If its fluid from your water breaking, it feels heavier than urine. Also when my water broke it was like Niagara Falls was coming out of me, no feminine pad could hold it, the liquid was flowing out of me for hours. The liquid did not stop until I was well into labor.
What @disneybaby84 said. Though some people do experience slow leaks. If you are leaking amniotic fluid at a slow enough pace, usually it'll just stop on it's own. You could always double-check by having your OB do a litmus/nitrazine paper or microscopic fern test in office. Usually amniotic sac ruptures are pretty obvious because they involve a gush or pop sensation followed by A LOT of clear, unstoppable fluid.
Is there going to be any warning before the water breaks? Like contractions, cramps, etc. I plan to come into the office until baby comes, but I’ll be horrified if my water breaks at work... plus on our new office carpet! I feel like I’m not going to be able to just leave and ask a coworker or janitor, hey can you clean up my mess? How should I prepare?!
@oftcfo Most people's water doesn't break until they're in labor. There's really no warning, but I prepare by bringing extra clothes (pants, underwear and socks) in the car wherever I go, plus a couple towels since leakage can continue after the initial gush. I also have a mattress protector on my bed in case it happens there (like @disneybaby84). With DS, my water broke when the midwife checked my cervix during active labor. With DD it broke on it's own during active labor.
@oftcfo same here!! I am afraid of mine breaking at work as well. My mom keeps telling me about how her water broke when she had both my brother and I... once was in the car and once was at home. So, I'm hoping if mine happens that way too, that it is in the middle of the night like @disneybaby84!!
@MrsCaliRN That is a great idea, I think I'll throw some extra clothes and a towel in work bag, just in case!
@MrsCaliRN thanks for the advice! I still need to work on our hospital bags, but I think I’ll make an emergency hospital bag for now with clothes and towels for me to put in my car. I’m 36 weeks today!
My water broke last monday morning i had period like cramping the entire weekend. I got up about 2am for my normal pee and bam i ran to the bathroom to pee and it was a very uncontrollable amount of liquid coming out of me that seemed to react to my movement. That was when i knew it was my water breaking...almost 24 hours later we welcomed our little boy to the world at 36 w6d! Good luck mamas!
@oftcfo With my first, my water broke in the afternoon with no warning (37+3). I had a dr appt earlier in the day so luckily I was working from home. This time around I’m keeping an extra pair of pants and a few baby diapers with me at all times. A pad won’t be enough to contain the fluid, but a diaper worked great!
Thanks everyone i didnt mean ro hijack your post i just knkw i spent a week prior playing the is it pee or amniotic fluid game! Get your rest while you can mamas! Its a whole other level of tired when your wee one arrives!
