@secicc12 ahh didn't mean to stress you out. Just saying, more reason to not spend $400 on ONE dress. Are you the MOH (I forget but that sounds possible)? If so, it's pretty normal for the MOH to have a slightly different dress. I only had 3 bridesmaids and my sister (MOH) wore a slightly different style in the same color. I told them they could all wear different styles but the other 2 liked the same one so it worked out. I mean, better for everyone if the rest of the bridesmaids don't have to spend that on dresses they hate but at least you'd be better off
@kvh22 Hahhh so true! I am the MOH, good memory. We're going to talk on the phone tonight, so I'm just going to be honest with her and say people just aren't feeling it. It's hard because other bridesmaids have hinted that they aren't a fan, and she's shut them down saying "this is the dress". Sooo we shall see. Appreciate all the advice!
It's such a bummer when bridesmaid dresses are expensive! The most expensive one I've had was $350!! They also tried to make me order a size bigger so they could do alterations.....efff that noise. I told them no I wouldn't sign off on that size, order my real size. Being a pregnant bridesmaid is hard! Especially because you just don't know what size you'll be. Hopefully she'll let you change.
@sleepy33 I've been waiting and waiting until my LO was old enough for medicine
LOL @SpaceBurger, I got some honey-flavored Robitussin thing, as the other choice was grape and it just sounded yuck to me. I gave him the little cup and told him to swallow it all fast, and said it was honey flavor. He took the shot, took a big swig of water, did a huge gulping sigh, grinned at me and said, "I hate it!"
@SpaceBurger I was where you are with the double strollers a month ago but it was driving me *so* crazy that I did an insane amount of research and picked one (I think). I basically have a $500 option and a $200 option but leaning toward the $500 option since it has so much more functionality and makes way more sense for the age gap. A couple comments over in the registry thread. That might be a good place to air your questions. I'm also planning to ask my old BMB since they have such a large number of STMs with experience using them now...but I haven't shared over there yet.
@SpaceBurger have you already checked this out? It's way narrowed down but still gives options with reasoning. I have an UppaBaby Vista so not planning on getting a double stroller
@SpaceBurger even as a STM? I feel like I need 3-4 items...and diapers. The stroller was the only big thing I was stressing about and I feel so much better now that I'm comfortable with my 2 options. The registry thread isn't very intimidating right now but it's only going to get worse.
I went to acupuncture yesterday and after doing the pulse reading, my doc declared that baby is probably a boy. That goes along with my initial hunch...now I've just got to wait until late December to confirm. Anyone have any oddly predictive declarations from people?
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm leaning towards the Vista I think since I love my Cruz. I'm going to browse that link though, thanks! @kvh22 Yea the only thing I need is a double stroller, so that's why I'm afraid to open the registry thread haha.
@secicc12 As a FTM due July 1, my winter coat fit zipped up until May. I also had severe depression barely ate and only gained 25 lbs the whole pregnancy despite eating ice cream every day. Then I proceeded to gain 25 lbs postpartum and have been eating like crazy this time. That same winter coat BARELY zips now. So I got a maternity coat knowing I will want to be outside playing with DD this winter (I also live in Chicago with brutal winters). I plan to sell it along with the maternity clothes I buy after this pregnancy. My guess is you will probably be fine if you are a FTM and the coat started out fitting ok.
@eatinwatermelonseeds Good luck to you on the house! That's got to be super stressful.
It's cold and rainy here in Chicago, today. Im on the road for meetings and am listening to XM's Christmas channel. It's actually enjoyable when it's cold outside.
I have the graco stand and sit. I love it for the age gap (3 years). It was not as helpful for newborn stage because it is big and bulky with the new born attachment (I wore the baby and used my single stroller when he was little) but 6 months plus it is awesome especially for people who do a lot of day trips. I love that my big kid can easily hop on and off and will be changing it to 2 benches soon. It is not for people with small cars however!
@secicc12 do you have a Buy Nothing Facebook group for your town? If you're not already in one, I would check. They're really wonderful, people give stuff away for free, you declutter your own house, and people lend things to each other all the time. I've gotten a lot of great stuff through it. I'm currently borrowing some stuff for DS's birthday party and - a maternity coat! I didn't want to buy one and I know my coat absolutely will not zip by the time I need it.
@secicc12 I would think you'd need one where you live. I bought one on clearance before I was pregnant just for visiting New England. But...if think you might not, you could try to hold out as long as possible. I feel like things go on clearance so early (January?) when they bring in the spring stuff. You also could check on Black Friday deals. I paid something stupid like $25 for this nice maternity pea coat on clearance. I still shouldn't have bought it since I can live in sweatshirts where I am, but I was not being rational at the time and it seemed like such a good deal.
@idt_48 I can’t tag you on my phone- but just wanted to say I went to a new agey massage therapist this weekend who read my energy and declared I was having a boy. She was right! Everyone else in my life have said girl. But after seeing her, I KNEW it was a boy.
I'm so anxious and frustrated over a friend's drama. I don't want to go into detail because it's not my business to share but I just am having a hard time being a good friend when I don't morally agree with anything that's going on.
I haven't had any weird predictions for boy/girl, but I wish someone would give me something. I'm not eligible for NIPT, and I won't have my anatomy scan until around the New Year. I contemplated doing a blood test myself, but a) it seems like a silly thing to spend money on when I'll find out soon enough, and b) I think I prefer the excitement of seeing it on an ultrasound rather than typed on a piece of paper.
I keep thinking its Wednesday! Very frustrating. I'm so glad that I am feeling better. I actually cleaned my kitchen this morning and scrubbed down some baseboards and door frames. You know all that stuff that you don't do when you are just trying to make it through the day.
Ivy: July 2010 | Stella: Dec 2012 | BFP#3: MMC at 11Wk's, July 2017 | Wyatt: April 2019 | BFP#5: Twin Girls due Sept 2020
@missy052819 Possibly, but for five weeks (or less, my anatomy scans have both been at 18 weeks previously) early I can't legitimize the cost. I waited for both before, I have no idea why it's making me so crazy this time around. Maybe because I have a pretty significant preference, which sounds awful, but I'd really like the chance to have a son.
@idt_48@chloe97@imrachellea Last time everyone was guessing boy except for my mom and MIL and we had a girl. People were literally rolling down car windows in parking lots asking if/telling me I was having a boy (we were team green so didn't know even when I was huge). It was pretty hilarious. I think some people are randomly much better at guessing than others. I'm obviously in no rush to know so can't necessarily relate but I find the guessing of others entertaining.
@chloe97 I had my first babe in July too, which was so nice not to need many winter maternity clothes. Maxi dresses were my jam! @kvh22@DuchessOfCambridge Great ideas about buying one used or scouting out black friday deals. I think my cousin even had one that fit over her bump, but wasn't technically maternity.
@imrachellea I totally feel you! I couldn't justify the price of testing nor the potential stress/anxiety I would feel if anything came back with mod/high risk. I'm also not a fan of elective ultrasounds so I'm holding out until the 20 week scan but I want to know!
@kvh22 that's wild that complete strangers had such strong opinions! It's totally a 50/50 shot though so I'm not taking anything too seriously...especially with stories like yours.
I've had a dream that I gave birth to a puppy so as long as I get a healthy human, I'm happy lol
TL;DR: Is it okay to ask your boss to only share your pregnancy news with her boss and peers? And if you have a potential plan to split up your leave, would you propose it right away (it benefits them IMO).
Sorry for the novel: I just figured out that our team all hands and holiday potluck are the afternoon the day before my 8:30am anatomy scan (at which I will be 18 weeks exactly so I can't move it up, even a day). I was hoping to wait to announce broadly until after the A/S but will be seeing my whole 50+ person team, including my boss (who I am planning to tell sooner).
I think I'm going to tell her on Monday (I'll be 13+3). Is it unreasonable to ask her not to share broadly? I think she can/should tell her boss and her peers it will affect - I will be out for a MAJOR conference although I would propose taking 12 weeks off, going back for 4 weeks, then take the remaining 6 to 12 weeks right after the conference. Also, would you wait to propose that leave plan until a little later or when you share?
In my opinion, the flu shot thread was still super on topic but whatever 😆
@kvh22 it's not unreasonable at all. It's your private medical info and you get to decide who knows it. You don't need to explain but if you want to, it's very reasonable to being up the anatomy scan. If it comes up, I would bring up the leave stuff at that time, but feel it out. I think I brought up what I wanted pretty early on so there were no surprises, but I was also asking to do something nice typically allowed by the company (WFH two days a week after maternity leave). If they agree to it, just get it in writing.
Last baby was a February baby it was -18 F with windchill of -35 F the night he was born so maternity coat definitely a necessity. I would check the Black Friday deals I got mine from old navy for less than 30$. The bonus of my maternity coat was that I was able to wear baby under the coat the whole next year I would just zip up to below his face it was awesome for getting out with him in the winter.
I am also a little anxious to find out what we are having I am happy with either I love my boys! But I know that dhs family is hoping for a girl, since there aren’t any on that side of the family. I have an ultrasound on the 15th for my SCH so wondering if we might find out sooner than later but otherwise it will be at the A/S right before Christmas and I’m ok with that too. Since we will get to see our families in person then.
@kvh22 I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask your boss to only tell those who need to know at this point. I might hold off for maternity leave for a future time maybe even suggest talking about it in a couple weeks rather than throwing it all at her at once, but it also probably depends on your relationship.
@mrsdee15 I love your post on the flu thread about unblocking MLMs. Have you heard of the facebook group "Sounds like mlm but ok"? I feel like it would be right up your alley
Tuesday confession: I posted my pregnancy on facebook today, partly to antagonize my SIL who is beyond apathetic about voting (as in she hasn't voted ever). So I put my voting sticker on my belly, took a picture of me pointing at it, and wrote "Beta' Casey can't cast her vote until May 2037. In the meantime, I vote for her." Majorly passive aggressive petty Betty over here.
@lovelybabybumpz NO I haven't heard of that! I'm going to look for it. But, I do belong to the Anti-MLM subreddit on Reddit. I lost a friend to an MLM (or rather she burned a bridge with one? Not sure how best to say it), so they grind my gears even more than they normally would.
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI, then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.
Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW, because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!
@eatinwatermelonseeds Just out of curiosity, what did you sell if you don't mind my asking? I used to buy jewelry from one (I have a skin allergy and it wouldn't give me allergic reactions, I just didn't know what I was dealing with).
