[Trying to Stay] Fit Mama Monday Dec 3

Hey mamas trying to stay fit! How’s it going this week? Staying active and staying on track? Eat anything extra healthy and delicious this week? Keep up the good work, and remember that every day is a new chance to do better!

Re: [Trying to Stay] Fit Mama Monday Dec 3

  • Trying and failing to keep moving. My toddler is draining all my energy. I’m trying to be a bit more cognizant of my diet leading up to my Glucose test next week, but all my snacks are either fruits or carbs. Trying to incorporate a good amount of veggies into dinner at least.

Lately workouts have meant putting up decorations, cooking dinner, or grocery shopping with said toddler. I did a 100m sprint to the grocery store restroom with DD1 today, does that count?

  • Made it to yoga the end of last week and grocery shopped Friday, Christmas shopped Saturday. Those trips wore me out with all the walking. Yoga is on break until January but I plan to drop in some classes the next couple weeks. Still trying to eat decently and make good food choices. I think I'm slowing down with movement, so I'm going to try and focus more on healthy eating.

  • Ugh, I was SO bad last week... literally managed one walk and 2 short yoga videos. And am not off to a good start this week. Between cruddy weather and having too much to get done, it’s just been easy to come up with a reason not to. Plus I’ve been way over indulging my sweet tooth.
Making a concerted effort to cook healthier for us this week and at least manage a few walks and work outs. Going to do better!!
  • @navete anything helps! Start small and keep at it
I just came back from my Fit4Baby class, it was so much fun! We did Christmas Bingo exercises (after each exercise you cross a specific image on the board - jumping jacks was a snowflake for example), then Jingle Pong (like beer pong, but with bells and empty cups - if you miss your team has to do a wall sit, and if you manage to get the bell in then the other team does the exercise written at the bottom of the cup) and finally Who Am I during bicep curls and planking. 1h passed by like it was nothing.
I'm doing bad in the food department though. I have low will power, so eventually I give in to sweets and carbs. That's what kept me from losing weight after I had DS. I guess I need to surround myself with healthier snacks...
  • @navete Little things can add up! Good for you!

I managed to keep my body moving this week, but I am really starting to slow down, (I know I say that every week!). I have been walking 2-3 miles every day, and I finally made it to the gym to start weight training. My goal is to weight train 3x this week.

I have been eating well for the most part, and I have been super into crunchy raw veggies dipped in blue cheese dressing this week. I am trying to keep my diet in check through the holidays, especially since they scheduled by GD test for New Year’s Eve, but some Christmas cookies are definitely going to happen this weekend!
  • @BuckeyeNut05 Yay! That’s great news!
  • @BuckeyeNut05 I'm sure that's a huge relief, congrats!

  • That’s awesome @BuckeyeNut05!
@maggiemadeit yumm, I always love blue cheese. I had several weeks where my go to afternoon snack was blue cheese dressing and wing sauce with celery!
  • I was not great last week. We didn't have a meal plan / many groceries and so we ate take out way too much. As a result I've got a healthy meal plan this week and am determined to stick to it. I don't want to gain a bunch of weight right before Christmas, since I'm sure to put on a few lbs over the holidays. As for moving - I need to get better. I went to prenatal yoga on Saturday and went for a walk at lunch time on Monday but it's back down to frigid temperatures / snowing today so no more outdoor walks for me for awhile! I'd better dust off my treadmill!
  • It’s been pretty cold here lately, and I can definitely feel myself falling into hibernation mode. In an effort to shake things up I tried a water fitness class at the local pool today, and it was so fun! It felt amazing to float and move around in the water, and I felt like I got a solid workout. I had been hiking or walking a fair amoun, but as I’ve gotten back bigger, my back and SI joint feel out of whack afterwards.
I’ve never been much of a swimmer in my adult life but I’d like to give it a try in addition to the water workout classes. Are there any lap swimmers here that could share some super-basic advice for a beginner? I can swim confidently, but have never done it in an organized manner if that makes sense. :)
  • @hlmtnmama there used to be a site I used to make swim workouts that takes your swim capabilities into account. I want to say it was called swim plan or something like that.

  • @hlmtnmama I used to swim competitively from when I was little though high school, and then throughout adulthood as a form of exercise. I am not sure about tips or tricks, but for me, what I found is the more efficient you are with your stroke (as with any sport), the easier and more enjoyable it becomes. Perhaps there are some stroke drills on a website that you could try as you go?  Swimming is wonderful!  I'm glad you're enjoying it!
  • I’ve been bad. For a long time. I’m getting back into it though. At the gym rn! DS starts SSD preschool next week after his birthday so I’m going to have 3 hrs a day four days a week to get some me-time activity in. I need to halt this weight gain.

  • I've been doing okay with working out. I've been keeping up with yoga at home, but I've been slacking on hiking during the weekends because we've been working on house projects instead of getting outside. This week has been good so far because I've done yoga everyday and made it to the gym Monday and Tuesday. Tonight we are putting together our new bed from Ikea so I won't make it to the gym. I'm hoping to get in some snowshoeing where we can take a picture for our Christmas cards over the weekend. I'm usually really good about cooking healthy meals and not snacking too much, but I definitely have a sweet tooth so I've been trying to be extra cautious about that since I'm not longer running and burning as many calories. I'm just happy that I'm still feeling good and have a lot of energy.
  • I’m in the process of moving, and have been traveling/in a hotel for two weeks. Still managing ok, though definitely off my routine. We found a temporary gym near our hotel in our new city, and I did a few hikes and runs during all the traveling after an extra day or two off recovering from a stomach bug or food poisoning at the very start of it all. Quickly made up for the calorie deficit too with all of the eating out - we’ve treated ourselves to some pretty extravagant meals, and have included dessert most days where I’d normally only have it on the weekends. But I’ve had an abnormal experience as far as weight gain goes, so I’m trying to just embrace it, and I’m probably closer to where I should be now. And our last hurrah is tonight since we move in tomorrow  - repeat of an amazing steak dinner with bananas foster for dessert 🤤
  • Here we go for the first workout since modified bedrest ended!  Running should be interesting since I barely got my shoes tied!
