backstory- every day at drop off, there is a 5-6 year old who goes to everyone who will listen “her belly is getting bigger! She’s having a baby!” while looking right at me.
I finally got fed up today** and told her that’s not nice to say, that it’s not nice to point out that someone is pregnant.
Yes, I should have elaborated as to the *why* (because what if I wasn’t? What if I was someone who just carried weight in the belly? Or what if I was 2-3 months PP but unable to drop the belly weight?), but I was just so fed up with no one telling her it’s not nice to comment on people’s body sizes and shapes.
Flame away.
**not only do I physically struggle with being pregnant, the weight gain and size changes is a mental challenge as well that I always struggle dealing with, so I’m particularly sensitive to comments on it
@cmbt2 I'm constantly telling my kids that it's not nice to make those comments. I think if no one else is correcting her, your fine in doing it. Especially because you are bothered by it and because it may have a bigger impact coming from the person who is hurt then by a teacher or parent.
My confession is that I can't remeber the last time I took my prenatals in full dose. I have to split them up through the day or I feel sick. I was religious with DS. Sorry #2 🤷♀️
@cmbt2 I also think it is totally fine for you to say something. But I do think it should be delivered with context when dealing children of any age, and especially that young. I understand why you got tired and spoke up, I just think I would have added the explanation (as you acknowledged) for the kiddo.

I realized that after I left. Only excuse is it wasn’t even 7:15 yet, and I was trying to wrangle my own kids
Confession: it's supposed to storm this afternoon, and my dog has recently become terrified of thunder. The thought of her being home alone and scared is breaking my heart, so I'm considering leaving work at noon so I can be home with her during the storms.

I’m so thankful that ours don’t get bothered by storms!! Sorry that yours is becoming scared of storms. I have a friend that has CBD dog treats and they worked wonders on her pup. *I am a little hippie-dippy but not full blown “omg, CBD is the best thing ever”. I was just shocked at how well it worked for my friends dog.*
@emily1052, interesting! I could be convinced to try those for her, because it's so heartbreaking to see her scared. She is 5 years old and was never scared of storms until last year. A lightning strike hit directly behind our house, and the whole house lit up with bright light and everything shook with the loudest thunder I've ever experienced. I screamed in surprise, and dropped the plate of food I was holding, which I'm sure didn't help LOL. But ever since that one time, she's been terrified of all thunder. ☹ We tried prescription "doggie downers" recently but they made her SO loopy that I feared she would accidentally hurt herself. She acted like she was drunk and walked into walls, tripped on the stairs, and face planted on the floor several times. It was worse than her just being scared! I'm going to try half a pill this weekend and see how that goes, but I will keep the CBD oil treats in mind!
@galentine You can also try Benadryl for your pup. My dog isn't really bothered by storms, but he has anxiety issues. He's on prescription meds for it, but before we went that route, Benadryl was really helpful. It's perfectly safe. I usually go just below the recommended dosage for him because I hate seeing him lethargic, but the vet said it's safe even if we went just a little over the recommended dosage.
You can go generic too (we use an off-brand sleep aid that has 100 pills for the same price as a small box of Benadryl), just make sure there are no other active ingredients.
Also try a licking treat, like dog peanut butter (regular peanut butter has a lot of calories for dogs). Licking is calming.
We've learned a lot from the veterinary behaviorist we have to see for our boy, so I figured I should share some of the crazy expensive knowledge we've gained. 😄
@meagan-t, thank you for the tips! I totally forgot about Benadryl. We used it at the vet's suggestion for car sickness when she was a puppy. And the Kong with peanut butter is a great idea. She gets one every day in her kennel and loves them. I should freeze a couple for when the storms get bad this weekend. Thank you!!
Follow up to my confession: I originally had a doctor's appointment scheduled for this afternoon, but it was cancelled and rescheduled. I was looking at my outlook calendar just now and realized I never removed my time off for Friday afternoon..... so I will definitely be leaving at noon for my "doctor's appointment" and getting a headstart on the holiday weekend.

Thatta girl! I just looked at my calendar and realized I only had two conference calls after 12pm. So of course I moved them to next week and am also getting a head start on the weekend!
