I will post more later when I’m home, but we are going for a grey/green gender neutral situation. I’m picking up Little Animal Print Shop prints tonight - jungle theme - elephant, monkey, giraffe, white tiger.
My current issue is trying trying to find the right pale sage/grey paint. I got Sherwin Williams sea salt and it’s pulling really blue for me.
@ktmaesim check Facebook marketplace for the crib if you’re not opposed to secondhand. We got a $1200 Stokke Sleepi for $400 that was legit never used. Grandparents bought it for their vacation home. Grandkids live on the other side of the country 😂
Y'all I am SERIOUSLY unqualified at decorating, lol. At this point I have a general theme picked out for each gender.
We have a local artist who I am *obsessed* with, and if it's a girl, we're going to make his artwork the anchor of our nursery. Here are two of my favorite prints of his (he's a printmaker). The series is called "The Trapper's Daughter." Sidenote: We're not into hunting/trapping/anything like that, though it's popular where we live, we just love the fairy-tale-esque feel combined with the outdoorsy-ness.
I feel like this theme would be a little too feminine for a boy, so I'm leaning toward storybook/fantasy theme if it's a boy, based around Emily Winfield Martin's work:
Target has some super cute stuff that I think would go with it, but of course I can't find any of it online...
@ninrms That artwork is so unique and cool! And Thank you!! I am very into interior decorating so I am super excited to be doing my first nursery! @anniemarie887 don't have facebook... but my mom said she would buy me the crib so I'm not worried about the price LOL...also for paint swatches my fav interior blogger always posts her paint swatches and none of them have done me wrong so far... look up Room For Tuesday on Pinterest or go to her blog and search paint swatches. she is awesome
We've registered for yellow and ocean print sheets, plush animals, accessories... I even found a yellow submarine clock on Etsy. I think it'll be super cute when it's done.
@anniemarie887 look at BM Nimbus 1465. It’s the grey we used in our nursery and it really is a true grey, no blue or purple undertones. We painted it when we moved in before we got pregnant so I knew we needed a grey that wouldn’t have that blue undertone.
Using our guest room as a nursery. We will need to paint. Likely either light yellow or green. We are getting a crib from my co worker for $50 and I have no idea what color it is.
Likely will do Winnie the Pooh again. (Poor 2nd child) unless I can get bedding or a theme cheap. I think my MIL has some crib bedding from my nephew.
We are doing a safari theme! So I'm loving all the cute jungle themes ❤ I will post some pics later when I'm home. We are doing a neutral to girly vibe with a heavy focus on Giraffes. I had a very emotional, heartfelt experience with a baby giraffe this year and I'm very obsessed with them now.
@anniemarie887 Gray is a bitch to choose and paint with. We went thru dozens of samples for our house before finding one that wasn’t beige or purple.
We actually started nursery prep yesterday. We’re using ods crib and got a matching dresser to use with a changing pad. Of course I hit up Hobby Lobby for their woodland/rustic decor- moose, deer, mountains, all wood and weathered looking. I still need a mattress and crib skirt and we’ll be done. I’d like to buy another crib sheet, changing pad cover, and blanket that are similar themed to switch things up every now and then.
We are doing a space theme because my DH is nerdy and likes star wars but I didn't want to do a "star wars" theme so this is our compromise- colors are going to be navy blue, light blue and gray with white accents. I plan on doing a starry sky/constellation accent wall with this wallpaper I found on pottery barn kids- the other walls will be light blue.
The crib will be white and gray and the dresser/changing table will be white- we are using the glider we used with DD which is gray. So far decorative things I have found but haven't purchased yet are a moon and star mobile from Etsy, a shelf that is in the shape of a rocket ship from Target and I'm having prints made that say- Moon of my Life and My sun and stars (able to fit space theme and tie in some Game of Thrones in there). I am also having a wooden name sign made from The Trendy Timber to hang on the wall.
Probably will be white curtains, still looking for bedding for the crib and some kind of rug!
We are using the same crib as we used with our older boys, so just trying to make everything cohesive. I the room is a light grey and I am praying it works ok with the colors I am planning. I believe the grey is Mindful Grey
@bookworm492 - you're in Chicago right? between Baltimore and DC I've been able to find some really great stuff on Facebook marketplace (perks of being in a bigger city!) - I would much rather reuse something than have it wind up in a landfill!!!
@ale9687@k_mama91@klmcguire thank you ladies for the suggestions! Gray can be an absolute nightmare. A lot of our house is gray already, too... so I'm trying to find something that doesn't just look like we were lazy and painted the whole place the same color (which talk to me in a few more months and that might be my last resort). I grabbed a couple more samples last night, but was not in the mood at 8pm to paint swatches. I did find out the color is the inspiration photo I love is BM Boothbay Gray, so I'm the proud owner of a sample of that and a couple more green leaning grays (can't remember names right now). Hubs keeps saying the current color (SW Dorian Gray) is fine... but I think it's too dark.
***Lowe's is running $15 rebate on gallons of paint until 7/10
I was able to find the exact drapes (yay, Target!) and rug (overstock!) from the one inspo photo. Pinterest is super helpful with the whole "shop this pin". The rug pulls more green than blue in real life... I do want to find a mirror to go above the dresser, and we've been looking for something antique but have this West Elm x PBK one as a back up picked out. (Clearly I have goofed off all morning mashing this up, decorating/interior design is something I've always enjoyed.)
@anniemarie887 I love everything about it!! I love the modern look, I wish I didnt have a sentimental tie to my crib, I hate it and want something less clunky, but here i am refusing to spend more money and just using what I have lol.
@klmcguire thank you. I hear you about spending money, my parents are generously offering to buy the “big stuff” and I’m trying to be respectful on spending. It can spiral out of control really quickly. The glider we actually liked the best (we are both kinda tall, and a lot of them are low backed) was on the lower price point at Buy Buy Baby which I was stoked about. I sat in a couple $1000 ones that were so uncomfortable, and I was always shocked looking at the tag. For $1000 it damn well better feel like I’m sitting in a cloud.
@anniemarie887 yea I'm in the Chicago area, there is plenty online! We haven't started buying stuff yet. Maybe end of summer we will. I honestly don't care what it looks like as long as it's functional.
@anniemarie887 I love that rug! I've actually been eyeing it up for our house for a while! The whole gliders being uncomfortable thing blows my mind, there's going to be a lot of time spent in that chair they best be comfortable! We ended up finding a dutailier glider on Craigslist for $75 virtually unused! we love it!
Do you all think a glider is imperative? I have a comfy armchair in my living room that I love, but is baby way happier in a rocker/glider? I'm limited on space, so if I go for a glider, I'll probably have to get rid of my armchair (no room for a chair in the teensy nursery room) so that's why I'm wondering.
@blueskychicago12 my DS loved being rocked. Every night we had the same bedtime routine, bath, bottle, rock in the chair, it instantly got him to relax and go to sleep. It also calmed him down when he woke up in the middle of the night. If a rocker in the nursery or bedroom (wherever baby’s sleeping) won’t work look at rocker.mama on Instagram. It’s basixally a portable back rest you can use in bed or a chair and rock.
@ashorkey we managed to get that rug back @ memorial day for $122 in the 7x9 size - I'm sure Labor Day will bring more crazy sales. I wanted something that if baby pukes/poops on I won't shed too many tears if its ruined.
I hope that went over okay, it's hard to send stuff from the app sometimes. We are very lucky in the sense that my husband's co-worker has offered to give us their old crib! (His daughter is about 2 or 3 so it's not that old). But I have no idea what it looks like! I can't wait to see it so I can plan better.
I also saw this amazing idea from a YouTuber the other day. She baught IKEA spice racks (3 or 4 of them for like $5 each) and used those for a book shelf. It looked adorable and is super affordable. I think I'm going to do that as well. We are turning our living room into a nursery/living room. We have 4 bedrooms but 3 of them are upstairs as opposed to our room down stairs. I don't plan on having her up there until I feel comfortable with her going up and down the stairs by herself all the time.
We're reusing all the furniture from DS & DD which we bought at Land of Nod back in the day:
This Crib Similar to This Dresser, but without the Jenny Lind style legs. Similar to This Changing Table, but not exact. This Glider (Not sold anymore, but the best money I ever spent! Needs a good steam cleaning, though!)
I haven't thought about paint colors or decor yet. We like to keep things pretty simple. BM Pear Green is a fun bright green that we used in DS's room, but I may pick something completely different. I may get DS & DD to help pick decor for the room ... once we tell them about the baby.
All of our babies have been nicknamed superheroes while inside. This one is Spider baby. So likely the nursery will be a subtle nod to that. Traditional Spider-Man colors if we are having another boy. Spider Gwen colors (black and white with splashes of bright pink) if we are having a girl. Beyond that I haven’t done much, we should find out sex in a few weeks. Then I’ll start working on it. But honestly the baby will be in our room the first 6 months at least, DS is still young enough to have a changing table we can use, so other than a place to park clothes I’m not too worried if we don’t get done before baby is here.
Re: Nursery Plans!
I am hoping we'll get this vintage looking black crib from Crate and Barrel but it's been out of stock for months!!! https://www.crateandbarrel.com/larkin-black-metal-crib/s435790?si=2805457&aff=cj&cjevent=6dab7a209f4711e982f002fe0a240613
Also purchased and installed this mural, that's pretty much the only progress so far haha....

Our spare bedroom is itty bitty and painted a cream color. I'm planning to get this mini crib (in pink):
This rug:
