Metformin for IVF

HI, just wondering if anyone has any advice on when to take metformin for IVF. I was taking it with dinner but feeling REALLY awful in the AM. Anyone feel better taking it with a different meal?

Re: Metformin for IVF

  • I have to take mine twice a day. I take them kind of in between meals. At 10am usually after breakfast and with a drink and at around 10pm. I find that helps. Also limiting carbs helped me. I was on straight metformin but I got horribly sick. So I was switched to Dabex XR metformin which is a slow release metformin.

  • I took an extended release metformin and that never gave me any GI issues. I think I took mine twice a day, 500 mg each. It’s been almost two years since I’ve taken it so I don’t remember in detail. I read somewhere that who manufacturers the drug may affect your symptoms too. I get a generic one from Walgreens and it worked wonderfully. I’m pre-diabetic and the drug stabilized my blood glucose readings so the lack of symptoms wasn’t due to the fact that the drug wasn’t working... Did you also slowly ramp up the dose?
