I’m brand new to the board and looking forward to participating in the support and encouragement I’ve seen on this board so far.
My DH and I tried to start our family off and on for 5 years before seeking help. We started our testing process in October and eventually discovered that DH has a condition called CBAVD, which means he was born without his vas deferens. This means IVF is our only shot if having our own children.
We had our first ER in April, and got 2 PGS normal embryos from it. Our first FET was today (fx)!
Welcome! Sorry to hear that you've been on such a long journey, but wishing you all the best for your FET today! You should come join the June FET discussion thread

My husband and I had a similarly lengthy journey -- we didn't see a specialist until over 3 years TTC and after that it was another 2+ years to our first IVF cycle. I hope you have some comfort in knowing a diagnosis and having a plan to move forward. For us, our dx was officially unexplained (but likely poor quality eggs/sperm) and IVF was our answer. It's a draining process to be sure, but you'll find alot of support here and that will make all the difference.

@ktstephans welcome! My husband has the same diagnosis. We were "luckily" in the sense that he knew about before we were together as he he as cystic fibrosis and 97% of men with the disease have this condition. Is your husband a CF carrier? I know just having the gene can sometimes cause the vas deferens not to develope. Best of luck on your FET! Let us know how it goes!

Me: 27/ DH: 29
Dx: obstructive azoospermia
IVF#1: October 2015
10/7/2015: ER 11 retrieved, 8 mature, 7 fertilized w/ ICSI
10/12/2015: Transferred 5AA and 4AA blasts, froze one 4AA and 4BB
Thanks, @caitiemae! You’re the first person I’ve ‘met’ with the same diagnosis.
My DH is actually in the 10% of those with CBAVD that has the condition not because of CF but from renal agenesis. Essentially, for some unexplained reason, his left kidney never developed; the development of the kidneys and vas deferens are closely linked. We didn’t even know he was missing a kidney until this whole process. We did have quite the adventure finding this out, though: urologist appointments, renal ultrasound, seeing a genetic counselor and having a complete work up.
However, we’re just so grateful to have a diagnosis and an option with IVF + TESES. 20 years ago we would have had 0 options.
Wishing you and your DH all the best in your journey 😊
@ktstephans wow! What a journey that must have been! I can't imagine what it's like to find out you're missing a kidney! Glad to hear everything worked out with your IVF and TESE. Hope you receive some good news next week!
