Rants/Raves?:

Any specific AMA concerns?

Re: AMA Check-in - June

  • Due date/W+D: 1-8-20 / 8+6

    Age? 37

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM

Any appointments? Questions?: Second appointment scheduled on 6/28 for my 12 week ultrasound and genetic testing.

Rants/Raves?: Two rants currently: 1. I am so nauseous all day every day I can't stand myself. I'm so ready for this part to be over! 2. I'm already in maternity clothes! I cant' believe it. I'm going to be a huge beast by the time I deliver!

Any specific AMA concerns? Just the genetic testing. I'm worried about what we might find (not that I'm expecting anything to pop up). And I feel like I'm alone in my pregnancy at my age. I know I'm not but that's how I feel right now.

    EDD 1/22, 6w5d
I’ll be 41 in a couple of weeks
STM if this goes to term
    First u/s on 6/12
    Rant: the relentless unbearable nausea
Concerns: I’ve had 3 mmc’s because of chromosomal issues due to my age and diminished ovarian reserve. The RE said I’ll probably continue to miscarry. So the idea that this may not end with a baby makes the nausea that much harder to bear.

    @foodislife you’re not alone. In fact, I think you’re young. 😉

9/5/18 Diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve (4-5 follicles, one ovary had none and was very atrophied)

RE says the low egg count is likely causing my recurrent pregnancy loss. Less eggs results in more aneuploidy.

  • EDD- ? Don’t really know 1/22? I haven’t had any appointments yet and I wasn’t really tracking.

    Im 39

STM (I have RPL so we are cautious)

I don’t even have a first appointment scheduled until 11 weeks because we are going on vacation.

Rave-no nausea yet which is great because I was sick almost my entire pregnancy. But, that’s also a little nerve wracking.  I’ve had two miscarriages and one ectopic. I’m crossing my fingers so hard.

  • Due date/W+D: Jan 20th or so/7w

    Age? 40

FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: 4thTM if this baby comes home

Any appointments? Questions?:  My first appt isn't until July 2nd.   I have never waited that long for an ultrasound before.  I have had a miscarriage (blighted ovum), so I have a hard time knowing if something is growing in there or not.   I have had tiny occurances of spotting, but nothing bad enough to cause concern.  I am just waiting, not very patiently.

    Rants/Raves?: None

Any specific AMA concerns?  I read somewhere that these days they are making AMA patients deliver early.   I am hoping that was just a weird article and not reality.  I always go overdue.

  • @MollySm I delivered 2 weeks late at 38!

  • @MollySm I delivered a week late at 38. There was a dr at my practice that started suggesting I induce at 39 weeks but I said no. The baby was moving less, but she was big and it gets crowded in there.

  • @carrieanddr Thanks  I know I'm not alone it's just a much different feeling than the last time.
  • EDD 1/6
    STM
Next appointment is the 12 week c/u, followed shortly by the NT scan. Probably Panorama draw somewhere before that. I need to call.
AMA concerns: I’m so nervous for the Panorama. With my first I declined all the NIPT stuff but I know that now with my age it’s responsible to do the test so if baby needs extra care we’ll be prepared. Early sex determination is a small bright spot but I still wish I could skip it.

@MollySm my midwife said I can still go to 41-42 weeks. I’m barely AMA (currently 34, 35 at birth) so not sure if that changes things. My first was 41+1 and it was ROUGH but I’m glad they let me wait for labor.
  • @foodislife you're definitely not alone! But I know it's easy to feel that way.

@carrieandr I'm sorry you're dealing with nausea and PGAL brain. FX so hard that this is your rainbow and the nausea is all worth it!

@justsuzie FX you're just having a lucky, sick-free pregnancy! I'm so jealous you're going to Disneyland. I haven't been in years!

@MollySm sorry you have to wait so long for your appt. Are you using the same OB as your other pregnancies?

@Xstatic3333 I feel you on the NIPT testing. I know it's required at my age and it's the responsible thing to do, but it makes me nervous!

    Due date/W+D: Jan 20, 2020/7weeks3days

    Age? 36 on Saturday

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: FTM

Any appointments? Questions?: tomorrow is my intake and I have an US on Friday. Yay!

Rants/Raves?: I keep learning about all the things you can't do while pregnant and it's getting really annoying. I had a splitting headache last night and before taking my go to ibuprofen, checked if I could and nope, I can't! I took tylenol but I swear it's not as effective as NSAIDS. Still a bit head achy this morning.

Any specific AMA concerns? Just nervous about the testing. Just the fact that they're like "you're old so we gotta make sure your baby doesn't have abnormalities" makes me want to puke a little. I'm not expecting anything bad but, the idea that the possibility is there is a little scary. Looking forward to finding out the sex though!

  • Due date: 1/17/2020

    Age? 37

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: first time mom

    Any appointments? Questions?:

my first appointment with my OB isn't until July 8th (I'll be almost 13 weeks). Is that normal? It seems like an awfully long wait to see a doctor. My US and genetic testing appt is July 9th.

    Rants/Raves/AMA concerns?:

Are other ladies constantly worrying too? This is my first pregnancy, but it took us a year to conceive given my PCOS. It was heartbreaking to fail round after round of fertility treatments. Now I'm finally pregnant, and I should be happy but the fear of miscarriage is always there. Is this baby healthy? Will we be able to conceive again? I swear, I'd never felt "old" in my life until we started trying to get pregnant. I read the term Geriatric Pregnancy and almost did a spit take when I realized it applied to me! It doesn't help that I have a clotting disorder that raises my risk level and requires me to take daily blood thinning shots.

  • @Xstatic3333 and @peppyj9 I was in an AMA group for my first pregnancy and out of about 15 of us, only one opted not to have the NIPT test done. Sadly her baby ended up having a Trisomy and died at 4 months old after a lot of surgery and hospital stays. It’s scary, but I definitely think it’s better to know early.

@noranorabobora First u/s’s are 8-13 weeks. Most do 8. I tried to push mine until 9 or 10 weeks because my last pregnancy had a good u/s at 7.5 weeks and a bad one at 10.5. I want to wait until things are more certain. But the dr insisted on 8 weeks because of my recurrent pregnancy loss. Even if I have a good u/s on Wednesday, I won’t be able to trust it. If I were you, though, I’d ask if I could get an u/s at 9 weeks or so to calm your fears.

  • @peppyj9 BUT, because we are old ladies it's covered by insurance. And, you can find out sex sooner. Silver linings :)

  • @carrieandr wow, that is so sad. 😔 Definitely better to know early to be better prepared, but either way, heartbreaking.

@justsuzie always love silver linings! 😊 I didn't realize it's only covered by insurance if you're older. Definitely a perk 😉
  • @carrieandr how heartbreaking! Yes, definitely better to know and prepare. I’m hoping my draw will be next week (I’m 10 weeks Monday) and I’ll get peace of mind soon. Also hoping the fact that I’m not 35 yet won’t cause an insurance battle, but I’ve met my unauthorized deductible this year on some other non-PG stuff so hopefully it’s somewhat covered either way.
  • Due date/W+D: January 27th I think? I'll be 7vweeks on Monday.

    Age? 35

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM

Any appointments? Questions?: First appointment for a viability scan on Monday!

Rants/Raves?: I keep asking myself, did I feel this terrible with our first? Today I managed to drag myself out for breakfast and to go to Trader Joe's with my husband and daughter, after which I took a 2 hour nap. Then I got up, took a shower, ate some lunch,  threw up the lunch, and am exhausted again. I'm a teacher and so thankful I'm not in school right now...

    Any specific AMA concerns?

I'm just interested to see what, if anything is different since my first go round!

  • @peppyj9 Yeah, the list of dont do/eat/take this during pregnancy can be annoying. I'm waiting until my appointment on Monday to see what to do about my prescription allergy spray...
  • @spedteach2013 I’m a teacher too and the 6th graders smell so bad this time of year I’m gagging all day long.
  • Due date/W+D: January 19 or 20th/ 7 weeks 6 days

    Age? 39

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM

Any appointments? Questions?:  Second scan this Friday and I am nervously waiting.  I don't have a lot of symptoms when I am pregnant, so not much reassurance happening day to day for me.

    Rants/Raves?:

Any specific AMA concerns?  Besides turning 40 soon, I dealt with infertility and went through 8 rounds of IVF and only have one living child. Lost my son at 17 weeks 2.5 years ago and no cause was found. I have a congenital heart defect that my daughter had as well. And finally I had polyhydramnios with her and went into preterm labor several times as a result. I think that’s enough!

  • @justsuzie The way my 4th graders smelled by the end of the year I would have died!
  • Due date/W+D:  Jan 26, 7w4d

Age? Just turned 42, egads, I'm old

FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: TTM if this one sticks. I have a 23yo an 7yo.

Any appointments? Questions?: First OB appt 6/17.

Rants/Raves?:  I have PGAL brain like I didn't think was possible, and my partner (41) is completely fixated on chromosonal abnormalities to the point I'm about to send him to his mom for the next 32 weeks. You're not helping, sweetie!

Any specific AMA concerns? Miscarrying again. At 41, I didn't think I could get pregnant without trying, but when I did, I wasn't prepared for the increased risk of loss...on my 42nd birthday, I accepted I'd never get pregnant again... And here I am... For now, at least.

  • @Xstatic3333, I was 34 when I became pregnant with my son. The insurance went by my delivery age for all my appointments and screenings, which was 35.
  • Due date/W+D: 1/22/19; 8w1d according to lmp

    Age? 42, 43 in a month

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: ftm

Any appointments? Questions?: first scan was 6/11, measuring 7w1d. But I ovulate later like 16 or 17. Dr had zero concerns, said everything looks great. Next appt July 9, scan and full gyn visit, but also that NIPT testing we are considering. Just makes me nervous.

Rants/Raves?:  I wish I could get more rest. My job is ridiculously demanding and I almost want to tell people so they will leave me alone. No joke my temper and patience are short these days, these 'kids' need to be responsible humans.

Any specific AMA concerns? Not really, my mom actually had me at the same age, but I was her 5th so she was no stranger to this. I kind of want my newly married niece to fall pregnant here soon so we can share some of this and have our kids close, as all my nieces and nephews are all well over 21!!

    Due date/W+D: January 8th 10 weeks 3 days

    Age? 40

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: TTM

Any appointments? Questions?: June 26th NIPT

Rants/Raves?: MORNING sickness 🤢 And I work a pretty high level job and being sick has been rough.

Any specific AMA concerns? With my first two I was 29 and 32 so I didn’t get any genetic testing. So it has me really nervous and I won’t relax until I get the results

  • This is the first time I've checked in here because I wasn't sure if I qualified, but sine my dr keeps saying it, I guess I do.

    Due date/W+D: 1/6 11w1d

    Age? 34 -->35 in Oct

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: 4th time mom

Any appointments? Questions?: Had appt yesterday.  Heartbeat was good!

    Rants/Raves?: none now

Any specific AMA concerns?  I opted out of testing, but I just keep second guessing myself.  I never did with my first 3 and I really don't feel a reason to be concerned, but my dr just scared me yesterday with it.  Don't you have to have it done by 12 weeks?  Talk to me ladies, help me out.  My husband says the same thing he always says that it wouldn't change anything and I agree, but maybe we could be more prepared???  I don't know.  HELP!

  • @lindseyjane03 I'm your same age and like you, didn't do it last time but I decided to this time. It's not too late; my draw is at 12+5 and my doctor said any time before 14 weeks. NIPT has a far lower false positive rate than the options available when you're younger, so that's a big factor. I figure if baby was going to have DS, the most likely outcome other than "all is well," we'd have time to tour the NICU, research and interview potential doctors, learn from the online community, get to a larger city to deliver if needed, etc., etc. It's not wrong to decline but that's why I decided to do it even though I'm so nervous and would rather not. Good luck with your choice!
  • @lindseyjane03 Even if it wouldn’t change anything, information is helpful! Like you said, it’s a matter of being prepared. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t do it, but I tend to prefer having as much info as possible. I think my blood draw won’t be until 12w6d, so you are good on time.

Due date/W+D: Jan 15/11 weeks on the dot

    Age? Just turned 37 yesterday!

    FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM

Any appointments? Questions?: Next appointment is July 10, which I’m assuming is when I’ll get blood drawn for NIPT.

Rants/Raves?: My work has a summer shutdown over week of July 4, which is terrific, but the couple weeks leading up to it have been hell because everyone is trying to get 10,000 things done before the break.

Any specific AMA concerns? Oh, just anxious about the NIPT. Then again, I was AMA (by just over 3 months, but still) for my first pregnancy, so this isn’t anything new.
