Labor Playlist

I know it’s early but I’ve been thinking about the music I want playing while I labor. I’m well aware that just how I turn off the radio when I’m trying to find my way in the car that I’ll probably do the same thing if I’m annoyed by contractions, but I still want the option.

Anyone have ave any songs that they’re gonna play for soothing or just encouragement? I’m not sure if I’ll go inspiration gospel or heavy metal workout😂

Re: Labor Playlist

  • I feel like I downloaded some Enya or something, but I'm 98% sure it was never played. 😂
  • Loading the player...
  • The stuff that really calms me is the Beauty and the Beast (new one) soundtrack. I absolutely love the reorchestrations of the score.
The Avett Brothers will likely be in heavy rotation. They are my favorite band and their music is amazing.
Also, I'm planning on watching some Disney movies. I watched Ratatouille while I got my foot tattoo done and I was a trooper! It honestly didn't hurt too bad, but the movie was a welcome distraction.

  • I planned on having Harry Potter book on tapes in the background and we never ended up playing anything because I was too tired and stressed out.
  • My playlist never played. I spent hours putting it together but I wasn't in the mood for music any of my 3 labors.
  • No music here either... my inductions are way too long it would just be another reminder at how long its taking lol! We did watch a movie one night though.
  • We just had the TV on for most of the time. Never played any music at all for my labors. It was pretty boring for the most part at the hospital. Lots of sitting around, joking around with visitors, and just waiting for what was next. I also had an epidural though... so aware that is not always the norm.
  • FTM so no experience with it, but I do plan on bringing our bluetooth speaker for music. I hate silence and the TV is annoying so there will probably be music in my room the whole time. We'll likely just play whatever we find on spotify. Might be DH's metal, might be my chill playlists, whatever I'm feeling at the time, basically.
  • Instead of relaxing, I went motivating. Some showtunes that I love to sing. And 80’s anthems. Almost the same as a running playlist.

I also had a mellow one, just in case. Norah Jones and the like. But the first one went over better!
  • No suggestions, but @leylea89 I laughed when i read the part about turning the radio down in the car when looking for a place. I 100% do that! 😂

The TVs at the hospital actually had several music stations to pick from and I think the country one was one when my first son was born. It was on fairly low though, definitely just for background noise, because by the time I got to pushing I had no desire to talk or for anyone else to talk, but didn’t want silence either. With my second hgtv was on when he was born because he came super fast and that’s just what we had been watching at the time.

I made one with my first, but don’t even remember what was on it. I think it was mostly my favorite songs but that was over 6 years ago. My delivery was so fast by the time my husband brought my stuff up it was time to push.
  • @nolemama24 Exactly. I know like all of the women here said that it might not fit into the plan but I’m the type who likes to have options and plan for every mood.

This is my first so I have no idea what that means. I watched my sister labor and distractions were helpful for her, and I like music so it just feels logical.
  • I’ll def make one with old school soul, R&B, light music but with good messages. I need to set my mood.
  • Yes @MzFergie77 exactly. I might not play it in labor but once contractions start, gonna need something to first mellow me out then gear me up. I might be listening to classic jams and gospel for days before and let the music get more and more intense until we get to “let the bodies hit the floor!” Lol
  • During our practice meditations at my birth class, they played Jack Johnson and it was lovely and relaxing. I am putting my hubby in charge of this playlist. He was really excited about putting together something for the day!
  • My husband right when we were starting to push played Ain't that a kick in the Head by Dean Martin 😂 it made me laugh but I really didn't want any music at that time.
  • The only thing that really calms me down is heavy metal. If I go with anything I normally listen to the nurses and doctors are going to be in for a real treat.
  • @lattepanda whatever you gotta do, do you.
  • @lattepanda lol. Whatever floats your boat. I do love some mellow stuff but staff might think they walked into a hoe down because I love country music. I also kind of want to find a bunch of songs that can be twisted to be about giving birth. For instance, one thing a I picked so far is “Level Up” by Ciara because I’m going from level one to level two (of us) lol.

@leylea89 The Avett Brothers are my favorite band and they have this song that Scott wrote when he had his daughter. It's on the edge of country.

  • @hakele that’s cute. I have a soft playlist and a workout type playlist. I’ll put it on the soft one :) I like alternative, and grassroots too. Acoustics are always beautiful.
  • Mellow comforting tunes on a playlist on the Bluetooth speaker and hypnobirthing relaxation tracks on loop in my noise canceling headphones.
