UTI, should I even go to the ER?

Im 36 weeks pregnant and randomly at night I got the sudden urge to pee with little pee coming out and some burning sensation and it’s been going on since then. Last night it was that along with diaharrea and chills, I had 2 blankets on me. This morning I woke up okay but just an hour ago I got that sensation of having to go pee and the chills. I’ve been drinking even more water since last night and just started drinking cranberry juice. My doctors office is closed today and tomorrow so there is no way to reach her at the moment. Should I just wait it out or something I should really get taken care of the the ER?

Thanks!

Re: UTI, should I even go to the ER?

  • If you were one of my patients, who called with those symptoms, I would tell you to check out an urgent or instacare clinic. They will be able to get you in and out and on antibiotics faster than the ER, and probably for less money. If you can’t find an urgent care open today, then you should go to the ER. UTIs can get serious fast when you’re pregnant and can lead to preterm labor, so considering you’re already bad enough to have a fever and chills, you need to get in somewhere to get on antibiotics today.

  • You need to see a doctor. UTIs can get serious fast and a lot of times are asymptomatic in pregnancy, so if you're at the point where you're feverish with chills, it's possible that you've had the infection for awhile and you need to be on antibiotics. Unchecked UTIs can lead to pre-term labour as well as kidney infections. If you can't find an open urgent care clinic, go to the ER. Don't wait it out.
