retire once I started popping out kids. I'll have to force her to go back to MD if that's the case. At least I'll have a 3hr lead time if she ever tries to surprise visit that's for sure!!

  • @stashattack oh that sucks. I'm sorry you won't get to see your parents, even if they also annoy you lol. And see, this is just what we were talking about in another thread! How parents would purposefully expose their kids to chicken pox so they'd be immune and not get shingles as adults. Are you unable to get a vaccine because of age or pregnancy? And yes, thank goodness for a 3 hour lead. Since both you and DH are only's and this is first grandbaby for both sets of parents, you're going to be up the wazoo in grandparents coming around lol
  • @peppyj9 right?!?! IT's going to be grandparents city for a while. You can't get it while your pregnant but hopefully I'll get stuck after I give birth. It's weird because I could have sworn I got the vaccine as a kid, but it must have not taken. Being a 90s kid most of us got the vaccine. And I think out of my kindergarten class of 20 like 1 kid got sick total from chickenpox.

  • @stashattack That seriously sucks and I’m sorry you haven’t been able to see your mom for so long! Hope she gets better so she can visit. She must also be going crazy to see you too. How far away does she live?

Also, once your little girl is born you two can hopefully get vaccinated together!
  • My tw is work right now. It’s been busy and I feel like I don’t have enough time to do everything. Plus my boss’ boss has just been annoying to deal with. I feel a little stressed and meh about it all right now!
  • @blackcat01 work is the worse. I'm also dealing with work related issues. But my boss is behind me with it. It's the other department. I'll need to keep my hormones in check so I don't reach across the meeting table today and smack the one person. Cuz she's been 0% help in these old rules that they are only now enforcing...

  • @stashattack ugh I’m sorry you’re dealing with work shit too. At least your boss has your back and it’s with a separate department, although, that doesn’t mean it’s less annoying. Hope something can work out. Otherwise I say just slap the shit outta them!! LOL
  • @stashattack actually, you can still get shingles even if you had the chicken pox. It's just that you can't get shingles from someone with shingles, but you can get chicken pox from someone with shingles. But she shouldn't still be contagious. It's 3-5 weeks for shingles.
  • @stashattack and @blackcat01 sorry you guys are dealing with an annoying work situation now. On my end I'm just so unmotivated to do any work at all in any way. The summer is slower so I'm hoping I get more into it come fall/winter to make the time go faster.
  • @persnickity my OB said doesn't matter just stay away until her shingles is cleared up. So gonna follow the DRs orders on that one. She has the viral kind so that probably also makes a difference. But I'll have to pester my sciency husband for that one.

Thanks guys on the work front. It's just been a headache with our student financial services being a pain in the butt with student payments and they don't have great answers for us. But we are making tiny steps forward with it. So fingers crossed in the next couple of years we will have better solutions.

  • @stashattack yup I would definitely stay away.  Anyone that has Shingles is because they had Chicken Pox before.  What causes Shingles is the same virus that causes Chicken Pox.  The Chicken Pox virus goes dormant in your nervous system and can spontaneously resurface as Shingles.  You won't get Shingles but you most definitely could get Chicken Pox and you don't want that shit pregnant.  Did anyone understand my babble?

  • @mispanda totes makes sense! Just sucks. I hope it clears us for her soon. She said she was on an antiviral for the first round, it went away, and then came back rencently. :(

  • @mispanda You stated that so much better than I did! Thanks!
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k Thanks! I hope you get your motivation back. It’s hard to explain, but I’m so busy with things that I can’t delay, but I’m slightly unmotivated to do it as well. Let’s blame it on pregnancy and just being tired lol
  • In case you ladies were unaware, men know more about our reproductive systems than we do. Apparently, women over 35 can't get pregnant, as one TW told a guy. This guy is 27, and his fiance is 28, and TW told him they better get a move on if they want kids, because the fiance only has 7 years to have kids. Being 42, and quite knocked up (for the second time in my 40s AND I gave birth at 35, I add), a loud HA! burst from my mouth. "Women can become pregnant right up until they complete menopause. It's not as common. There are more complications. But, it can happen. Never use age as birth control" The TW looked at me dismissively like I didn't know what I was talking about. As my condition becomes more obvious, perhaps he'll be proven wrong?

@FyreFlyeRush Wow, what a complete moron! I hope that couple doesn’t listen to his advice...just wow lol

    (edited for spelling)
  • @mispanda what?! All this time I thought the whole reason to get chicken pox was so that you don't get shingles! That's why people were running around infecting their kids. Wtf. It's super crazy to think I have this virus just laying around dormant in my body. At least now they have a single vaccine for older adults (just looked that up) of course they didn't come up with a chicken pox vaccine until I was 12 🙄

@FyreFlyeRush wow, what an utter moron. What does he think, as soon as the clock strikes midnight on your 35th Birthday your eggs just shrivel up and die? Mansplaining at its finest. 😏

@stashattack The varicella (chickenpox) vaccine wasn't licensed until 1995 and wasn't really given to most kids of school age until around the year 2000. I was born in 89 and no one around me got the vaccine. If you get chickenpox you can't get chickenpox again but you can get shingles which is when the virus re-emerges from a latent phase in your body and causes problems. So that is why the vaccine is so awesome. You don't get chickenpox or shingles. Anyways, I wonder if you can still get the chicken pox vaccine so you could see your parents or if they won't give it to pregnant women.

ETA obviously didn't read all the posts before responding. What @mispanda said lol!

@peppyj9 The reason that people infected kids with chicken pox is because the effects aren't as bad if you are infected as a kid rather than an adult not because you don't get shingles.
  • @biolprof varicella is like the MMR where it's not given to pregnant women because of complications. I was born in 92. My OB said that they would vaccinate after the pregnancy. So until then, no mom until she's better.

  • @stashattack I figured since you hadn't already had it. Interesting but sad!
  • @biolprof I had been misinformed this entire time! You learn something new every day! Thanks professor! 😉
  • @peppyj9 sometimes I can't help but let the science out lol! Glad it was useful!
  • I love when science comes out!

@FyreFlyeRush I sincerely hope he isn't using age as birth control. That's one of the dumbest things I've heard.
  • @persnickity I hope he kinda is as a totally slap in the face if he gets someone knocked up. More for him than the poor chick that has to carry his spawn.

  • @stashattack If it just impacted him, I could wish that. But it's going to impact the woman and the poor kid. I can only imagine his resentment of them if it were to occur
