Due Date Accuracy?

Does anyone have experience with the doctors saying your due date is different than what you thought? And how is it going, or how did that turn out?

When I originally calculated my due date based on LMP, it was around January 22nd. However, I wasnt 100% sure which day my LMP started/ended (although I knew the general week in which it happened, because it ended the week before our honeymoon). At my first ultrasound, the doctors said my baby was measuring a little smaller, so they made my due date February 1st. Now, I've had an ultrasound where my baby is weighing kind of big, and I went back to check the notes on a US i had at 22 weeks, and saw that he was measuring around 23 weeks. So I'm wondering if i really am due a week sooner, which would put me at 38 weeks instead of 37 right now?

Re: Due Date Accuracy?

  • My dates that I figured myself have always been right on. However, I chart, so I know my ovulation date. My babies have all been born within a couple days of my EDD, though really EDD are just estimates. And, excluding inductions, first time moms are more likely to go to 41 weeks than 40.

  • Yeah, my doctor made mine weird too. I knew the first day of my last period so I gave her that, which estimated me at January 24th. Unlike the doctor I had with my first one, this one does dating ultrasounds. Because of the dating ultrasound she changed my due date to January 21st. My first child was born 2 days early. Baby will come when they're ready, regardless of the date.
  • Mine was moved up at the first ultrasound by two weeks (made me 11 instead of 9 weeks). The doctor told me that ultrasound was the most accurate and was the only one they'd change dates from (my cycles are way off...Dr said I was probably heading toward a 18-20 day cycle that time). The rest of the pregnancy baby continued to measure way ahead of even that date, but the Dr assured me that only the first one mattered from a dating perspective...(he was born at 8lbs 12oz at 37 weeks). Not sure if that helps, but I'd go by the first scan if they changed it then.
