@sleepy33 that might be the best UO I've seen in a while. Do you hate breakfast and lunch? You can just choose whichever you like and everyone wins. When I was living in SF, brunch was a way of life (but also $$$$).
I do think brunch is overrated. I definitely don't want to wait until brunch time to eat breakfast. I am starving in the morning and I don't like to combine two meals into one. I don't like mimosas either.
LOL yessss, I knew this would rile y'all up. My reasons are many:
1. It's always crowded af and I haaaaaate waiting at restaurants 2. I am starving when I wake up, I would either have to eat an unsatisfying snack upon waking up and then wait to eat, or just be hangry for hours 3. The whole damn day is wasted! If I'm not even eating a meal until like 11, then I've done nothing productive with my morning and by the time I'm done eating, it's afternoon 4. It disrupts my whole days' meal cycle. I end up not eating lunch and then I'm hangry by like 4 pm and it's too early for dinner yet
On the breakfast related subject, I hate Starbucks. It's overrated and overpriced. Their pastries suck, their coffee sucks. There are way too many of them. I'm convinced that it also sucks to work there because the one I do go to (when fetching things for meetings or whatever) constantly has new employees.

@sleepy33 did you ever like brunch? I was never a huge partier but my prime brunch days were when we had been out late the night before, woke up at 10 or 11, showered and walked to brunch. Nowadays, if I do brunch, it's with other moms and our babies after swim lessons or something like that and we've all eaten a regular breakfast at home lol. Or DH, DD, and I will go to what is basically breakfast (at 8am or something) but they serve the same brunch menu from 6am-2pm.
@peachy13 I can't say what it's like to work there as I never have, but I do know Starbucks provides IVF support (monetarily) to all of their employees, including baristas. And I just think that's awesome. And I love they had diversity training after the incident with the Black men who were hassled. I agree their coffee is bad but I love their fancy sugary espresso drinks. I don't get it often, 1x/week tops (budget stuff) but today I got a grande salted caramel mocha half as sweet with soy milk and no whipped cream and it was
@kvh22 I mean, sure back in the day, when I couldn't get my hungover ass out of bed before 11, brunch sounds great lol. But I rarely sleep past 7 these days. I don't really socialize much on weekends tbh, or if I do it's family stuff in the afternoons or evenings. Brunch also just really isn't a 'thing' among my social group. I have a girls night once a month with my besties sans kids. Weekends we're all just busy doing our own stuff.
@peachy13 I agree with you although I think it's a big UO. I got a Starbucks gift card as part of my baby shower from work with DD (a year and a half ago now) and still have only used it once or twice when out with my moms group who was going there. @DuchessOfCambridge I 100% agree...If i can get things less sweet, I will indulge in some of their other beverages but their coffee just tastes burnt. I've been on the decaf train for over a year and a half so it's not as fun but we have like 6 different ways to make coffee at home...I just can't recreate some of their beverages though so it's a nice treat once or twice a year lol.
@kvh22 yes! They actually do burn their beans so they taste uniform across all Starbucks. It's disgusting. I definitely need to get their drinks half sweetened, I'm not a huge sweets person so the full sweet level can make me feel sickly. I so wish I could recreate their salted caramel mocha and not spend the money!
And Starbucks drinks are over rated. Here there's a coffee stand on almost every corner, and they're SO much better than Starbucks about 99% of the time. There's one right down the street that is amazing.
@eatinwatermelonseeds agreed! We have tons of good coffee places here. My favorite is also a brewery. Not sure if there are any baseball fans but Kevin Youkilis opened a restaruant/brewery a quarter of a mile from our apartment a few years ago and then added a coffee shop the weekend DD was born. I'm off to meet my neighbor their now. I love local coffee shops!
I love brunch, except that when we go, it's at like, 9 am, and mostly we just eat breakfast food. So, I guess I actually love going out for breakfast.
When I was pregnant with DD2, I discovered that Starbucks' Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher was one of the few things that settled my nausea. But then I learned that hibiscus maybe isn't the smartest thing in early pregnancy, so I stopped getting it. But, I can agree that their coffee is meh, though our other option around here is Tim Hortons, which has even meh-er coffee, so... coffee at home it is.

I love going out to fancy brunch every once in a while. And we make brunch at home on the weekends often. Especially over holiday weekends when family is visiting. When we lived in our old town we would sometimes have a light, early breakfast then drive to Jasper for brunch. Jasper Park Lodge always has an amazing breakfast and kids 5 and under eat free so we justified our crazy expensive brunch that way. After brunch we would spend the afternoon in the mountains (ice walks or skating in the winter, hiking or glacier lake beaches in the summer) and come home after supper. Man do I miss those mountains 😞
When I lived close enough to go to family gatherings, my mom would often do "brunch" for holidays and it would be at like 1 or 2. I sure as hell can't go that late in the day without breakfast, and if I already had breakfast, why would I still want breakfast foods like eggs? It might as well be just lunch. She still does this and while I don't live there anymore, the thing still drives me crazy.
@sleepy33 I wasn't going to get on your brunch train, but your reasoning is spot on. There's a place in Seattle that EVERYONE recommends, and I just can't. I can't. The wait is like hour and a half, I found a grub in my food and was told it was "organic". Popular brunch places can kick rocks. They are so over-hyped everywhere. Brunch at smaller place is great.
@SpaceBurger I can get on board with that. I cannot stand sugar in regular coffee, and if I do get a fancy latte I always get it 1/2 sweet. There have been times where the black coffee I order through drive thru is really black with sugar and I can’t even drink it. If im close enough I turn back and return it, otherwise I just toss it. DH usually tells me to quit being a coffee snob but I seriously can’t even choke it back
@k2k2tog my OB said hibiscus was only off limits after 20 weeks as it promotes uterine contractions - so you aren't at risk of spontaneously going into labor the first half (unless you have some sort of other condition that would cause an issue, of course).

EW.
See, if organic means bugs in my food, lay on the pesticides. I think I've already done an organic food rant so I won't go there again.
Also, brunch. I guess now with a child I go either at 8 or at 11. 11 works out really well for us because DS has had his morning nap so he is in a good mood and I've already been up for hours doing things so I don't feel the day is wasted. If that makes sense.
So then you're really going out to early lunch @DuchessOfCambridge . Possibly with breakfast foods involved. And maybe that's also my thing, my breakfast really has to consist of some form of eggs and breakfast meat almost every day (only way to keep my hypoglycemia in check), so if I've already gotten up at my usual time and eaten my usual breakfast, I don't really want a second breakfast. My kiddo doesn't nap anymore. So we usually one day a weekend will go out to breakfast around 8, then go on about our activities.
@sleepy33 I could eat breakfast foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert That's just in response to your comment, not a UO since I think that's actually popular enough (although I'm sure not the majority opinion). I don't think brunch has to mean it's the first meal of the day. Just that breakfast and lunch foods are offered. While pregnant and BFing, I would get 2 meals, one sweet, one savory. DD doesn't BF as much and my caloric needs haven't risen yet so I still get 2 meals and just share with her. It'll be 3 meals between the two of us later in pregnancy, I'm sure

See, I guess I could go and get like a waffle or something, but then my blood sugar would just crash a few hours later and I'd be cranky. I *might* be tempted if it was a brunch buffet and I could get a plate of all kinds of things.
@sleepy33 I always choose really good brunch buffet places, not individual plates only. That’s the only way to do it, imo. Otherwise you really do have to choose, breakfast or lunch.
This conversation makes me want to go out for breakfast on Saturday morning. We stopped going out to eat pretty much entirely because my children are terrible in restaurants, but it's been a while so maybe they've grown up a bit and could handle a casual breakfast place? I do love it when someone makes me a fancy breakfast.

We don't go out to breakfast because DS is allergic to eggs. So pancakes, waffles, French toast, basically the reasons you go to breakfast, he can't have. I miss it though.
I hate store bought egg nog! So gross!! But Dh made some for Christmas a couple of years ago with alcohol in it. I believe it the recipe was by Alton Brown and it was so good!

Also, not sure if this is a UO or not, but I hate eggnog.
I can see people not liking eggnog. It's a very specific/strong taste. Eggnog and coffee are just meant for each other though
