GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming?

Re: Week 1 Check-in 12/10

  • Due date: 3/2

Any appointments? Questions? Did 1-hour glucose screen and nearly passed out 40 minutes into it. Also had my follow-up ultrasound to see if my placenta moved up. Good news, it did! But if it's not one thing, it's another, baby is measuring above the 90th percentile and I have too much amniotic fluid right now so they want me to come back for another follow-up ultrasound in 4 weeks.

    Rants/Raves? Nothing especially.

How are you feeling? Just getting an increasingly bad feeling about how things are progressing.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming? Ok, I think. We have plenty of clothes and a crib not yet put together. Been doing some work in the nursery so there is dust everywhere at the moment. Hoping to get that cleared up this week and ready for painting.

    Any appointments? Questions?

    No more appointments until 12/24

    Rants/Raves?

Rave: I only have 4 more days of work left in 2018!!!

Rant: last night it began - the bones in my spine ached, my hip joints ache...I know this from before and I am not excited to have 3 more months of it.

How are you feeling? Achy, tired and large

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming?

It's OK. Really the only thing left to do is finish the room. I pre-registered to get that out of the way, and my pump is ordered so other than that I am as prepped as I can be!

@bluebell08 yes. That is collostrum (probably spelled that wrong!).

@mayoduck another big yeah for the placenta moving!!!   :)
  • @abbykwail I hear you on waking up throughout the nihght.  :s  I woke up at 3am Saturday morning and never went back to sleep!
  • @chocolatelemons uggghh, right!? I try not to check what time it is because I know screens make it harder to go back to sleep, but I wake up every time I roll over, and then sometimes I have to pee or can't get comfortable, or my hip hurts and I can only go back to sleep sometimes
  • @mayoduck Yay for your placenta moving! I don’t know much about it, but I hope the extra fluid isn’t a cause for too much concern. And you are in good company, I am also growing a giant baby!

Due date: March 5 or 11

Any appointments? Questions? Regular appointment and 1hr glucose test on New Years Eve

Rants/Raves? I was informed by a preggo website that I have 90 days until my due date. Totally freaking me out. Also, my husband’s work Christmas party is on Friday. We got a babysitter, I am putting on a dress and makeup, and we are calling it a date!

How are you feeling? Overall feeling pretty good, but recognizing some of the impending third trimester stuff. I am starting to slow down a bit, needing more rest, getting a little uncomfortable.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming? I have done next to nothing. I keep telling myself that I will get started after the holidays. I am not a nester or a decorating type, and this is a second baby so I am very much planning on winging it, lol.

  • This thread is for those due March 1 to March 9

    Due date: 3/9

Any appointments? Questions? Reg appointment Thursday, check-up with my Primary care provider tomorrow to get my wellness check in for insurance, and I scored 7 points too high on the 1 hour test 136 so I guess I need to find time to schedule the 3 hour test.

Rants/Raves? Rant: along with the argument I had with DH this weekend, I’m also stressing over trying to find time to schedule the 3 hour test. I can’t do it on this Saturday and I really don’t have the sick time to take off work for it. With it being a 12 hour fast there isn’t a way to go after work.

Rave: we are taking DS to a holiday train display tomorrow with my family and to see Santa on Wednesday!

How are you feeling? I’m definitely getting more crampy down there. I had some period like cramps last night before bed and I can definitely feel the weight of my belly bothering my legs/making them achy. Other than that just a bit tired and dealing with heartburn.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming?

This is another thing stressing me out! We are very focused on Christmas right now and with all the decorations up we have such little space in our home to prepare for DS2’s arrival. I have pulled out DS1 newborn and 0-3 clothes and we have a dresser for him. Other than that we haven’t done much.

@mayoduck congrats on the placenta moving up!

@BuckeyeNut05 you totally reminded me that I need to order my pump still! Thanks!

@bluebell08 what Buckeye said that’s colostrum I have it too esp when in the bathtub it dries up on my nipples.

@chocolatelemons I’m in a similar boat to you I have only 23 days for my sick time to use on my maternity leave. A lot of our finances are going to fall on DH shoulders unfortunately. Luckily I do have some short term disability and we have been saving. But it is something that I think about too.

  • Due date:  3/3

Any appointments? Questions? My first appointment this month is on Friday. I went for my glucose test Friday and the numbers came back that I passed. But my other numbers show I'm slightly anemic, so I'm waiting to hear what that all means when I go Friday. I haven't noticed any symptoms but my numbers are below where they should be.

Rants/Raves? Rant: My MIL is narcissistic and she's been irking me more than usual. Yesterday DD went to spend some time with the ILs and came back with new PJs on and different socks. Immediately MIL takes the socks back and says she needs the PJs back too. She insinuated that I sent her in dirty socks and never send PJs to change her. Well if she got her home before bedtime like we asked, this wouldn't be an issue. As for socks, my kid is 4.5 and dresses herself; I have no idea what socks she wore yesterday! Raves: DH did all the housework over the weekend and I didn't have to do a damn thing but nap!

How are you feeling? Tired, achy, large. It's like it happened overnight. I'm having more Braxton Hicks and no matter what I do, by the end of the day I feel like I can't walk or that my belly is falling off. I'm just waiting for the crotch pressure to begin. It's going to be a long couple of months.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming? I have bought most things that we need. I have tons of stuff from when DD1 was a baby but I need to sort and launder things, which I plan to do over my Christmas break. DH is painting DD1s new room this week, so hopefully we can start moving her and setting up the nursery soon.

    @mayduck Yay for placenta!

  • Due date:  3/9 but c section is schedule for 3/4

Any appointments? Questions? I haven't checked in for a while due to my app being dumb but I've had a few appointments since the last time I checked in. My blood pressure has been being monitored a lot! I passed my glucose tolerance test with flying colors (YAY! )  But my Dr is still watching the BP. My next appointment is tomorrow to check everything again before I fly to Texas for a week.

Rants/Raves? MH is amazing. That's all I can say. He makes an effort to make me feel pretty even when I feel gross, which is pretty much all the time now.

How are you feeling? Tired. Super f-ing tired! I can't sleep very well at all because my hips hurt and I can't sleep on my back anymore. Carpal tunnel is kicking my butt too. Someone earlier mentioned crampiness... I'm there too. I actually went so far as to ask my best friend what contractions feel like because the cramps were kind of an ebb and flow feeling.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming?

I don't want to talk about this. Haha! I'll get around to it. He won't know if I don't have his crib set up until he's 3 months old. Haha

  • Add me to the anemia club. My iron levels were low at the start of the pregnancy but just below the threshold so my midwife just recommended a high-iron diet for me. I guess it wasn't enough because my levels have dropped so now she is recommending an iron supplement with orange juice every day in addition to an iron heavy diet.
  • @lalalauren15 @mayoduck I've looked into increasing iron in my diet because I realized my prenatal doesn't include iron. But I am interested to see what they recommend at my appointment Friday. What are some foods you have added or increase to help? I do not eat a lot of meat.

  • @novelblessings So I actually do have iron in my prenatal but that hasn't been enough either. One thing my midwife stresses is coupling high-iron foods with high-vitamin c foods (which help iron absorption). For non-meat iron rich options, my midwife recommended beans, dark leafy vegetables, dried fruit (such as raisins and apricots), iron-fortified cereals/breads/pastas, and peas.

Based on what I have been eating, I suspect not enough vitamin c may actually be my main problem so I am going to try to focus on increasing that for me.
  • Due: 3/2.

Appointments/questions: Have one next week. I'm on every other week now.

Rants: so annoying trying to do stuff with D around. Anything I'm doing, she's getting into it and making a mess. So if I want to sew, I can basically only do it during naps and after bedtime.

Rave: yay, Christmas! And I'm pretty excited because it's looking like my mom will be around when the baby is born. She won't be at the birth center (no one but H), but it will be so nice for the help with D while I'm in labor and delivering and afterwards. Other than that, I'd be relying on my sister, who is great and willing, but she has an infant of her own to take care of. I had a short labor and was only at the birth center a total of maybe 8 hours, but still, it was overnight and would just be harder for her, you know?

Feeling: Not bad. The aches and pains continue off and on. Lately, sitting against a heat pack has been helping the most. They seem to be worse on the weekends, which is annoying when I want to do stuff with H and D. We're planning to get a tree this weekend, we cut it ourselves, and I'd really like to not be in pain hiking through the woods.

GTKY: I don't have a lot. We don't have a nursery or anything. The stuff I do have to do, I have no progress on. :p I need to wash all the inserts in the bucket seat and wipe down the straps because they got some surface mold in storage, and I haven't done that yet. I need to finish some of my sewing projects like my baby wearing cover, and I haven't done that. I'm also considering sewing a shower cap car seat cover rather than buying, and I haven't looked into that much at all other than patterns. I just keep getting sucking into stuff for D. I made her mittens (which she needs), and now I decided to make her a dress for Christmas, so I'm working on that, lol!
  • @mayoduck Thanks for the suggestions. I was taking a prenatal with iron until about a month ago, so I don't know how big of role that has played. I don't eat cereal, bread, or pasta either. So I guess I'll have to increase intake with the rest of those options. I probably don't eat enough foods with iron....

  • @novelblessings agree with @mayoduck on the food/vitamin C recommendations. My doctor also said not to drink caffeine or eat calcium-heavy (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc.) within two hours of taking my supplement, as it could affect the absorption of iron. I was also recommended to not take additional iron supplements with my current prenatal. It's been difficult trying to time when to take all these pills. Haha.

@novelblessings What numbers show that you're anemic? I got my glucose results back which were normal and also got results showing that my RBC and hemoglobin levels were low while mean corpuscular volume was high. When I looked into this, it could be an indication of anemia but the midwife made a comment in the e-mail that contained my results saying that this is normal for my gestational age. I read a little about this and it looks like these numbers can change in pregnancy but the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration should be in the normal range (which mine was). Anyways, I don't really understand all of these number but I just wanted to pass along that even though some of my numbers said "low" or "high" that my midwife said it's normal so it's worth talking to your doctor about it to understand if there's really an issue!

    Due date: 3/1

Any appointments? Questions? I'm in the "appointments every two weeks" phase now so there's always an appointment coming up... I feel like these regular appointments are just a nuisance, but then I feel fortunate because the only reason I feel that way is because everything has been going really well in this pregnancy in terms my my health and the baby's.

How are you feeling? Ohhh nothing really new over here. Feeling overwhelmed trying to get work done while doing final wedding preparations. Blah. I'm excited to see certain people at the wedding but I honestly can't wait for it to be over! I was in a room full of sick people today and I'm getting really anxious that I'm going to come down with something right before the wedding... ugh.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming? Not bad, I guess. We registered for a lot of baby stuff for wedding presents and lots of things have been showing up in the mail. My partner started working on the nursery but he is obsessive and never does things the easy way so it'll be a while before it's done... The nursery is in a small room with no closet and he realized he could build a cubbyhole underneath a staircase so now he's working on that. Then he decided he wants to do decorative plaster instead of painting up so that's going to be a whole thing. I'm sure it will look really nice when it's done, but this house needs so much work aside from the nursery and I feel like he thinks we have more time than we really do!

  • @novelblessings My midwife wasn’t too concerned at my appointment last night. My levels weren’t super low, but low enough for the anemia diagnosis. I also haven’t had a ton of symptoms. Anyway, she recommended an increase in iron through diet. @mayoduck has a lot of great recommendations. I’m not sure if she mentioned it, but beans and nuts are great if you don’t eat a lot of meat.
  • @bug_hunter Thanks for the info. My RBC, hemoglobin, and hematocrit were all low.
@chocolatelemons Beans and nuts, now I can increase those. Thanks!
I'll again see what they say Friday about my numbers. I'm just super sensitive to anything out of the ordinary because of how third trimester went for me last time. I was miserable until they induced me, so I really hope there's nothing out of the ordinary with the rest of this pregnancy.

  • I think I mentioned this somewhere before, but I’m case I didn’t, 1c of Multigrain Cheerios has 18mg of iron. I eat a cup with my protein shake every morning becuase I can’t stomach the prenatals with iron.
  • @bug_hunter I feel you on the partner thinking there is more time than there really is!!! It's 3rd trimester tomorrow for me so it's really feeling like crunch time!

So far my DH still has to finish fencing our yard (there is like 15 ft left on each of the last two sides - - he got as far as looking up materials and cost. I'm half tempted to just hire someone. We have a 75 lb dog so this isn't optional once baby arrives) and also make me a glider (he wanted to start this with my dad in Sept - - they have the wood and pattern but have only cut a single piece. My dad is rebuilding his deck right now and expects to be done when the baby gets here and I'm like great, how about that glider?).

That's not to mention setting up furniture (which we don't have, but my MIL asked for a link to the crib we want this week) and moving a desk/adult book case out of the nursery, clearing out some accumulated junk in the nursery closet and adding shelves to the other room's closet (which will be a shared office) so we can get that room functional.

Oh yeah, and regular household chores like dishes and laundry and bathrooms and vacuuming - - oh wait, who am I kidding, I do those things!
  • Due date: 3/3

Any appointments? Questions? Follow-up appointment with the diabetes clinic yesterday to see how my blood sugars have been.

Rants/Raves? Rant is about my appointment and my blood sugars. Despite following my meal plan and exercising when I could, my blood sugars were still not ideal, including my fasting levels. They've decided to put me on medication. I asked at first to just go straight to insulin therapy since there are no side effects to the baby and the pills they proposed cross the placenta, but I did not meet the "protocol" for that yet. I didn't have enough "highs" and my weight isn't high enough apparently (first time I've heard that in a while). They mentioned that my stress levels due to my husband and my separation probably has a lot to do with not being able to keep my blood sugars in check. Not sure what more I can do about that outside of going to my counselor like I have been. Hopefully the meds will help and not cause any issues with the baby.

How are you feeling? Frustrated with my body for not being able to handle this pregnancy without needing medicinal intervention. Tired and achy and of course stressed.

GTKY: We’re heading into third trimester this week! How’s baby prep coming? I have the crib put together (minus any sheets, just the crib and mattress for now) and the glider in the nursery. I've bought a few decorations, it's Harry Potter themed, but haven't put anything up yet. My breast pump came in from my insurance a few weeks ago and I have the Owlet monitor as well. Other than that just a few onesies and such that my friends have bought here and there. Going to wait until after my shower in January before buying anything else.
