Large subchrionic hematoma at 7 weeks

Hi,
I am just looking for some support i recently found out at about 6 weeks I had a large subchrionic hematoma seen it measured almost 5cm 😞 they did see baby with a heart beat which was comforting, but it seems like such a large bleed especially in comparing to some other stories I’ve read. Anyway the ultrasound tech didn’t say much about the bleed, and I’m just hoping for some feedback from anyone here who might have had a similar situation and their outcome.
I should note I had nearly two weeks of on and off heavy bleeding and spotting from about 5weeks over the last week I’ve only had light spotting. Thanks

  • I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this... I too am having a similar experience with two hematomas but not as large as yours. I have done a lot of research and the only things we can do is be on complete bedrest, drink 90 to 100 ounces of water a day, eat healthy, get plenty of sleep, don't stress, and pray! I hope the best for you!!!

Thanks so much for your response! I hope you’re doing well and the hematomas are getting smaller. I had a recent ultrasound that showed mine has shrunk to about 3.5 cm and looks to be healing! I am hoping it continues to heal.. I am now 9 weeks and our little fighter seems to be growing well. Just as an FYI I had a very major bleed about a week ago right before my ultrasound but I think it was some of the old blood coming out.. I was pretty scared but it wasn’t my first bleed in this pregnancy and they said it was just the hematoma and baby looked great. I am trying my best not to lift and rest but it’s hard with a two year old.. and the drinking tons of water like you said! Hoping the best for you and your little one.

  • SCH are so scary. I feel like it’s one of those things that happens often, but doesn’t get discussed often. I had a big one at 7 weeks as well and was sure we’d lost our babe, because I’d never heard of a SCH so assumed the worst. Even big ones can turn out ok. It isn’t all doom and gloom in every situation like the internet will lead you to believe <3
  • I'm currently in my 16th week of pregnancy. I have a SCH as well. I ended up going to the ER twice because of heavy bleeding (Week 6 and 12) and nothing was wrong with the baby. I was referred to a Maternal Fetal Medicine(MFM) Specialist after my second bleed. The MFM said that sometimes with heavy bleeding it can weaken the placenta so I am continuing care with the MFM throughout the pregnancy.

There isn't much you can do except take good care of yourself. Worrying about it will just add extra stress which the baby can feel. So relax, breath, and know that whatever the outcome you are doing your best.  Its been hard for me take that advice but focus on the good stuff.

Side note if you haven't already announced your pregnancy it might be a good idea to wait unless you prefer extra support. I told everyone pretty early and then we ran into these complications now everyone is treating me like I'll break the baby if I stand up too fast.  Kinda annoying.
  • I had a large hematoma in my twin pregnancy and Dr. made sure to tell me as long as it didn't grow, it should't hurt the babies. Eventually around week 16, my babies outgrew it and squeezed it all out. I did bleed red enough for a pad though pretty much from week 6-16. Good luck to you!!
