  • What route (Foster Care adoption, domestic, international)? domestic infant adoption

Where are you in the process right now (just thinking, home study, waiting for match, etc.) Waiting to be matched with birth parents

Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process? We are getting ready to renew our Home Study. Most of our paperwork expires this month.

    Any questions? Nope.

Any tips for the steps you’ve passed? Patience is key. Sometimes it takes a while for our social workers to find the right match.

GTKY (Get to know you) How did you ring in the New Year? We celebrated our anniversary - 13 years of dating! Fancy dinner for two and Blues concert to take is to midnight.

Any questions? Any advice on the actual home study would be greatly appreciated.

Any tips for the steps you’ve passed? Do your research to find the right agency for you and make sure it's ethical.

GTKY (Get to know you) How did you ring in the New Year? We made pasta at home with a bottle of wine and watched a movie. It was wild!

GTKY (Get to know you) How did you ring in the New Year? We decided to go ahead and announce on social media. We've been very open about wanting to adopt and open about our infertility journey so we felt comfortable with the questions we knew we would get. We posted it on new years day with the caption "new year, new adventure!" Cute announcement pic in spoiler!

  • @WinnieD Good luck with everything. One advice I would give for homestudy is to allow 1 month for paperwork completion - sometimes it can hard to get everything done right away - especially during tax season.

For the visit I would make sure the house is clean and comfortable. Be honest about your desires for adoption and be open to listen to advice from your social worker.

It was important for us to find an agency that was Birth Mom focused. We didn't want our adoption to leave a big hole in this person's life and then not have any resources available for her. But ultimately it was cost that played the major factor for us.

@ tamalahoops very exciting to see your announcement! Congrats on making the decision to move forward!
