@oklahomak Yes, I contacted them yesterday and was told both are covered in full, and I don’t have to choose one or the other. So I figure why not? Unless we didn’t want to do the screenings at all.
@oklahomak I've been taking unisom at night and 10mg of B6 3 times a day (when I remember) to help with nausea and it's been AMAZING for my being up for no f*cking reason at 2am (or one day at 12:44--and then I got to go to work all day). It may also be helping the morning sickness. My midwife told me about the combo with DD but I was off for the summer (I'm a teacher) and didn't have a toddler, so naps weren't an issue. This time around I felt like I was going to die/bite someone's head off/cry constantly at work so I'm really glad I decided to try the unisom.
@oklahomak I forgot to add that I did NIPT blood test and then another blood tests (possibly the quad screen--I can't remember) at 15w (but no NT ultrasound) with DD. My midwife said the NT ultrasound looked for the trisomies so it wasn't necessary. The additional blood test picked up elevated AFP, so I got brought in for an early anatomy scan to look for neural tube and/or dorsal/ventral defects--which she didn't have thankfully (and could have been caused by the placenta growing into my uterine wall--though we didn't figure that out until after delivery). I can't see the harm in doing alllll the tests though!
@oklahomak You'll have to check with your insurance. Frequently NIPT is covered by insurers for AMA moms and/or high-risk moms. My sister was under 35 and hers wasn't covered. It cost them about $300 OOP and it counted towards their deductible (which my sister knew she would meet anyway that year). @dogmomma096 I wasn't sure how common it was to do NIPT and NT and when I asked about it and did some research I determined NT can detect certain physical issues that are not chromosomal. For example the NT scan can detect if a chromosomally normal baby has a high likelihood of congenital heart defect. If you knew that early you could be better prepared by finding a specialist and having the right team available at birth, so I can see a definite value in that beyond just the fact of having a scan in addition to NIPT. The NIPT looks only at chromosomal abnormality but is significantly more accurate than the NT for that purpose.
@oklahomak I’m in the insomnia club. I struggle to fall asleep and then when I wake up to pee (or H wakes me up when he comes to bed), it takes forever to fall back asleep
@zamora_spin I don’t know when I’ll need them but Motherhood Maternity had a big sale with free shipping last week so I kinda bought some stuff 🤷♀️
@zamora_spin I said something similar in the Product Spotlight post on maternity clothes but thought I’d say it here too! Last time I did a big “basics” shopping trip around 12 weeks and then filled some items out throughout the 2nd and 3rd tri as the need arose (eg I didn’t switch to maternity leggings until 20-22ish weeks). There’s no point in being uncomfortable so knock yourself out in terms of getting into maternity clothes as soon as you want!
Sizing-wise you’ll generally just use your pre-pregnancy size. You may grow out of stuff late in the third tri but at that point it’s all about survival lol.
@zamora_spin When I was pregnant with my son I needed maternity pants by 12 weeks, but was getting by in other/flowy shirts a little longer. I noticibly showed by 10 weeks though even as a FTM. I think this pregnant is going to be similar. I’m 9 weeks and had to keep my regular jeans unbuttoned yesterday haha. I hate the waistband digging into my stomach!
