@nomangos23 I am SO happy for you that all looks perfect with baby boy!! But for real, that was not cool! They should not have had a student doing your scan, much less an unsupervised one! It was very callous of them not to think about how that could make you feel if anything was unclear to them. I am so sorry you had to go through that.

@nomangos23 how great that everything looks perfect! I can’t imagine what you felt when she said that. I’m a sonographer and not an OB, but that kind of stuff should never be said without confirmation, even by an OB! Even if there was a cyst, a chorid plexus cyst is a perfectly normal finding at that fetal age and is usually just followed with another scan in 6-8 weeks. That being said, she probably had a weird angle if the MFM didn’t say anything about it I am so sorry they put you through that and you should definitely say something to the office.
@nomangos23 I am so happy that your babe looks perfect! But omg, what a horrible experience, I'm so sorry - I can't even imagine. I join the chorus who suggest saying something - that is so unprofessional to say what she did to you, she should hear that and hopefully will think about it and improve. I also agree that they should not have an unsupervised student doing your scan.
AFM, the scan this morning seemed to go well! The tech said she got all the pictures she needed, baby is still a girl, growth is on track for the due date, and the tech said if she'd noticed anything concerning she'd have gone to get her Radiologist to talk to us (which was more communicative than the tech was last time with DS). We hear from the OB in a couple days about the results so won't fully relax until then, but feeling positive!
@nomangos23 I'm so sorry! I can't believe she'd say that without confirmation. I got a crazy forthcoming tech but she seemed like she'd been doing them forever.
You guys are seriously the best. I think I am going to call and talk to the nurse (my favorite person ever) and just let her know. There's always room for improvement and I hope my feedback can help her become a better doctor.
Just finished my scan and waiting to see the Dr. Everything looks good. My placenta is lying low but I'm not too concerned about that right now. I'm pretty sure it'll move as I grow and if not we'll deal with it then. I'm so relieved and can't wait to cry happy tears in my car.
Ok, so I recommend not reading the full printout of the scan results. They gave it to me to give to the midwife so I decided to really look at it today. Now I'm over here obsessing over a head size that seems disproportionately small compared to everything else. Oops
Had my anatomy scan today and baby boy looks great except he is on the small side (say he looks about 5 days smaller than due date). They are having me come back in a month to check on growth but I think due date might just be off. I am trying not to worry. My first born was quite small at birth so I think we just make small babies. Hoping this baby hits a growth spurt between now and the next appt so I dont have to go through a bunch of extra checks along the way to delivery.
Yeah so bottom of the range for hc/actually ratio is 1.9 and baby was at 1.8. That doesn't seem like the great I got from the doctor. Any techs in here have any info?
@ready2go_phd That doesn't seem to far behind, especially with your history.
@ready2go_phd I wouldn't worry a whole lot. Having an additional growth scan later on might help. I had IUGR with DS and they caught it and were able to provide me excellent care.
Well I talked to midwife and she said the OB is very good at calling her if he has concerns so if he says all is good... I called his office and they confirmed they have no issue at all with the ratio amount... So I'll try to put images of having a stuck baby out of my mind
Heard from the OB this morning that the anatomy scan results look good!
Thinking of you guys with your scans today and Friday!
And I've been thinking of you @pennylane91, and hope things are OK - that you aren't still stuck waiting, and that you get good news. Sending good thoughts your way.
I've been meaning to update to this board, but we did finally get a call from the doctor and everything came back great from the genetic testing. The exact words were 'not at risk for...x,y,z'. Of course the scientist in me says show me the data but I feel so much relief.
Bright spots (eif) are pretty common- up to 5% of all pregnancies apparently. I just don't think my provider handled it very well bc when she mentioned the option of an amnio I assumed the worst and I was not ok with that suggestion. So, if any of you other momma's have a bright spot or choroid plexus, try not to worry too much! As a result of better ultrasound technology, these are becoming more common
Overall everything looks good! The only concern is the OB said I have what’s called Velamentous cord insertion which means it’s connected on the side instead of the middle. They’ll need to do more growth scans since it can result in slowed fetal growth. She also said it can make vaginal delivery more difficult. So I’m relieved the baby looks great, but will have that in the back of my mind for sure.

@ready2go_phd Sure! So how they discovered I had IUGR was through a few ultrasounds and measuring growth. If they measure below the 10th percentile, that means IUGR. So I had to see a maternal fetal medicine specialist in addition to my obgyn. I had to have no stress tests each week to make sure he was moving enough and biophysical profiles which were ultrasounds to measure fluid levels and blood flow. Basically it was just a ton of monitoring of him to make sure he wasnt in distress. In our case, a csection was recommended at 37 weeks and our son was born weighing 3.5 pounds. We spent 11 days in the hospital and we went home when he was just shy of 4 pounds.
I think this probably belongs in the NT/NIPT thread but I'm not completely sure, so I'll just post it here.
We got our second trimester screening results back (the ones
that check for neural tube defects). This was the one I was the most worried
about because of my family history.
**TW** history of birth defect and death
My mom’s first child was born with anencephaly. He lived for
7 days and then ended up dying from an infection. That put all of her other
children at a 25% chance of having a neural tube defect and I was the lucky one.
My Chiari malformation is a type of neural tube defect. I have an increased
risk of passing a neural tube defect onto my children and a 10% chance of
passing Chiari specifically on. That’s why I’m getting a level 2 AS.
The results came back negative, which is great! Not
completely in the clear, obviously still waiting for the AS but I’m pretty
happy. We have a 1 in 3000 chance of having open spina bifida, and 1 in 1,500
chance of an open neural tube defect. I just wish she gave me some reference
numbers. Like 1 in 1,500 is still only a 0.06% chance but is that the average
number or is it slightly above average?

TTC #1: 4/2017 Testing: HSG, U/S, BW, and DH's SA all normal DX: Unexplained 8/2018: Clomid + TI = BFN 9/2018: Clomid + TI + Progesterone = BFN 11/2018: Clomid + IUI + Progesterone = BFN 12/2018: Letrozole + IUI + Progesterone \\ Cancelled due to cyst 1/2019: Letrozole + IUI + Progesterone = BFP! \\ EDD Sept 30th, 2019 10/7/2019: Healthy baby boy!
We had our AS today! Everything went well--learned I have an anterior placenta which means I may feel slightly less movement, sadly, but I've been feeling quite a bit so far so I'm not concerned there. I also saw a contraction happen on the screen! Unfortunately they couldn't get a good view of the kidneys or spine since baby girl is laying transverse across my belly and her spine is towards my spine. DS has large kidneys and had very low amniotic fluid in utero (borderline oglio) which was diagnosed at the AS, so I had a loot of anxiety leading up to today. Luckily, his turned out to be nothing significant, thus far, and hopefully once we see hers in 4 weeks, they will be good!
@septoctkids oh yaaayyy! Awesome!! I just started feeling the movement this week and am still excited about it now, so I was initially a little bummed when she had said that. I still listen to the Doppler almost daily to check her heartbeat, so I love when the movements can give me that reassurance instead!
DH already got to feel movement from the outside once around 20 weeks. I had to wake him up in the middle of the night and it hasn't happened since but it will happen!
My baby has been measuring 4-5 days ahead. My doc said she wants the tech to redo the measurements at my next appointment. I guess it’s possible I ovulated up to 2 days earlier than I thought, but I was keeping pretty good track. Anyone have any insight or experience with this? I didn’t think much of it, and figured baby is just big, but wondering why doc wants to look again.
Aww, thanks @RedBreast35! Everything went well at the AS today - everything looks good (the Dr. will check it later to make sure) and baby girl was moving up a storm in there.
I’m shocked. I literally said “WHAT?!?!?” when the US tech said she was a she!!
@blitzybee Did you and you doctor agree on a due date from the beginning? At my first appt I told my doc the date I ovulated (CD20, which is typical for me). She pulled out her super accurate cardboard wheel and told me that they go by the LMP date unless the O date is 7+ days different. Mine is 6 days different... so she still insists each time I go that the baby is measuring ahead
Just got home from the AS. Baby is definitely a girl, and all looked well from what the doctor could initially see. The tech spent a long time trying to get a good view of the heart because baby kept putting her fists up and trying to curl into a ball. DH said, “I guess she’s a troublemaker just like her mom.” 🤷🏻♀️
@blitzybee My boy has been measuring "big" my entire pregnancy too and I know exactly when I O'd. Your doc may just want to keep an eye on it to determine if he's going to change your due date or not. If baby gets too big, delivery might be harder. And just an FYI, at some appointments he's 6-8 days "bigger" and some appointments he's 3-4 days "bigger". Babies go through growth spurts so your may have just had one
@lillywonderland whooo hooo for finally finding out the sex, and it being a girl, and it being a good AS!
@cammie0526 they have been going strictly off of my LMP for due date. I usually ovulate day 13/14, but it’s possible I ovulated day 12??? I actually had a hysteroscopy in December and was put on pelvic rest for a few days, so cycle day 12 was the first day we started trying for that cycle. That is SO annoying to know they are off by 6 days for you, and they won’t chance it!
@nomangos23 good to know your experience! Maybe she just wants an accurate due date? If that’s all it is, I’m good with that. My DS was 6 pounds, 15 ounces, so it’s kind of weird to think of a big baby! Totally a possibility tho 😊 My hubby was an itty bitty baby, but I wasn’t! Also good to know the days vary a bit. Seems that when it’s within 6 days, it shouldn’t be a big deal, right!?
@blitzybee Nope! 6 days is not a big deal at all! I don't think they move due dates until they're around two weeks out of line with your original due date, but that's what I've been told.
