How are you feeling?

Re: Week 4 Check-in w/o 2/18

  • EDD 4/26, 30+3

This afternoon I’m meeting with my OB for the first time since GD diagnosis. I have soooooooooo many questions for him.

Rant: I hate GD. It’s not fair. And I’d like to also be sleeping well. This pregnancy is quite a bit suckier than my last.

Rave: sun is shining today. My parents are visiting this weekend, and therefore DH and I will get a date night.

Feeling: tired, irritable, struggling with reflux, overwhelmed, anxious, weepy.

Baby prep: DH made moderate progress in DD’s room this weekend. Kinda.

GTKY: well, I was probably actually sleeping less a year ago. DD didn’t start sleeping well until after her first birthday. I was waiting for my first PP period, trying to decide when I wanted to start TTC again, still doing physical therapy for my horrible tearing from childbirth, but was more mentally at ease and my marriage was in a better place.

Any appointments? Questions? I had a sonogram and quick check-up today because my amniotic fluids were low at my 28 week appointment. I was so disappointed to find that they had dropped even lower  :/  I thought I was doing a good job with my water intake and all the Gatoraide, but apparently not well enough. I'm drinking straight out of a gallon jug now. One gallon a day and fingers crossed that will do the trick. On a good note, he looks great. He was moving and breathing just fine. The low fluids haven't stopped his somersaults.

Rave: We found a Pottery Barn changing table off of FB Marketplace for $35. It was in near perfect condition, just needed a couple spots sanded down. I was so excited until...

Rant: H tells me that he tried to stain it to match the crib and goofed. He went the lazy route and didn't sand it first and now we have a very sticky changing table that looks great, but has to be completely sanded down and re-stained. I know it's aggravating, but his overly grumpy attitude this morning when he realized his blunder had me wishing I was going to the OB on my own. He is not one to roll with the punches.

How are you feeling? BIG. The nurse mixed up the charts this morning and told me I was 11 weeks. I replied, "from delivery?!" lol How anyone could look at me and think that it was remotely possible I am only 11 weeks is hilarious.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? See changing table fiasco above. Also, we assembled the crib and I bought a small plant for his bookshelf.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? One year ago today we were struggling financially. H was working some odd jobs and we were just doing the best we could to get by. Things are infinitely better now.

Any appointments? Questions? Regular appointment with my OB tomorrow.  Fetal assessment appointment Wednesday.

Rants/Raves? Rant: sleeping part of the night in the bathtub and running cold water to help with the itching legs :(. Rave:  it's a holiday Monday here today and dh is actually home for the day too.  Took the dogs for a long walk in the snow- felt good to get outside and get some fresh air!

How are you feeling? Same old. Itchy. Otherwise alright.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? Put up some shelves in the nursery and organized some clothes.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago?  Aside from expecting, pretty much the same.  It was around this time last year when we first started talking about trying for a little one.  Looking back the year has flown by.  I'm sure the next few weeks will seem even quicker!

  • Due date: 4/28

Any appointments? Questions? Appointment on Thursday.  Pretty sure this guy is still breech and I getting concerned even if the doctors aren’t. If anyone has any idea to move him I’m interested

Rants/Raves? We just got back from Cali and I miss the warm 50 degree weather!  Haha.  Our 3 year old DS is officially in his bed all night!! Very difficult when you get very little sleep and share a bedroom.  I don’t know what we’ll do with the baby... but move a few months after he gets here

How are you feeling? Mostly good. I do feel huge and can’t imagine getting bigger

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? His clothes are all washed and put in the drawer. I adjusted the due date to get the completion discount at Target early. So I think we have everything possible

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago?  Gosh. We were still trying and getting  discouraged (TW- I had just had a loss in January at 7 weeks). I was almost done trying as I didn’t want to be 40 and pregnant. I think we stopped trying after this loss and I even went on bc. Then I forgot to take the bc pills with me on a month vacation and boom. Crazy stuff

  • Due date: April 22

Any appointments? Last Monday and last Saturday(growth ultrasound) and next Monday.

Questions? Baby measured fine, waiting on the info on the ultrasound otherwise, apparently everyone is taking today off at Kaiser

Rants/Raves? My back and pelvic nerves hurt. I can’t get a lot done in a day because if I go for walks or move around a lot I get way too strong of Braxton Hicks and ended up in L&D to check that I wasn’t in labor.

How are you feeling? Sore, barely getting real sleep  (20 m average of deep sleep, normal is 1.5 +)

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? Hubs is making dd a lofted bed and making progress.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago?

We were TTC for a nearly year at that point... um, I fell in a parking lot on this day one year ago, ended up in the e.r. Smashed my elbow, had rocks in it and abrasions and bruising and it was terrible, they said it wasn’t broken but I think there is either a rock in there still or a little piece of bone poking me regularly...

@cabearit  I’d suggest a chemical stripper, it will work faster and more  thoroughly than sanding. Just make sure you stay away and it’s in a well ventilated location.

  • Due date: 4/27

Any appointments? Questions?  Tomorrow morning and then 2 weeks from now.

Rants/Raves?  I took the next 2 days off to spend time with kids before this little one comes, so I’m excited about that!  Also just need a few things for the nursery and that’ll be done.

How are you feeling?  Heartburn is getting worse, back pain comes and goes, and I can’t get comfy to sleep.  So sounds about right where I should be for this pregnancy.  Lol.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week?   Almost done the nursery!  I need a rug and something for the wall.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago?  Besides not being pregnant it’s pretty much the same.

  • @cabearit Ugh, that's stressful! I had low fluid in 2nd tri and it took MONTHS to get back to normal. The specialist told me the baby also needs to help out by peeing as much as possible. FX your fluid intake gets baby motivated!

    Due date:  25 April

Any appointments? Questions?  OB on Friday. He supposedly spoke with the fetal specialist regarding my case, so I'm hoping to get a lot of answers regarding birth logistics and timing.

Rants/Raves?  Just basic African stuff, you know, like 40C/105F temps. Can't open the windows because of the ash from nearby fires and can't use the AC because of a potential rain spider nest in our AC unit (TW: Do NOT google rain spider if you do not like spiders). I'm. So. Hot.

How are you feeling?  Hot, see above. Aside from that ok. Pelvic pain is slightly better but heartburn is getting worse. Baby is out of space and my ribs are expanding.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week?  Drove into the city to buy the last few things on our list. All I have left are assembling a few things and packing my bag!

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? Almost a year ago to the day I was at the gynecologist wondering why I still didn't have my period after DS because we wanted to start TTC. Aside from that pretty much the same.

  • @booksandicecream you clearly said not to google rain spider, so what do I go and do? Ughhh I'm never complaining about -40C again.  Those are horrible looking! :#

Any appointments? Questions? Appointment this afternoon to check my low placenta with an ultrasound

Rants/Raves? So glad this was a 3 day weekend. I really needed it! If only they were all three day weekends.

How are you feeling? Not too bad. Bulky, my cervix/pelvis get kind of sore if I’m up and around a lot. My rib cage has been killing me in the evenings. Our car got rear ended, so all our ‘heavy’ chores are getting rescheduled until insurance gives us the ok- such a pain.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? A couple little things around the nursery, took stuff out of packaging, set aside some bulk freezer recipes until we can do a big shopping trip.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? Last year we were struggling TTC- TW- I had just had a chemical pregnancy after trying for over a year with no luck, and testing with my OB wasn’t pointing to anything. On top of some other difficult stuff, I was really starting to think this might not happen.- end TW We were waiting to follow up with an RE. This is a much better year so far.

Any appointments? Questions? 3-7 is my next appt.

Rants/Raves? SOO f'ing tired. I can't deal with this waking up 10 times a night!

How are you feeling?  Tired, lots of heartburn.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? DH and I did the finishing touching on the nursery and secured the furniture! we are ready to go.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? Hmm 1 year ago it was pretty much the same except DH and I were both contractors with our current companies.

But 2 years AGO was insanely different. I had a 6 month old, was in the process of building my current home (2 hours away from where we lived). I just put in my 2 weeks at my job and was about to start a new job in a new city, alone staying in a B&B for 7 weeks with a baby while my husband stayed in our old home.

  • @kristenhk Sleeping part of the night in a bathtub sounds like the most uncomfortable situation  :/ Hang in there.
@kbirchtree Thank you for the suggestion! I will mention it to H. He was doing some research yesterday and said he may try applying a gel stain over the existing stain and see if that will help. Fingers crossed that doesn't make it worse.
@booksandicecream Thank you! I never realized how low my typical water intake was until now. Forcing myself to drink a gallon a day has been such a challenge because I probably averaged less than 32 oz./day previously. I also wonder if my low measurements have been in part due to his excessive movements every time they are trying to get a good picture. The sonographer was laughing yesterday because his movements were so intense.

Any appointments? Questions? Check up with midwife on Thursday. Expecting the usual admonishment for not gaining enough weight...

Rants/Raves? My college friends threw me a baby shower this weekend. It wasn't very baby-centric, per my request, it was much more about just getting together and hanging out (and also exploring the city together some). Despite how many times I asked them not to get us baby gifts (it's not like most of them are in more comfortable financial situations, and they all traveled out to see me which involved cross-country flights for most), they insisted. So sweet. Making me tear up just thinking about it.

How are you feeling? Round, definitely feeling round. Tired all the time. But not too bad, all things considered.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? Yes, actually! Meeting with a pediatrics group on Wednesday - they are highly recommended by the MFM group I am seeing, so I think we probably won't find anything to complain about. But it still seems good to check, and then that will actually be checked off the list. And, see comment about baby shower above, that we are actually starting to accumulate a few baby items. Also, finalizing plans for my FIL to come out and work on nursery prep... so progress being made.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? Different. I was working at a different job; my partner and I were living apart because of it. We had basically just decided that we shouldn't replace my IUD and get ready for TTC. I was a lot more self-focused relative to now, where it really feels like I'm focused on this joint endeavor of starting a family -- not bad, just different.

  • @booksandicecream I hate spiders!  I can’t imagine that living in my AC.  When DH and I went on our honeymoon we went on a jungle tour which included spelunking in a cave.  DH assured me he had done this before and it was no big deal.  What he failed to realize was that spelunking in an American cave vs a Caribbean cave were the insanely bigger bugs.  Our tour guide pointed out a scorpion spider on the wall and I was sooooo done after that.

  • @kristenhk @tumblefluff I am so glad North Americans see sense. The response from the South Africans was "aw, it's just a harmless rain spider." They must have a bravery gene (or insanity gene) I do not possess because the only reasonable way I see to deal with this issue is with a blowtorch  :D I played the pregnancy card and someone much braver than I is supposedly coming to deal with it.

  • @booksandicecream my Boss is from SA. And I have lots of friends there. Nobody has ever mentioned this terrible beast. 😬
  • *lurking from week 3*
@booksandicecream nope nope nope. I don't care that it's not even poisonous (yes, my research went that far). I'd probably freak out if I saw that thing crawling across my floor.

    Nope, nope, nope.
  • Due date: 4/28 (c-sec 4/16)

Any appointments? Questions? Next appointment 2/26 and we're going to meet with pediatricians -- what should we ask them -- I know there's google... but... I'd rather look at your homework  ;)

Rants/Raves? no rants or raves... well a tiny rant -- I feel like I'm planning may own baby shower because everyone wants to run everything by me and I'm like "I know I'm controlling but I don't want to have anything to do with it..." but being unemployed and in need of a project to assist me in not finishing our baby boys room -- I find myself planning my baby shower ... :#

How are you feeling? I'm having a big energy push and my eating is returning to 1st trimester status -- I only ate 2 meals a day because I was never hungry and nothing seemed appealing. I'm overweight and I gained only 7 lbs so far but I'm really feeling the weight gain because of the baby -- sometimes it feels like too much and I have to take a break.

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week? My H & I made good progress on the room -- we just have to clean off his desk and toss the filing cabinet and the room is 90% done.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago? Last year we were still waiting to start our family -- I had my 2nd abdominal myomectomy to get rid of my fibroids and get my uterus baby ready. We just decided to move and we started looking a couple of weeks later.... life was pretty awesome and we were super happy -- we still are <3

  • Due date:  April 25, 31 weeks!

Any appointments? Questions? 30 week appointment was on Wed. Couldn't get my tDap due to this never-ending cold.

Rants/Raves?  Kids are harbingers of the plague! DD got a cold 4 weeks ago and gave it to DH and I.  They got better in 2 weeks but my symptoms lingered. I was off meds for a day and DD got another cold.

How are you feeling?  My lower back is sore and theres not much chiro can do anymore 🙁

Did you do anything to prep for baby this week?  Ordered the remaing crib sheets and a matching lumbar pillow for my rocking chair.

GTKY: How different was your life one year ago?  Mixed emotions. We just found out we were pregnant again which is always terrifying with my MC history. TW- sadly we lost her a few weeks later.
