Third Trimester Freakout

It just occurred to me today, when reading the app that I only have 12 more weeks.  We are not ready, not that you ever are, but even though this is our 2nd we have nothing done.

This is fine.

Feel free to join me in the panic and celebration.

Re: Third Trimester Freakout

  • Honestly, I had a mini breakdown in Buy Buy Baby picking up some of the bigger baby items. It was all cool when I was buying little bibs and outfits and now I'm buying her dock a tot and stroller. Y I K E S.

  • Yeah, I’m panicked that we have a ton to do and only 14 weeks left to do it. Luckily, we have all the big stuff from DD but his room is nowhere near set up, stuff isn’t brought up from the basement, the basement room isn’t finished and we still need to get a few things for him.
  • Definitely feeling the stress. Still apartment hunting and it’s hard to buy things and prepare when you’re planning to move. Trying not to let it overwhelm me.
  • You ladies who are moving or house hunting while pregnant are my heroes.  We're just trying to remodel one room to be the nursery and I'm already in a panic that it won't be done.

I'm seriously freaked out about this babe being here so soon.  A part of me wants it over with, and a part of me is like, what the heck am I gonna do with a 5yo and a newborn?  Especially since this time around my DH will basically be MIA due to his job, whereas with our first kiddo I had DH and my parents around to help out.  So even though it's our second, I feel like a FTM all over again.

  • Yes! We have nothing for baby boy other a few clothing items. I need to get my ass in gear, especially since my babies tend to come a few weeks early!

  • We got the stroller & car seat during Black Friday— the only thing we’ve kept from DD1 who’s 8 y/o was her crib.. we have so much work to do in baby’s room before we can even put the crib up.. I may Have had a panicked moment the other day to DH of baby sleeping in a laundry basket 😆😆I am worried Of the parts for DD1’s crib missing parts or something??  but hey, at least we have the car seat so we can Bring her home from the hospital  🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

    DD #2: BFP: 8-19-18 EDD: 4-30-19
  • Remember ladies Amazon prime can be there hella fast! I seriously ordered stuff in the hospital that was at my door when I got home from the hospital lol.

But I am freaking out only because of decor. I know its super lame but I am a crafter and want to put in the same amount of effort that I did with DDs room but I started much earlier before. ekkk

  • @kosmo86, yeahh, this child is definitely already suffering from second child syndrome.  At this point in my first pregnancy, I had the nursery completely done and painted and it only had to be organized.  Now?  Ha ha ha... I'll be lucky if this kid has a room by the time he's 2 .

  • Well...we cleaned out the attic. Now to do the plumbing, electrical, flooring, framing, drywall, painting, and furnishing for DS so that the new babes can have a room. Totally doable in 10 weeks.

  • @kangstadt we are already suffering from second baby syndrome. I had the nursery set up by this time (furniture anyways) and had baby showers coming up in the next few weeks.

This time? I've hung up some clothes and starting doing some laundry. The rest of his room is a disaster. Crib is in the corner of the room in pieces, toys are scattered everywhere and by the time I get home at night, I'm pooped.
  • @MRDCle, totally doable!  You might just have to enlist some friends for manual labor .

@mrstmoose, I think that's the biggest factor slowing things down.  I'm so much more tired this time around!  Plus I know logically the babe will sleep in the pack and play in our room for the first few months anyway.  And I'm the one who is the motivator in things like this, so DH hasn't made any progress without me pushing him.

  • @kangstadt the plus side of having family in the trades! DH does HVAC/plumbing, my brother can handle the electrical, and my aunt's longtime BF is a builder.  It's just finding time when all these people have coordinating schedules!

  • I can't believe we're already here. I feel like this pregnancy is going so much faster than my last. And @kosmo86 I totally empathize. I have all these crafts to do. Every night after DS goes to bed I can't bring myself to do them though. So it begins....
  • I'm still in shock that this is my last week of second tri! It is definitely flying, and as a FTM everything is sort of panic inducing :D

  • My kitchen has been half-painted for the last year. With my baby shower coming up, I decided now would be a good time to finish that project, so I finished half a wall today and now I'm thinking I shouldn't have bothered. CT makes it painful and my hand went numb very quickly.
I don't count on my husband to finish the project, he never helped with repainting our kitchen to begin with, but we are doing great on time with re-insulating our attic!
Our biggest hurdle after that will be pre-washing all the cloth diapers and inserts before baby gets here. Many of the reviews for a few of the ones I want stated that the inserts needed to be pre-washed 6-9 times for the absorbency to kick in. This will be my first time cloth diapering so I'm just going with it, but I'm not looking forward to how much time that will take.
  • @mighty_montgomery chalk it up to laziness, but most of my new cloth diapers got pre-washed twice and then I just used/changed more frequently til they’d hit the recommended washes. Was the absorbency different? Probably, but it’s not like they didn’t soak up SOME pee.

YEEES! Haha I have totally considered doing this on more than one occasion with our cloth diapers. 😅 "If I start using them when we get home from the hospital, by the time she has a bigger bladder and will need the absorbency these are advertised to have, then won't they have been washed the recommended amount of times to be that absorbent?? Hmmm."
  • I'm kind of freaking out but at the same time like, "yes... make time pass faster." On the one hand, I'm so sick of being pregnant. I am super anxious about labour and delivery and just want to get it over and done with. But also, we still have to set up the nursery, figure out maternity / paternity leave, get everything shored up with work, and do the whole baby shower thing. We decided not to really buy anything until after the shower, so we didn't end up with multiples of things. Rather we'd just fill in the gaps after. But now I'm like, "we only have at most 7 weeks to get everything sorted and bought post shower." but also "get this baby out of me."

With DS we had the shower just over four weeks before he came (about 5.5 weeks before he was due) and it was no issue. We had a crib, dresser, and chair already but most of our odds and ends were from the shower (we weren't really concerned about someone randomly buying a crib/dresser for us). You should be fine.

  • @MRDCle That's good to hear! As long as the little nugget stays in there for as long as she should we'll be okay hopefully!
  • @kate_e_nb I felt the same with DD since my showers were later and I didn’t want to buy anything extra. But it ended up being plenty of time. So I agree, you’ll be fine. But I totally get feeling antsy while you wait! I’m a planner too, and I like to have things done early.

Which is why it’s driving me nuts that we haven’t made any progress on DD’s room, so she can move out of the nursery. I remind myself that this kid won’t be using the nursery for awhile but I still wanted DD in her new room well before baby so there’s not so much big change happening for her all at once. I figure if we’re done with her room by the end of feb that should be good (I’m due at the end of April).
  • @HGRich that's my issue as well - I want DS to be established in his new room before the babies need HIS room so he doesn't feel like they're taking his room. I know they'll be in our room for a few months but I would really prefer for things to be done before they arrive.

  • Just a PSA: go talk to your benefits administrator today about your FMLA, STD, insurance, etc. Each company is different so make sure you understand what you need to do before/during/after birth.
  • @kate_e_nb we're in the same situation. DH keeps reminding me every time I suggest picking something up, that we already registered for it and just need to be patient (and also wait for the registry completion coupons). I'm a planner so I really want to have everything set up basically yesterday. DH is more go with the flow. Which is good because I need someone to talk me down most of the time lol. It definitely makes me feel better to read that people got everything ready in less time than I'll have (as long as this little guy stays where he is until closer to his due date).
  • I have never been so thrilled to see ‘welcome to the third tri”. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This pregnancy has been a roller coaster and I’m excited to get off of it. Husband and I started painting the nursery and I’m getting REALLY excited to meet this little boy and hug him.
  • @jlklec19 I feel like I got very little useful items at my shower (mostly clothes). So we definitely needed stuff but it’s absolutely possible to get things done in time. Especially with Amazon, lol. I keep reminding myself of this since we have pretty much done nothing so far.

  • I'm nervous about people not getting what we need for our shower. I have been sending out month-beforehand reminders this week including "please look at our registry, we need lots of cloth diapers," paraphrased, and seriously one of my guests responded with "I never look at registries, I always get what I want to get."
    Great.

🤦🏻‍♀️ this is half the reason i hate baby showers. my registry list is bougie as fuck, but i told my friends hosting that we don’t NEED a much more than diapers & clothes, but if people insist on gifting anything, i’d much prefer it be something that doesn’t cost me a trip to goodwill or consignment to get rid of bullshit.

i was induced w/ my first b/c my water broke before contractions started. and it recently occurred to me that i don’t really remember the contractions. so now i’m freaking the fuck out about how it’s going to go down this time. do i need to time them? how painful should they get before i go in? how long should i wait before i ask for the epidural?

    Great.
You should reply to them with then please include a gift receipt so I can take it back and get what I might actually need/use/like, lol.

I think the only useful thing I got at mine was the bath tub.

I got tons of blankets (which yes are useful but we did not need near the amount we received and I know I didn’t have that many on my registry) and clothes. So much freaking pink too. And I had even made a point to stress that we didn’t want pink stuff because we were for sure going to have more kids. No one listened.

  • @batmama31 My doc gave me guidelines on a lot of that stuff in a big packet about l&d when I got closer to the end. I would imagine it changes per doc/hospital/system, but they can probably give you a copy on what they do or go by. Also I was asked about what pain management I had in mind when I got to l&d.

I feel like labor and delivery has really one job and they are usually pretty on point about the questions and information gathering in order to help you out. And probably pretty used to people freaking out on them, lol. I love l&d nurses.

  • It seriously hasn't hit me yet that I'm even pregnant.. lol. I got my pregnant when my son was 7 months old, it's been a blur ever since! How in the world are we already almost done? I told my husband it's not going to hit me until probably the night after I have the baby when I will just stare at him and be like....oh.. we have another one! Lol
