So, I decided not to do my Harry Potter idea because I felt like no one would understand it unless they were really into Harry Potter. Since this week is Shark Week, DS loves sharks (hence his shark bed sheets and shark floatie), and how popular the Baby Shark song is...I decided to go that route. This is what I posted on fb yesterday:
I love all of these so far! We’ve told our families and close friends. I’m telling my boss today in a couple hours (I’m so nervous!!). And we are announcing on social media this weekend.
I just had a stroke of silly genius on how to break the news to coworkers.
As mentioned in the weekly checkin, I'm going to bake some sugar cookies to share (they'll have blue and pink sprinkles!)
My work team deals almost exclusively with ComEd (Power provider in IL for anybody unfamiliar). We usually send emails around if we bring in treats. I'm going to send one tomorrow that says something along the lines of "The more babies being added to our team the more we're turning into MomEd!" And sign it from me and Baby R.
It's also funny because the one mom on the team has a pop socket on her phone that says MomEd! By February we'll have 3 moms!
This is what we posted on Facebook. MH had tweaked it for our pregnancy announcements we are mailing out. We take care of several older neighbors that don't have Facebook so we wanted something for them and for relatives.

Announced at work this week (14 weeks and the bump has arrived already with my second pregnancy). Bought a box of coffee and made a sign that said “Baby is brewing”. For my closer coworkers on my team I picked up microwave popcorn and put a note “expected to pop”
We are getting a big brother shirt for our first and wearing it to our family beach trip to make the announcement in person.
We went to the beach this week with my whole family and had professional photos taken. In one with just my husband, daughter and me we wrote in the sand that we are expecting. We will post it after our 12 week appointment.
I don’t have social media so no cute announcement for us, but we did tell my parents this morning with permission for my mom to tell everyone else in the extended family. We tell his family at the end of the week when they’re in town. Going to group text friends and coworkers.
@babylawyer Key West was gorgeous! January was a little cold for my taste but perfect weather for jumping. That was my first(only) time skydiving, and I'm already planning on jumping again with a friend next June for her birthday. That jump would just be here in Nebraska. Where has been your favorite place to jump?
Looking for opinions for my work announcement (I work in an elementary school).
It’s a tradition to put out pastel butter mints in the staff room, but not reveal who is pregnant. People guess and gossip and ask until most figure it out. It’s fun because it becomes a whole thing about how there are mints in the staff room. The issue is that I’ll be 16 weeks when school starts and I feel like I already look so pregnant, so it won’t really be a mystery.
The other option would be to have DS wear his “Big Brother” shirt to the end of summer potluck. This issue with this one is that not all staff with be there and it strays from the tradition.
@aleciaraez aw that’s such a cute tradition! I’d do that since it’s the tradition even if people could quickly guess it was you Though I do like the Big Brother t shirt idea too!
I bought children’s books for my family members. One for my parents. One for each sibling. (Not sure if they’re going to be together or separate. They’re like herding cats). I was planning to write “for you to read to me February 2020” with a picture of the sono. My family is a bunch of book nerds who are all about the bedtime story.
H is killing meeeee. One of his friends loves all things babies and isnt having anymore anytime soon with his gf. My BIL was like "I want to be there when you tell him! (Both friend and BIL live in GA btw...) So I cant post anything on social media until BIL goes over to Friend's house next weekend probably....I wanted to post something after our 12 week appointment tomorrow! But i guess on the bright side, gives me a little more time to perfect the flat lay lol
@huskervbfan sorry I missed your reply!! I bet Nebraska would be beautiful. My favorite DZ is my home one, Skydive Carolina, in large part because they’re very organized, professional, and safety-focused, so that assuages my husband/family’s concerns about the sport, which means it’s less stressful for everyone (especially me lol).
Views-wise, I loved Skydive Hawaii on the Northshore of Oahu—you jump out of the plane over the water and it’s just this rush of sapphire. Then after a few seconds of total awe, you look up and see this rocky volcanic mountain range and miles of lush green sugar cane fields. It’s just breathtaking. I didn’t love the physical experience, though, because the winds just rip through you the whole time. I was spinning like crazy under the canopy, some people were straight up flipping, and a guy who jumped right before me had to do a cutaway and landed like half a mile from the DZ. Apparently they add like an extra 10-20 jumps to their required A license course jumps out there just because landing is so difficult.
My first ever jump was over Cairns, Australia, and I could see the Great Barrier Reef through the water from the air—maybe it’s endured as a favorite because it was my first, but I go back there in my head every time I need to escape whatever is going on haha.
Anyway, on topic again, we finally announced and went with our original announcement—Rome, Trevi Fountain coin toss. The outpouring of love has been remarkable. None of this had felt all that real, and H and I both got this imposter syndrome feeling when we hit Post haha. But now that it’s out, we just can’t wait for our boy to arrive!

@shounshe great pic! Your dog is hilarious! I have an English bulldog too. He hates the heat - I have to force him outside to go potty every day, then he runs back into the AC to plop himself back down on his bed 🙄
We took a trip to Ireland in early July. We knew we were pregnant, so we took the opportunity to take an announcement picture. We waited until the end of July and posted "There was more than two of us on this trip!"

edit: typo!

PS: Key West is one of my bucket list drop zones. Was it crazy gorgeous?
