I can’t believe it was 2 years ago that I sent my DH a text of a positive test. So much has changed since then!

Today I discovered something hilarious. Nate has this annoying veggietales book that sings silent night over and over and over. He will stop whatever he’s doing to play it again. My husband was in the other room so I said, “take it to daddy.” And off he went. Silence was mine for all of a minute until I hear, “no don’t do it. Are you serious!?” 😂

Free Chick-fil-A day if you dress up like a cow.  You don’t have to go all out.  Wear anything that looks like a cow or pin some spots on you.

  • Saturday DH and I are hiking to the bottom of a gorge and climbing about 1300 feet out. It takes several hours and that’s several hours without Nate. I can’t wait! The terrible twos are upon us already and I need a serious break

  • I"m really excited, but right now I just can't wait to be done packing and planning for two of us while DH runs around unable to find his other suit cause the one he can find has a food stain on it and who knows when he last got either of them dry cleaned ugh.

You know what I'm sayin ladies? :D

  • Possible TMI question, but did anyone else have a tough time physically readusting to the pill post-baby?  I wound up going back on the pill after my doctor kept delaying my IUD for BS reasons. I was an hour and a half late taking one pill ONE day, and I've had my period for the past week (even though I'm still taking active pills right now). This is basically what happened after N - got a period every two weeks for four months while I was on BC, stopped taking it to try to "reset" my body, and then Murph came along.  Seeing a new doctor next month and will talk to her about it - just curious if anyone had a similar experience!
  • @ashtuesday I don’t have any experience but sorry for you. Hope the new doctor can provide some help and easily/quickly
    ashtuesday
  • @ashtuesday my body took at least one pack to readjust. I don’t remember exactly how long, but it definitely didn’t go back to normal immediately. I hope you get back to normal soon!
    shoretobeashtuesday
  • I can’t take BC for reasons similar.  On several different types I would bleed for three weeks and be off for a week.  I wish it worked for me, but it doesn’t.  I hope they find the right combo.

I stopped pills a long time ago for this reason.  I once spotted and bled back and forth for 45 days straight.  My period would always last longer than 7 days when it was a more "regular" cycle too.  The nexplanon worked until i had my first real pp period and it was the same stuff so i got that removed.  I ended up buying a tempdrop to monitor my bbt to try to learn my cycles better but for now unfortunately, its condoms.

I can’t do pills either. They magnify all of my period symptoms and make it last longer. I tried an iud after my first and it came out. We did condoms for years until DH got his vasectomy.

  • I wonder if the pills are why my periods are SO much worse now? I quit taking them 4 years ago and just started again after Nate was born. My vagina feels like it’s going to fall off every time from so much pain and I’m overly tired. I didn’t even think it could be the pills...
    shoretobeashtuesday
  • @mccurleya mine are much worse (cramping wise) but I don’t take the pill. I attributed it to changes from having a baby. Lucky for me mine are only 3-5 days since I start shots on day 3 of my cycle in our attempts for baby #2.
disclaimer: I’m a terrible example for all this because of PCOS and fibroids - my cycles never make sense 😂

On another note: what kind of milk is everyone giving LO’s? Pedi said whole milk 2-3 cups a day, no more bottles. Chiropractor suggested almond milk. She tolerates the whole milk just fine (though it was an adjustment from bottle to cup) but prefers water and I don’t push the milk because she usually has at least a yogurt a day amongst other things.

We do banana almond milk. It is from almond breeze and has banana puree in it. We were doing plain almond milk before but he won’t drink it now.
as long as they are getting enough calcium they don’t need it.
He mostly drinks water with a little juice mixed in.

  • We do a small cup of milk after each meal and water throughout the day. He gets the occasional green tea when he goes to my MIL because he insists on drinking what we drink, but I don’t like that much because of the caffeine.

  • Thanks, ladies - it's good (relatively speaking lol) to know what I'm experiencing is in the realm of normalcy.  I hope the pill doesn't wind up being ruled out for me permanently!  One of my coworkers referred to this as super fertility after pregnancy, which is a nice thought after the trouble we had having N.

Nora drinks good ol' regular whole milk, but like @shoretobe said, she prefers water.  I offer her milk first multiple times a day - sometimes she'll only drink half a cup in a day, sometimes she'll drink three.

We get about 3- 8oz cups of whole milk a day with meals.  Kid loves milk.  I also let him carry around a cup of water most of the day so he gets that too.
    shoretobe
  • I give her whole milk, but not really in a pattern.  Her diet is amazing right now, so I am not worried about calcium consumption.  Otherwise, it’s water. My kids have horrible teeth and we had to cut out juice completely. It’s either whole milk or water.

I would eventually like to transition them to plant based milk, but when you start with regular I think it’s hard to transition them. They drink chocolate almond milk, but I don’t give that to them regularly.  Sam’s young enough I could probably transition slowly by mixing them together, but my boys are whole milk drinkers and my oldest daughter hates any milk.

  • I don’t remember if anyone has already brought this up, but is anyone’s LO biting?
  • Nora has bitten, but it's not a regular occurence. She'll do it to my husband when they're playing or to me when she wants attention. We always respond with a sharp "No!  We do not bite!" and she stops.  It seems like SHE thinks biting is weird, so she stops quickly lol
    shoretobe
  • Sam does randomly, but not on the reg. It’s usually when she thinks she is funny.  Obviously, it’s not.

I agree on the attention getting and not know it’s hurting on the biting. Declan really only bites DH ever and it’s usually when he is trying to get him to play.

LO occasionally bites also. Like Sam, he also does it when he is being silly.  He will bite my arm, not hard, and laugh.  He has bit a few times where it hurt and left a bruise but i told him no and pinched his nose to make him let go.

He also got bit at daycare the other day too.
    shoretobeDDRRT1982
  • Nate has been bit at daycare. But he’s intentionally biting when he doesn’t get his way. We’ve tried the stern no. We’ve tried time out. We’ve tried popping his mouth. Nothing is working. I know consistency is key, but he’s biting hard. He left bad bite marks that scabbed my husbands nose. I’m just at a loss.

  •  How is everyone doing ? Can’t believe we’re half through summer. All the sudden LO seems like a kid. A lot more babbling and trying to do things on her own. I’m amazed by how much she seems to understand. She even puts her hat on and brings us her shoes when she wants to go outside. This age is fun but tiring trying to keep up with her.

  • All is well here - it is INSANE that it is August 1st!  Part of me is looking forward to school starting in September - being home with N and M, there are days I look up and it's 4:00 and I've accomplished nothing.  I know it won't be any easier to get things done around the house in the fall, but at least I'll be able to achieve things in a day at work!  Most of me wants summer to last forever.  I've finally written out the list of everything I absolutely want to do with the time we've got left - first stop, Sesame Place, so I'll let you all know how it goes!  And I'm totally with you on the baby-turned-into-a-big-kid front.  We've been going to the library a lot and it's so funny watching how Nora acts in a "class" setting - the way she follows along during storytime or plays with the kids.  She's such a little woman!

  • @ashtuesday - adorable!
My recommendation would be to go to Sesame on a week day if possible - or get there early. We went on mid afternoon on a summer Saturday and it was too hot and too crowded. She loved the rides, but it was too much and we didn’t end up staying long.  Look into the Dine with Elmo- we did that in December and it was great! I want to go back at Halloween but don’t think I’d do the summer again (we didn’t even attempt the water stuff). Bring water in with you too! We left ours in the car 🙄 let us know how it goes!!

  • Hello ladies, I'm back. Missed you all!
OMG yes, Vinny is a kid now. It's crazy. She understands so much! You can give her complex instructions - pick that up and put it here - and she'll do it. And she is soooo willful. She gets really mad when things don't go her way.
@mccurleya V hits more than bites. And generally thrashes. I get headbutted a lot. Things that have helped (not magic fixes, but...):
    • I try really hard to rarely use the word "no." So if I have to take something away from her, I plop her in her play space first, then wrangle whatever it is from her insanely strong hands.  :o Or I try Yes-But. "Yes, you want to hold something this size, but a knife is dangerous. Here's a spoon."
    • When she hurts me, I stick with the stern No! You're hurting me. Then when she's calm, I show her in the mirror. Or if Papa is around he can say "Is Mom ok? Oh no. Look. You hurt her here (point at red marks) with you teeth." Frown and say "Sorry Mommy."
It's frustrating, but I keep telling myself it's just a phase. She can't use her words yet. And do my best to stay calm myself.

  • @shoretobe Thank you!!!  We were planning on a weekday until we realized my husband only has 3 PTO days left 🤦🏻‍♀️ So for our first trip, we'll be weekend warriors. Dine with Elmo sounds like such a good idea - we'll do that!!

  • Nate is also a little kid now. He can follow complex directions too! It’s so impressive. I’m also impressed with his vocabulary and how correct his words are.

We started back school yesterday and it’s been ROUGH. I switched teaching positions from inclusion to self contained special ed and I’ve already been hit, kicked, scratched, and my room destroyed. She’s not coming back, but still. Rough.

  • Sam doesn’t want to be a baby anymore, for sure. The funniest part of watching her grow is how she picks up on how her siblings are treated versus her.  For example, if I give her half a sandwich, because that’s the appropriate size sandwich for her size, and she sees her siblings get a whole sandwich she gets mad and rejects it all until she gets her fair share.  It’s so funny, but often time a big waste.
