    Due date: April 21-22

Any appointments? Today.  Baby looks good. Fundal height measuring 1/2 week ahead. I have a little fungus on my skin... dr told me to wash it with dandruff shampoo :) thinking of tea tree oil on it, anyone use that while pregnant? I would dilute a bit but it’s the antifungal in most of the anti dandruff shampoos  I’m not one for essential oils, but this one has more backing it. 🤷‍♀️ I also have thrush in my mouth from my asthma inhaler that I’m on daily to help prevent me from having an asthma attack in labor this time around. Complicated life.

Rants/Raves? I’m happy to be in the 3rd trimester :) also we got our stroller and car seat in the mail today and 😍 I love them  😍

How are you feeling? My pelvic bones hurt at their joints and but my sciatica has been less terrible this past few days  but whoa baby did the heartburn come in terrible. I always have it but I’m on the full over the counter dose of Zantac and it’s not cutting it. May email my OB and ask for ideas, it was really bad with dd too.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Cleaned house, made more space in bedroom drawers, got stroller and car seat.

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? It’s my dream job. It’s terribly hard and extremely rewarding. I love the love 💕

@kbirchtree I used tea tree oil when my acne was bad first trimester. From what I found, there’s no evidence about topical use during pregnancy. I think I found some studies that looked at ingestion and (this might not be correct, I don’t remember very well) they found evidence that it crossed the placenta? Or some very vague indication that it might interact with the fetus, but effect of this potential exposure was unknown and it was also a very different usage/dosage than a dilute topical application.
I decided that it was likely not toxic enough to be worth avoiding, but that’s definitely a personal judgement.

    Due date: 4/24

Any appointments? Questions? I had a follow up anatomy scan today. Everything looked pretty normal, but I guess they still want me to come back at 36 weeks just to check again. But I am so glad that the growth is on track (actually consistently a little ahead) because everyone says my bump is small and also that my weight gain has been on the low end.

Rants/Raves? Can I just say the US government? I know a lot of people who were struggling because of the shutdown. I’m really glad it’s over (for now) and that Trump didn’t get anything from it because it’s an absurd negotiation tactic... but also just hoping that our lawmakers do something to prevent it from happening again. So ridiculous.

How are you feeling? So tired. Got home from work today and just got into bed and wept a little from exhaustion. It was not a long day by any means, I was just beat. Also, like all of my organs are so squished! I feel like I can’t breathe and can barely eat like, half a PBJ sandwich at once. I feel a bit like I might vomit after every time I eat.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? My partner read a book out loud to my belly, does that count? I said I’d sign up for baby classes last week but maybe I’ll actually do it this week...

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? I really look forward to learning from my children. Not just in that way that kids are uninhibited by prior knowledge and sometimes deeply insightful way; but also in the fact that kids become adults who forge their own way in the world. And I’m sure that they will do things that I never could imagine or understand before, but maybe I will be able to learn more about the world through the choices that they make in it.

    Due date: 4/29 (27w1d!)

Any appointments? Questions?  Rhogam + bonus ultrasound a week from Thursday

Rants/Raves?  Rant: I think I'm on the last day or two of my engagement ring.  :'(  &  Rave:  I just realized I can still wear two of my pre-prego pairs of pants with a super stretched-out hair tie and my Blanqi tank!  This increases the # of pants I have to wear by 200%.

How are you feeling?  Starting to get third-trimester tired.  Not okay.

What have you done to prep for baby this week?  Briefly considered turning the walk-in closet into a nursery?  Wrote a bunch of really painful essays to get a fellowship to pay for a little babysitting for her while I finish my dissertation?  Stay tuned for actual helpful prep...

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood?

STM:  I LOVE how quickly I got a sense of her as a real person, who has traits I want to emulate and interests that can expand my horizon.  DD is much more patient and sympathetic than I am, and I want to be more like her.  Wanting to be more like your kid is one of the best desires I've ever experienced.  DD also LOVES ballet.  We've watched HOURS together, and it's really given me an appreciation for the art that I never had before.

I also LOVE the way that DD helped my husband and I pull the focus off ourselves and grow in new ways.  After 7 years, I feel like we had "learned" most of the basic things we could "do for" each other (he makes me feel more secure, I help him become disciplined) and we were starting to get in a rut where we spoiled/gave up on each other's character in small ways (he was getting too indulgent with my fears/complaining, and I was giving up on his lack of responsibility in certain areas).  I really think adding a 3rd person to the mix helped us toughen up, and also revealed some areas in which we are BOTH poorly formed/immature and challenged them in ways we never would have on our own.  I feel like our relationship grew more in the year after DD was born than in about 5 years previously.

    EDD 4/26, 27+4

Glucose test Friday plus regular prenatal.

Rant: I’m feeling the same as many of you about winter. So over it. We also get a dose of polar vortex, with negative temperatures the next couple of days.

Rave: despite all my snacking this last week on our babymoon, I only gained one pound. Whoo hoo! This keeps my weight gain to a reasonable average.

Feeling: the reflux is getting so much worse. I’m going to cut out tea completely now. Back pain. Tired. The usual.

Baby prep: well, we babymooned, which was honestly more necessary than I realized. We hadn’t been been away together since DD was born, and it was nice to remember how it feels to go somewhere and be able to just focus on each other. Also, DH has been talking about getting his hands dirty on the room reno for DD so she can move out of the nursery, starting tomorrow when our house guest leaves. So I’m excited to not have to nag this time.

GTKY: STM: I love watching DD learn. Her vocabulary is so big, and growing weekly. Sometimes I miss working, but being a SAHM was honestly my dream, and every day she reminds me how grateful I am that we can live on DH’s income and I can be there with her as she learns and grows. Also she’s very snuggly. Which sometimes gets old, but I know I’ll miss it one day.
I’m excited to add a baby brother and experience being a boy mom!

Any appointments? Questions? Next appointment is next week

Rants/Raves? Everything DH does is irritating me.  Even the helpful stuff

How are you feeling? Tired but can’t sleep and a little cabin fever

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Ordered my breast pump.  Not sure I picked the right one but I’m hopeful

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom?  Being a mom is a joy I couldn’t have ever imagined. I think my favorite moments are when he stops doing what he was doing and gives me a hug or a kiss. Blows me away every time.

    Due date: 4/28

Any appointments? Questions? Had one today (rescheduled since I had been sick). Just a prenatal, every thing looks good! Glucose test next appointment and going every 2 wks now.

Rants/Raves? It’s been hard to adjust my expectations of my self (motherhood has been teaching me this over and over since I got pregnant with my first in 2015). I constantly think that a particular task or project should take 2-3 days and it always take more like 10 🤣. Good thing I started early and more lessons in pacing yourself and cultivating patience. FUN.

How are you feeling? Pretty good, better than last time I was pregnant.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Not baby specific things this week. More just things I must do now or wait like a year to tackle. Re organizing the vanity cabinets in all bathrooms. Taking an inventory of personal care supplies, cleaning supplies etc so I can stock up before baby.

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? I love that this amazing person I get to be around all the time is my kid!!! It’s so cool! It’s so amazing how much love someone so small has for everyone. I’m sure all parents feel this way but- do I really get to keep him? Is he really mine? Could I be that lucky!?! Gosh my kid is just the BEST!

Any appointments? Questions? Nothing until Feb 19.

Rants/Raves? Rant:  pregnancy brain is real :( sooo forgetful.  Rave:  love my new Blanqi leggings! Was iffy about spending that much money on leggings but glad I did.

How are you feeling? Pretty good lately.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Not much. Will work on the nursery more this week.

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? FTM- everything! Haha, just can't wait to meet her in general.  12 weeks seems so far away right now. Anxious about making mistakes but I guess that's to be expected :)

Any appointments? Questions? Nothing until Feb 19 (@kristenhk Twinsies?)

Rants/Raves? I’ve felt so tired and foggy-headed this week. Also, I sometimes freak myself out since I’ve mostly gotten used to fetal movement- sometimes my brain doesn’t recognize it happening so I’ll reflect that I haven’t felt things in a while when I definitely have. It’s a little frustrating because I don’t really know how much I should expect.

How are you feeling? Tired and a lil bulky.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Not a lot, but we did ask a close friend about guardianship when we traveled to see them last weekend. Not a thing to buy, but an important step anyway.

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? FTM- I’m looking forward to something totally new and getting to meet our little one together. And less so- we live in a very family friendly city and I’m looking forward to being able to take advantage of that.

@booksandicecream DD’s water broke at 25+2 and it was a nightmare despite knowing she was viable - I can’t even imagine it happening in first tri. I am SO SO GLAD you are still here!! All the creepy internet hugs.

(isn’t it cool they pee out amniotic fluid and can keep themselves going?)

@lyse01 Oh my gosh, how stressful. Honestly, I don't think there's ANY time prior to at least 30 weeks where pPROM isn't a nightmare. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. And yes - I had blood and other fluids mix into the amniotic fluid and the doctor was like, don't worry about that. Baby will filter that and store it with the meconium. And that's exactly what happened. They may be small but they are SUPER resilient.

@booksandicecream, that sounds absolutely horrifying.  Glad both you and baby are doing well.  You both are incredibly strong and resilient.

@booksandicecream That sounds horrible to have to deal with, I totally understand giving yourself space to deal with the stress and uncertainty. I’m so glad you have an amazing little fighter.

@booksandicecream DH adds his sympathies and extends them to your SO! When we were on bedrest in the hospital, they said they’d induce at 34 weeks (I think) if DD didn’t come naturally before then. Something about less risky out than in at that point. Have your doctors talked at all about early inductions/NICU time?

@booksandicecream oh my goodness! I’m sure that was terrifying. So glad he held on, and welcome back!

@booksandicecream I can't imagine going through that and how you must have felt every day.  You are BOTH extremely strong! So happy you're still here with us!

Any appointments? Questions? Had my GD screen last week and PASSED! Measured right at 27wks and HR was 141. We are team green, but I’m pretty sure this is another boy. Same HR as DS had and carrying similarly.

Rants/Raves? We are in a polar vortex and now the gas company had a fire so natural gas is in shortage... my anxt is high....

How are you feeling? Large. Heartburny.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Nursery is mostly put together. Waiting for my completion discount to order all the things from amazon

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? I love seeing him grow and learn... and seeing my husband as a dad. He’s the best.

    Due date: 4/27/19

Any appointments? Questions? Coming up next week.  I'll have to do the glucose test for that one.

Rants/Raves? I am catching all kinds of sicknesses from my students at school, and Tylenol doesn't do anything for me!  I currently have a bad cold, and I pee like 90% of the time that I cough or sneeze!  What the heck?!  Not fun or cool.  Ever since morning sickness ended, I've been sick with something once a month.  Also, heartburn isn't fun, but luckily hasn't been bothering me every day.  Baby is kicking and moving around quite a bit all the time, and that's been fun!

How are you feeling? Aside from being sick with a bad cold for the past week, I'm feeling better than I was first trimester for sure.  Just exhausted and going to bed early many nights...as in passing out on the couch at 6pm and then waking up two hours later just to get up and go to bed, lol! (This is mainly the reason I haven't been active in the forums recently - I'm just too exhausted after work!)

What have you done to prep for baby this week? Looking into getting the carpet removed from our stairs to the nursery.  It's so slippery, and both DH and I have fallen on the stairs multiple times since moving into the house.  Don't want to fall down the stairs with a baby!

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood?

I'll be a FTM, and I'm so excited for everything!  I can't wait to meet our little boy and enjoy all the moments watching him grow up.  I know the road won't be all rainbows and sunshine, but I know it'll all be worth it.

@booksandicecream, welcome back! You and your baby are amazing! I’ve said this before but it has never seemed more true: each baby is unique and as such each pregnancy and birth journey are unique and that little life inside of you, heavens gold, couldn’t possibly have a better mother than you and all the hard work and preparation that you have done so far is forging you into the exact mother that this precious little one needs.

I can can not even begin to understand the anxiety, strength and perseverance! I’m so glad you are here!

    Due date: 4/28/2019 (schedule c-section 4/16)

Any appointments? Questions? Had GD test this week and passed  My next appointment is 3 weeks doc check in and ultrasound. Went to dermatologist and discovered that I have acne... yah me  ;)

Rants/Raves? these hormones are killing me acne.... ugh!

How are you feeling? feeling pretty good. my carpal tunnel still bothers me but it has eased a bit. My energy level is awesome and I feel like this is what the 2nd trimester energy push feels like ...of' course I feel this when there is one month left of the 2nd tri.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? I cleaned the bassinet sheets and we're ready to go. I have to clear out 3-4 boxes in his room --which I will do this weekend. baby shower invites are heading next week and I did all of the prep work for my sisters... I can relax now

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? I can't wait to hold him, take him to the park, and make him snacks (which is a while way)

@lyse01 No, I don't think they are planning an early induction. The fetal specialist did say viability for me may not be until 30 weeks because of possible lung development delay, so they definitely wouldn't do anything before then. Were they concerned about you developing infection? I was told that was a very likely outcome but at this point it's been 3 months with no infection so I probably dodged that bullet. But yes, he has an increased chance of needing NICU time, even if I make it to term.

Any appointments? Questions? Today. We have an ultrasound and then the 1 hr glucose test (again!) I passed the first one and yet they are still making me do it again. I guess because of AMA? Or maybe because DS1 was 9 lb 3.9oz?

Rants/Raves? My acid reflux/indigestion/heartburn has been KILLING me. I have only been combating it with Tums and seltzer water, which isn't really cutting it, so I am going to talk to the doctor today.

How are you feeling? Other than the fire burning in my stomach and throat, I feel pretty well. Around 1 p.m. every day I do have to convince myself not to fall asleep in class.

What have you done to prep for baby this week? We registered for prenatal classes and a hospital tour. Sunday we should be tackling the baby's room by clearing out my husband's desk and music equipment and putting together a crib

GTKY: STMs: what do you love about being a mom? FTMs: what do you look forward to about motherhood? I love that DS and I share so many things in common. My H always says that he has a connection with me like no other (which is huge considering he is 14) and he looks up to me.

@booksandicecream it was probably infection related...or maybe a case specific thing. I’m not sure - we didn’t discuss it in detail because I had eight weeks of bedrest to get through first and we were more concerned about the what ifs of delivering in week 25 and 26 at the time. I got lots of preemptive antibiotics though (along with steroids for lung development and magnesium sulfate for something...I’m drawing a blank on what exactly but a side effect was to stop potential contractions).

There are some solid NICU threads in March and May, if you want to go lurking.
