September 2019 Moms

Re: UO/FFFC 6/7

  • UO: I don’t like fried foods.

FFC: As long as I get my work done pretty quickly (and I think that’ll happen) I’m leaving early to go to the craft store and buy fabric.
  • FFFC: Mine is super tame to start. I sit on a board and told them I had to call in to our meeting at 7:30 AM because a repairman is coming. This is kind of true, but DH is home to let him him in. I just really didn't want to get ready and drive into town on my day off.

UO: This is a changed UO. I use to think pregnant ladies who are always touching their stomachs were so annoying, but no I totally get it. It's like a magnet and my hands just naturally rest there. I also find it comforting to rub my belly. I'm totally that lady.
  • Loading the player...
  • @lillywonderland do it! And then show pictures. I'm a fabric junky. Is this for your car seat covers or something else?
  • @kgg2241 Yes - it’s for the car seat covers!! And maybe I’ll pick up something else if I see something that speaks to me. I will have to go back and get more fabric once my sister finds out the sex of their LO - they find out in a month!! I have this grand idea to make a baby quilt out of the bridesmaid dress I wore for their wedding.
  • @lillywonderland I love the baby quilt idea! I hope that works!
  • @lillywonderland Can you share more details on your car seat covers? I put a few on my registry but was thinking about your comment that yours are better because they cover more surface area... I could totally sew up a carseat cover! (Or can I? My level of skill is pillow cases)

@kgg2241 Umm you're allowed to make up whatever excuse you want when you're working on your day off. Also, totally agree about stomach touching. Although I'm touching mostly when he's kicking because I think it feels cool.

My UO is more of a statement, but I am SOOOOOO glad our BMB is drama free. There are no pushy personalities and everyone is respectful of everyone else's thoughts and ideas. It's a really warm and welcoming environment.

I have another. UO - I'm binge watching Sex and the City, and I'm 100% grossed out by how much SJP's character smokes. I realize this series is almost 20 years old now but sheesh. I feel like I'm covered in cigarette smoke after every episode!

FFC - like Lilly, I showed up at work for our scrum meeting so I can be "seen in the office" and completely plan to leave at noon. However, unlike Lilly... I have nothing productive planned for my afternoon.  :D I may go grab paint swatches to try and narrow down paint color for baby's room.

Another FFC - my sweet as pie granny is SO excited for the baby's arrival she's been shopping like crazy for him. I am SO grateful for this, however, she's shopping at second hand stores and is bringing me stuff that doesn't work. For instance, she brought me a swing that appears to be in great condition except the motor is broken and doesn't actually swing. So now I have a big broken swing in my dining room that I can't in good faith give to anyone else because it's broken. So now I guess I just toss it? Put it on the curb with a free sign?

lol I guess I've been savings all of these for a while now.

  • @nomangos23 Totally agreed. I love that there are no overwhelming or over dominant personalities. We've got a great group! And lol at your granny. Will she remember she got it for you and go looking for it when she is over? Otherwise, I'd say toss it. Also for real on the smoking. I've actually noticed a lot of people (like 20's and 30's age) smoking lately. Um... it's 2019 people. We know how bad it is for you and it definitely doesn't make you look cool.
  • This is probably both FFFC and UO: I like weird food combos, like beef tacos with Italian dressing, white pizza with honey, and plain hamburgers with applesauce (whether I'm KU or not)
  • @cammie0526, how did these weird combos even come up to try them?!?!
    Pregnancy Ticker
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @lillywonderland upload pics of your finished product! That quilt idea is so cute!

@kgg2241ugh work meetings on days off should be illegal! My old job had Monday meetings at 8am every week and go figure my day off was Monday. It was torture.

@nomangos23 I cringed reading your post. My MIL was/is the same way. Last time I was pregnant she got us an exersaucer that had mildew all over it 🤮. I’m so non confrontational that I just smiled on the outside and died on the inside.

@cammie0526 those are some odd combos! Italian on tacos I could probably get behind though!

FFFC: I’m picky about clothes and sooo many people are giving me hand me downs I just cant bring myself to use. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with second hand, but can they at least not have stains and stupid saying?! My SIL has baby girl clothes from her 14 yo cousin that she is planning on giving me. I can only imagine what 14yo baby clothes will look like.

  • @duewithpu2 I am the same with baby clothes. I am definitely okay with second hand, but please no weird sayings, extravagant bows and glitter, or tutus. Also, yes to being clean. I feel bad, but I think I made it overly clear to my family that I won't put her in that type of stuff. That is their style to a t though. Also, 14 years seems like a reallllly long time to save baby clothes. Guess I'm not that sentimental.

@cammie0526 no judging here, just super curious to the answer to sunshine's question!
  • @duewithpu2 I would say try to salvage a dress or two for the next time you see their side of the family and toss the rest. And yeah, don't get me wrong, I love a good second hand score but please don't send me something that will make my family sick. Ol granny started to say they had a lot of car seats and I literally said out loud "hard no. we can afford a new one" She was a little taken aback but whatever. It just came out so naturally.

@cammie0526 Yes I have to know, please.

@kgg2241 No, she'll never remember. I could walk her through the house and tell her how much we love a 100% completely different swing and she'd have no idea she didn't give it to us. So I guess that's safe!
  • @nomangos23 my MIL is currently texting me about an $80 travel system at a yard sale she’s at. I’m like how many different ways can I say no before she gets that I’m not ok with buying a used car seat not to mention we don’t need the stroller.
  • UO: I am tired of parties. Of all kinds. Summer is terrible for our families. Everyone except my BIL and I are born in June/July/August. I literally have a birthday, holiday, or graduation engagement (plus our shower!) almost every weekend between now and the end of July. I begged MH to skip out on his cousin's college graduation party this weekend because we were just at the house last weekend for a birthday party and saw everyone. When I brought it up he was like "what, do you not like my family?" No. I am just so tired and it's hot and we have so much to do around the house before it gets unbearable outside and I'm too big to function.
  • @cammie0526 lol wut. I too need to know how you figured out you like those combos!
@cmdesigner I hear you. Summer is always a busy time for us too. Our weekends are already booked up through mid August.
@duewithpu2 @kgg2241 I’m weird about hand me downs as well. I’ll get into more detail when we go private, but there’s been some family drama with secondhand clothes already.
@nomangos23 agreed that the lack of drama is nice. I do like to lurk other boards in search of drama though.
@lillywonderland are we talking deep fried only or does that include pan fried?
  • Italian dressing on tacos: I didn't like ranch dressing at all as a kid, so anytime we had taco salads for dinner I'd eat mine with italian instead. Just naturally progressed to putting it on actual tacos from there.

White pizza & honey: This one isn't all that weird (supposedly). I first had it when I was in Rome back in college, and a restaurant near my office also has it on their menu.

Hamburger with applesauce: IDK guys. I was a weird kid. My best guess is that my parents gave me cut up hamburger and applesauce on the same plate when I was little and somehow it got mixed up on my fork and it tasted good! It's the salty/sweet taste that I like... I suppose it's not too drastically different from hamburger with ketchup or pineapple?
  • @lillywonderland I like fried food just fine (especially fish and chips with fresh fish; and donuts), but not enough to deep fry anything at home so it's pretty rare I eat it.
@cammie0526 I like cottage cheese with potato chips (as a dip) - my mom would eat it when I was a kid. DH has always refused to even try it. The weirdest part is I don't like cottage cheese much in any other context.
@duewithpu2 ugh, why do people hand on clothes with stains?! I culled all that from DS's clothes - this baby shouldn't have to wear something her brother pooped/spit up on! She'll be making plenty of stains of her own.
I don't know if this is a FFC or a UO or just a ramble, but when I was a kid and into my twenties all (100%) of my clothes were secondhand, but now I don't have the patience to go to the stores and look for the good stuff because there's so much terrible stuff there and I don't find clothes shopping fun at all. I thought I would start again with kids, but haven't. It doesn't help that DH hates shopping more than I do, and because I always stick to a strict budget with baby clothes he's convinced once gas and time are figured in it's as cheap to get stuff new online. Little kid clothes seem a bit pricier new, so maybe DS graduating to those that will push me to get started again.
  • @themadcamel so the items came, but Amazon thought they were lost? That sounds like some divine intervention stuff lol. And FTR, I think teachers are severely underpaid, so get that free money, girl!

@cammie0526 I think I could get on board with the tacos and pizza, but the burger with applesauce is a bit odd. I'll usually try anything once though! I like some weird combos too. One of my favorite breakfasts was a ham, cheese and onion omelette with maple syrup on top. And I love a grilled turkey and swiss sandwich dipped in cottage cheese.

I guess my UO is that I do NOT think fruit belongs in cottage cheese. Ew.

My FFFC is that my morning sickness is back (WTF) and I have no desire to do any work today, so I am currently watching House Hunters and sorting DS' clothes to hand down to a friend of mine that is having a boy this month!

  • @ternsetc I'm actually finding promising second hand stuff for babies/kids on facebook marketplace and NextDoor. They usually sell in lots or bundles. You can easily tell if it's your style or not because they usually post a ton of pictures. I have 0 patience for second hand stores and even stores like Ross or TJ Maxx.
  • @themadcamel Deep fried. As in deep fried Oreos sound like vomit to me and I like my baked chicken nuggets/strips better than frying them. Also I don’t like donuts. Call me a rabbit, but I prefer salads instead. Also, most salad dressings are nasty. I eat most of my salads dry.

@cammie0526 I don’t use a dressing when I make taco salads. I feel like it has enough flavor on its own. We have a pizza place out here that you would prolly like since they do weird things with some of them - my favorite pizza has mashed potatoes on it! 😜

Also, the applesauce and hamburger doesn’t sound that weird to me.

  • @themadcamel I agree with @zuuls_mom, it was meant to be. Girl treat yo self.

@zuuls_mom I’m going to take it a step further and say the ONLY place cottage cheese belongs is in the trash!

@ternsetc I never buy kids clothes unless they’re on sale. Old Navy has tons of good deals. I just got $1 long sleeve onesies for the baby and $3 T-shirt’s for DS  and Carters sleepers get as low as $6 which I think is a good deal. I’m with @nomangos23 I have no patience for thrift stores. I do however love myself some TJ Maxx.
  • @cammie0526 I would eat applesauce with anything... literally I put it out on the table as a side even if we're eating pasta/red sauce. My husband thinks its appalling, but its how I grew up (its how my Dad grew up, so it was passed on to us) its apparently a German thing ? Idk, but I know that my 3 year old got a taste of applesauce with her spaghetti & meatballs at my parents house a few months ago and now she requests it anytime we have that at home... and I secretly love it while my husband cringes!

  • @lillywonderland I ate dry salads for the majority of my life! To this day I only like Italian or Cesar dressing.

UO: Ranch dressing is horrible. Even the smell makes me gag.
  • @duewithpu2 and I:

Also, yes to hating all salad dressings except for Italian and Caesar. (And I like raspberry vinaigrette, too).

When I go to In-N-Out I ask for my burger WITHOUT the sauce. Because thousand island dressing is legitimately the NASTIEST.
  • @lillywonderland I still love you, but dang! That sauce at In n Out is my JAM. I can get down on some animal style fries. Makes me sad we don't have any of them in CO yet....

  • Woohoo, I’m not alone on the weird food combo train! All of your combos are cracking me up, and most actually sound pretty good  :)
  • @zuuls_mom yep, items came but Amazon thought they were lost. This has happened to me before. I called them and they basically said oh well it’s your lucky day. And I 100% agree with you on cottage cheese and fruit.

@lillywonderland deep fried Oreos or candy or butter shoulda nasty AF, but I love French fries. I can’t get behind dry salad though!

@mamaber2204 I get overwhelmed when there are too many posts too! I do eventually read them all but there's just too many comments to comment back to and by that point I feel too late to the conversation anyways.

@cmdesigner I second you on the parties. I did post a few weeks (or was it days? No idea..) ago re toddler bdays. We have another one this weekend. We are flipping a coin lol. Neither of us really want to take ds1.

my fffc: sometimes I pretend to be on a work call when I don’t want to talk to the neighbors. I am an introvert and socializing is paralyzing.

I feel like my confessions are so lame 🙄.

@themadcamel I don’t think amazon is hurting !!!! Ps they straight sent me the wrong item and I am too busy to deal so I just re-ordered. Im glad someone is benefiting! Stupid amazon.

@zuuls_mom @RedBreast35 I am with you! Although today I actually did some work so I am a bit behind.
