Re: Symptoms Week of 12/17- 12-23

  • Feeling pretty good this week- still hoping all is good- u/s not until the 31st- I am hoping I will start feeling him move soon.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have a cold that just keeps getting worse, and I woke up with weird cramps. Hoping baby is just in a weird spot or I have to poo. It's uncomfortable and unsettling.
  • The pain regimen seems to be helping with my pain. Down to about a 3/10 which means no tears. I haven’t done much today so not sure how well the meds work while I’m up and about. I feel Bumblebee move every day which has been a huge sigh of relief through all of this!

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I had awful cramps at 16 weeks with both DD and this one and baby was moving like crazy the next day. I really think that it's bowel-related or related to not being hydrated enough.

@mrskoz428 I am so glad the pain is getting better. Are you staying home from work this whole week?

AFM, I am feeling great, but this weekend after eating all kinds of crap food at parties all weekend, I started to get some excessive thirstiness going on. I'm a bit concerned that I am going to end up with the GD. I have a lot of risk factors for it and failed my first test with DD.
  • @chloe97 - I'm only 16 weeks and my doctor ordered my GD monitor already and I haven't even been tested :\ so it looks like the party's over for me here soon. I'm sad because one of my cravings is fresh fruit but it causes my sugars to spike like crazy so I can't have any. But the good news is I'm also craving veggies (not near as much as fruits though) so that helps. Also dairy. ALL the dairy. Last night I ate brie, fresh bread dipped in EVOO, and blackberries for dinner. All I needed was an excellent glass of pinot noir. *sob*
  • @chloe97 just staying home today. I’m out of sick days, honestly.

  • @chloe97 these are just so weird. Like, they come and go like contractions and have a high point, like contractions. But my uterus is only tightening occasionally. I've had like 2 bh this morning. I'm eating a food notorious for making me poo, drinking water, and laying in bed watching friends reruns until my ob appointment. It's honestly starting to worry me, but I'm trying not to get in my head too much. Leave for my appointment in 2 hours.
  • YES! that was the exact same thing that happened to me @eatinwatermelonseeds. With DD, I was hysterical and thought for sure I was losing the baby. This time, I wasn't as caught offguard and remembered that it happened basically the at the exact same point in my pregnancy as it had last time. I was just about to get a prenatal massage and was writhing in pain. It only last for 10-15 minutes and never happened again after about 20 weeks.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds glad you have your appointment today to chat with your doctor. I'll get lower back pain and start to worry and inevitably it's caused by indigestion or gas and goes away in a few hours but it freaks me out every time with my "preterm labor" risks.

@mrskoz428 hoping you continue to improve!!

So I have an abscess on my shoulder, right where my bra strap would hit. It started out as what looked like a teeny zit and has been growing for weeks, now, but I just really got worried this weekend as I can't even remember when it started now and it's not getting any smaller. I'm assuming I should write to my doctor since I don't see her until the 31st. I just kept thinking it was a bad zit that would eventually go away but that's definitely not the case. Any of the medically trained people have insight while I wait for a response from my OB? This has never happened before.

  • @chloe97 I hope that's it! It's been going on for about 3 hours now. Just had another bh. So glad I have an OB appointment because it's making me really uncomfortable. I didn't have bh or pain like this with DS until over viability. Now I'm terrified. I've been laying down for a little while now and it's a little better, but not really.
  • @kvh22 how big is it? The only advice I have for you is to not pick at it. If it is infected,  you don't want all the bacteria spreading.  Just sit tight until you hear from the doc.

  • @expandcontract I'd say it's about a half an inch in diameter. My OB is apparently out until the 26th so the nurse forwarded it to the on call doctor so hoping I hear back soon. We fly tomorrow so if they want me to go in, I might have to do that in my hometown if it can't wait about 2 weeks.

  • @kvh22 oh no.  I hope they can see you right away and get it taken care of. That's a real uncomfortable spot for it to be on unless you go strapless or completely braless. Lol

  • @kvh22 is it open? Or closed? Hot to the touch? Can you take a picture? (If that's not embarrassing/won't bother others). I would probably suggest going to urgent care at this point, they may need to lance it if it isn't open (if a hot compress doesn't help the pus rise to the top), and you'll want to have it tested to make sure it's not staph/MRSA. But that's based on 1. My limited medical experience, 2. Extensive personal experience with MRSA. I cannot give medical advice, of course, but trying to get an appointment with any Dr at this point would be best.
  • I'm so miserable. I'm in the waiting room of my appointment. My back and lower abdomen are off and on hurting/cramping with occasional contractions still. My anxiety is the worst of it, though. Keep playing every single scenario in my head right now.
  • Nearing 18 weeks and still dealing with nausea and morning sickness VERY regularly. Fatigue is back in full force as well. Those little kicks i'm feeling make it 100% worth it though!

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds pic in spoiler (others probably don't want to see it). Hoping the on call doc responds soon. Trying to decide if I should go to urgent care.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds and update us after your appointment! Hope your doc can help!

  • @kvh22 hm, that's interesting. Have you tried a warm compress? It looks like it has a head. I wouldn't pick or push it, but a warm compress may help bring the pus out and help pain.

Ob did an NST, all was well. She thinks it's just uterine irritation and wants me to take it easy and drink more water.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I just decided this cannot be a regular pimple this morning so looked it up and started doing a warm compress. Thanks for taking a look! Sorry to everyone else if the curiosity gets the best of you. I'm sure you immediately regretted looking  :# Glad the NST came back fine! Hydrate, hydrate, and see if you can get a bit of relaxing in <3

  • @kvh22 - I had something like that happen to me recently (under my bra-line near my breast). It lanced itself and went away. The area around it doesn't look inflamed or infected but it doesn't hurt to get it checked by a doctor!
@eatinwatermelonseeds - yay, glad to hear everything is okay! I've been having BH contractions periodically too. I think I need to drink more water.
God knows I try, though. It's impossible. My stomach doesn't have room for 16 cups of water. And I just learned that, during 2nd trimester, I'm supposed to eat 680 calories above and beyond what I normally eat :anguished: not quite sure how I can manage that. I guess I'll keep carrying on as always and hope the nutrition goes to the babies and my body feeds itself off its ample, AMPLE fat stores instead. I wish I could go into my brain and be like "Listen. It's not 1418 anymore. The United States produces so much food we end up throwing a lot of it away. STOP KEEPING ME FAT and use what we have available to give me energy and give the food to the babies, damn it!"
  • Thanks all (@eatinwatermelonseeds, @expandcontract, @wishiwaspreggo) - the on call doc said if I was concerned and wanted to go to urgent care for peace of mind, I could (I sent a note after finding out my OB was out saying I'd like to go today if that's the recommendation). She didn't seem overly concerned so I think I'm going to try a warm compress for a few days to see and I can go to an urgent care in my hometown. If I'm not goign to get a regular appointment with one of my docs, what's the difference. Hoping it starts to get better and I can avoid the trip anyways since I don't think it's so bad they'd do anything to it yet, anyways.

  • I keep think I'm moving out of the nausea phase, hut I keep landing right back in it. This morning sucked (threw up 2x) and have been fighting nausea all day. I guess I'd rather this than really bad aches and pains, but tbh, if rather feel just like a person again, and not a college student that's been on a 3 month bender..

@eatinwatermelonseeds I'm glad to hear the NST came back ok. I was wondering if it was from all the stress and activity of moving , but I'm most definitely not any sort of medically trained person.

@kvh22 if it's been around for a while, another day or two probably isn't too much unless something has changed pain-wise. An urgent care should be able to take care of it, I'd think, if you need it.

@wishiwaspreggo I know at you mean! I wish my body would just use the fat stores I already have instead of making me continue to feel nauseous and cause me to puke every morning.
  • @knarlytaurus Ugh I feel so bad for all of your ladies who are still getting sick! And oddly enough, it doesn't hurt like, at all. I was thinking the same thing, I can go in 2 days when I'm not crazy trying to pack for our 12 day/11 night trip. Plus, we're staying with DH's parents the first few days so if I have to leave to go to urgent care, so be it  :D My mom keeps her old car running so we can use her current car while we're home so I can go off by myself knowing MIL, FIL, DH, BIL and SIL are all doting on DD!

  • Feeling kind of sick today. Had my anotomy scan today, baby measured 18wks and I’m 18+1, I was happy to see her sweet face. I have an umbilical hernia that’s been hurting and OB said if it’s keeps causing pain after wearing a band then I’ll have to have surgery to repair it. I certainly don’t want that! Surgery while pregnant scares me 😱
  • @knarlytaurus - Oh man, I'm so sorry you're still nauseous :( it's so unfair when you still have that feeling past the first trimester. I can't bear that nauseous/barfy feeling and I complained incessantly about it. You're a trooper! My deep sleeps are starting up and if I'm not engaged enough in my surroundings I pass out. It's very embarrassing. My doctor also wrote me a prescription for a super sexy support belt so I get to go to a specialist pharmacy and pick one out this week. Guess it's best that I do it before the end of the year so it'll be no cost to me. But then again I'll be maxing my OOP and deductible by having a baby next year so... meh. It's a wash.
Gotta get a list going of procedures, tests, and medications for my wife and I next year since it'll all be covered! I'm gonna try to get a bladder sling. I am SO SICK of peeing myself when I sneeze. Having twins will make it even worse, especially if I deliver vaginally. FFTC: I kinda hope one of my babies is breech so I can have a c-section :\ I'm not super keen on pushing two babies AND two placentas out of my vagoo in one sitting.
  • @knarlytaurus I'm sorry your still getting sick! That must be awful! It is so crazy how everyone has different symptoms. My best friend is also pregnant and we have had completely opposite symptoms.

@eatinwatermelonseeds So happy you and the baby are doing well!

@isbellwife I hope the pain goes away with the band!! Sending you luck!
  • I started having a burning pain in my lower mid-back on the right side yesterday. I'm starting to think it may be my kidneys because I'm needing to pee more frequently. Then it's hard to go but after I do, I have a bit of relief in my back for a few minutes until I have to pee again 30 minutes later. The pain is making me feel nauseated at this point. I'm trying to make it until my Dr appointment Friday morning. I don't want to spend all day at the ER and it be nothing.

  • @heathergirl89 can you go to urgent care? The urgent care at the hospital where I see my PCP and OB has some Drs dedicated for urgent care same day appointments, not sure if you have anything like that around you?

  • @heathergirl89 sounds a lot like the pain I have been experiencing, although mine is a constant stabbing feeling. Mine ended up being baby squishing my ureter and kidney. The pain got so bad for me, I was in tears and nauseated, as well. Try taking Tylenol or ibuprofen. Ibuprofen does more for me than the Tylenol, but I have to alternate mine, per doctors orders, to remain pain free. 600 mg of ibuprofen or 1000mg of Tylenol is what I was told to take.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I think we only have one urgent Care in the area and they don't take my insurance. I did check with the ER online and it shows how much of a wait time there is. We're about to do the rest of our Christmas shopping. If it's bothering me bad after that, I'll probably go in.

@mrskoz428 I would be happy if it was something that simple. With my high blood pressure, I know kidney and liver problems are a high possibility. All are also symptoms of preeclampsia which they're already monitoring for closely since my protein is already slightly elevated. Baby sits really low so maybe it's something like what you're dealing with

  • Okay so I might be overreacting a little bit, but last night I started getting the chills in the middle of the night.  Then it seemed to go from cold to hot every 10 minutes.  I took my temperature when I work up and its normal, but I just feel really off today now.  I'm kind of out of it, really tired, and little lightheaded.  Could this just be hormones causing this?  I really hope I'm not getting sick.
  • @llhfreedom Have you had your thyroid tested at all? It regulates body temp and can go nuts during pregnancy. I’d get a message into your Dr. I don’t think it’s a super emergency, but if it’s really off they will want to medicate you. I’m on levrothyroxine for my sub clinical hypothyroid (due to 2 MCs) and it’s completely safe for pregnancy. Also- with DD I was constantly freezing to the point I had to wear socks to bed bc I couldn’t stand cold sheets and could not sit on our leather couch with 3 pairs of pants on. Some nights, I’d wear 5-6 layers and sit on my electric blanket to get warm in the 2nd trimester. I still don’t know exactly why this was happening- I think maybe because I lost a ton of weight the first 15 weeks and had much less body fat? With this pregnancy I’m just the opposite- always hot and have to wear basically nothing to bed. I’ve also weighed more than I’ve ever weighed in my life and gained 10 lbs so far so I’m sure that’s part of it

@chloe97 I was having my thyroid tested regularly before because I have a small goiter on my thyroid, but all the previous tests were normal.  Now that I think about it though, I don't think I've had thyroid bloodwork since my first pre-natal bloodwork a few months ago. I'll have to ask the doctor about that. Its strange that it came on so sudden though, maybe my body is just fighting something off too I guess?  I've been so lucky so far and have not really been sick at all, I was probably due eventually!  I also have a headache off and on too since it started, which is new.
  • I have a large kidney stone on my right side. It’s like a ticking time bomb. Unfortunately it’s little too large to pass which is good and bad. My hopes are to have surgery and blast it after baby boy arrives. It hasn’t given me any problems until till just this week. About two days ago I started to have the all to familiar dull ache in my lower back. I have had many stones over the years and had a gigantic one blasted in May. The NP two weeks ago said if the pain get too bad go to the ER because it can cause contractions. Lovely! Just praying and praying that it was sits tight and doesn’t move. Sigh... 20 weeks to go! Seems so far away when you put it in weeks.  :'(

  • All right, I'm calling it. I am pretty certain I have a UTI. I can't move without severe lower abdominal pain. I can't move my legs. It hurts more when I pee. I was just suffering through thinking as long as the baby was okay and I could still function, I'd be fine. Yeah. That's not going well. I can barely move. I may be wrong about the uti, but I'm on the phone to be seen. Something has got to give.
  • I hate to be the medicine police (because I am not a doctor) but make sure you get an OK from your OB before taking ibuprofen. I loved ibuprofen and use to think that Tylenol sucked but 1000mg when my hip pain gets unbearable works well enough.
  • @julwanderlust my Dr gave me the okay in my last pregnancy to take ibuprofen during 1st and 2nd trimesters for migraines. I think they prefer you take Tylenol, but the main concern with ibuprofen comes in the 3rd trimester when it cause a venticle in the heart that needs to close not to close. The risks of unmanaged pain in pregnancy and all the issues that come with it (high blood pressure, lack of sleep, depression, not eating) are greater than the risks of taking ibuprofen at certain times in te pregnancy. This is also why OBs will prescribe narcotics to pregnant women from time to time despite the issues of neonatal drug withdrawal that comes with opioid use in pregnancy. But, as with any medication, always discuss the risk/benefits with your own OB.
  • This might not be the right place to put this but it seemed like the most logical place.

I’ve been having a lot of negative body image issues and I’m kind of at the point of not wanting to leave the house.  I’m trying to pack for our Christmas vacation and I feel like none of my clothes fit me properly.  I’m in this weird in between stage where I don’t have enough of a bump for a lot of maternity tops, but I have enough that all my normal tops look really bad on.  I know it’s sort of a stupid thing to fixate on while pregnant, I just can’t shake the feeling that others around me are judging me for it and it’s making me anxious every time I go out.  I think it’s the feeling that I have no control over how my body looks right now that is really eating at me.
  • @beccaneu your feelings are completely normal. Do you have any full panel maternity jeans? Wearing those with maternity tops helped accentuate my belly and take me from "cheeseburger?" To "baby" and feel more comfortable in my own skin.

I wish I had advice aside from maybe positive affirmations? "My body is creating life. My body is beautiful." It can help if you look in the mirror and say it to yourself often. Your body is seriously amazing, you created a freaking human from tiny little cells, that's pretty badass. I totally get feeling self conscious, I do too, A LOT, but you are a rockstar and you deserve to go flaunt it. Buy some cute maternity clothes (maybe in a smaller size so they are more fitting?), Pamper yourself. I hope you're able to feel better about yourself soon ♥️
