We have just finished introducing all of the stage 1 foods and I am ready to start the stage 2 foods. I noticed at the grocery store that a lot of the stage 2 foods are combinations that include orange, pineapple, blueberry or strawberry. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you are supposed to wait to introduce berries and citrus (berries due to allergy concerns and citrus b/c it's hard on the tummy), but I can't find anywhere that tells me when it's okay to introduce these.
Anyone know when it's safe to introduce berries and citrus? TIA!
Re: When to intro berries & citrus?
i'm curious too...i picked up some, but i'm nervous.
Our Pedi said to wait until 1yr. She said the purees weren't as much of a concern b/c they weren't as close to nature if you were buying produce at the store. We are waiting for 1yr.
I love your siggy pic, it is too cute!! GO DUCKS!!
That's what I'm thinking. I was really surprised to see stage 2 foods with berries and citrus in them.
I must have missed the boat. I have been giving Raegan pureed fruits for a couple months now. We rotate all foods so that she goes through an entire cycle (carrots, corn, peas, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, etc) and do the same thing with her meats and fruits. So she doesn't get the same meal except for maybe once a week.
I also alternate colors so she doesn't get that orange nose that is caused by too many orange foods too close together. Raegan's belly seems to do well.
A daily routine for Raegan is AM bottle, 4-5 ounces food an hour later, another bottle when she wants it, 2.5 ounces of a meat and 2 ounces veggie and if she is still hungry she gets a Gerber 1 size fruit. Depending on our schedule she may get dinner food (again 2.5 ounces of a meat and 2 ounces veggie) and then bottles the rest of the night. Bottles are spread throughout the day. We usually have a dirty diaper within an hour of her eating food
From what I have read the berries and citrus in the jarred baby food is fine. The citrus is juice not the actual fruit and I guess that is okay to use. Also the berries are cooked and that is supposed to get rid of some of the allergen components. Check out www.wholesomebabyfood.com there is a lot of great info on there. You can do a search for what you are looking for.
I make my own food and for that is says to wait until 12 months for citrus and berries with the exception of blueberries and cranberries which can be given around 8 months. I have bought some of the stage 2 foods that have citrus and berries and will give those after 8 months.
