Pregnant after 35

Did anyone have issues with low cervical mucus and still able to conceive?

Hi all,
I am 35 soon to be 36. I have one 22 month old son. My husband and I have been ttc for 2 cycles without success. I haven't noticed any cervical mucus indicating ovulation. It was obvious ewcm when I was ttc with my first. I am 15 lbs heavier and 2 years older. I plan on losing weight while ttc. My question is this...i was wondering if anyone here was able to conceive and had cm issues? Did anyone try preseed or fertilecm supplement? How long would you wait before going to doctor? 6 months? I know I could post this in the ttc forum, but I wanted specifically to get over 35's experience.

  • Hi there! I am also 35! I was concerned because I had very little, if any cervical mucus. I did a ton of research and learned that ewcm means ovulation, but mine was non existent. To be honest though, I didn't use that as an indication to start trying. I tracked my cycles for 4 months before TTC and they all seemed pretty regular. When it came time to TTC, I used ovulation predictor tests instead. I started using them 2 weeks after my period and I got pregnant on the first try! If you have irregular cycles though, you might want to use them every day until you get an ovulation positive. Good luck to you!

  • I didn’t have ewcm either and was really concerned, this last cycle we used preseed and I took mucinex leading up to and during ovulation. Just got my bfp yesterday :)
  • For my first and third (current) pregnancy, I was counting cycle days and paying attention to mucus... some months it was there (but ovulation tests were negative... tried anyway) and other months I didn't notice any change at all. And when I did conceive, neither time seemed like there had been clear signs of ovulation, it was honestly a pleasant surprise because after nearly a year of trying for our fislrst child and my OB telling me I need some medical help, we suddenly were pregnant (is it possible for a planned pregnancy to be a surprise?). So don't get discouraged... keep trying, stay hydrated, and good luck!

Rather than focusing on little bitty symptoms. Shoot for over all hormonal balance, and everything else will fall into place.
Definitely take myo-inositol if you aren’t and there are a number of excellent herbs that can really get you back on track—that alone could do it. Maca is one that women swear by, helping to bring things into balance. Chaste tree. Oat straw tea is powerful. Red Clover tea too! All very safe and nutritious! The teas are full of good minerals.
Make sure you’re eating a low processed-sugar diet as poor blood sugar handling can really throw off your hormonal communication, brain to pituitary. Stress is also the enemy of hormonal balance.

  • You might have EWCM, just not enough to show up in your underwear! Do you track your cervix position and softness? In the months I didn’t get noticeable EWCM there was some around my cervix when I checked. That is usually enough to help the sperm get to their destination. Though there are supplements specifically for EWCM production, and there’s always good old musinex. Also - be sure you’re drinking enough water! I’m 39 btw and also noticed a reduction in EWCM, but I was able to get pregnant.
