Re: Weekend Randoms 11/3

  • My instagram is feeling a little flat lately and I used to LOVE it. Who do you follow that’s cool, has a pretty feed, makes relatable instastories but isn’t annoying and fake?

  • @k2k2tog what kind of people do you like to follow? I like Extra Petite (Jean Wang) because I like the way she dresses and she was SO honest about pregnancy and postpartum life. The most honest I’ve seen yet.

  • @k2k2tog I like to follow TheRock. He's so genuine, funny,  and I love the relationship he has with his daughters! Makes me swoon

@k2k2tog I’m not a huge instagramer but I have added a few new ones to my feed.  I’ve followed Jillian Harris for a long time and I generally enjoy following her, but recently I started following her cousin Tori (@ fraîchenutrition).  JH definitely has a lifestyle that is unachievable for most of us and as such I sometimes find Tori a bit more relatable when she’s talking about affordable options, etc.  She’s also a dietitian with two little kids and I love to try her healthy, kid-friendly recipes.  They also both live in Kelowna and strive to shop locally and/or Canadian often so I love to see their opinions of smaller Canadian brands .  These two influencers definitely influence my purchases lately, lol.  I specifically sought out Fiasco Gelato (Calgary-made) after seeing it in a story and let me tell you, our family is not going back to ordinary Bryers again ;)

  • I slept in until 930. Thinking my husband took our DS and let me sleep....i roll over and my son is sound asleep next to me. 🤪#winning
  • I made cinnamon rolls this morning! ❤️ Comfort food city!

  • I was in labor during daylight savings 😂 my nurse was a bitch or else I'd say "my poor nurse had to work an extra hour that night." But my poor midwife did.

My husband and I had a fight last night. I feel like it was fueled a lot by my hormones but it was an important topic we've been struggling with a lot anyway. But it just really got out of hand. We resolved before bed, but does anyone else just wake up after a fight with what feels like an emotional hangover? We don't fight much, but it just feels terrible when we do.
  • It’s the weekend and I wanted to sleep in today. Instead I was up at 6:30 and at the soccer field at 7:45. I am not a morning person at all! We had a to wake up earlier than we do on school days!  :|

  • I follow Extra Petite as well. I also like Sara Parsons. She lives in the PNW and has a great sense of style, clothes and home. I have serious bathroom envy. She also has the cutest ducks. Yes I said ducks. They have this cute little puff of feathers on top of their heads and her dog also digs holes in her garden. Geez I sound like a stalker!

  • Totally off topic, but am I crazy for considering buying a cute hospital gown (or two)for labor & delivery? I always thought the idea was absurd and a waste of money because they're probably going to get messy, and the hospital provides them, and I wouldn't want to have to do laundry first thing when I get home. But I am seriously thinking about it this time around...

  • @k2k2tog it’s focused on a dog, but I love following thiswildidea on Insta. Super fun photos of an amazing dog and his owner. Every photo and caption is spot on. It always brightens my day seeing their posts.
  • I'm no help Instagram wise. I was big into the keto world for a while, my entire Instagram is pretty much just about that and I follow hundreds of keto dieters. My new Instagram page will not be all keto dieters lol. I do follow a good friend who recently started working on her makeup game. She's getting good fast, and it's pretty cool watching where she started to now. I have another friend (both of them are from my last pregnancy) who is huge into yoga. I will gladly share their pages if anyone is interested in those topics lol
  • I also follow TB on Instagram for random shit like this...

  • Ugh I think I'm going to cry a lot today. How do I have a 5 year old already?! 😭
  • I totally forgot about the IG account ... thats_inappropriate. She is hilarious. Moms with older kids might like her more because she talks about all the annoying things her kids do (they are school age). She is also on FB. I relate to a lot of what she posts, like about her kids arguing all the time. She did do an awesome video about Halloween and it compares current moms with the 80’s mom.

@brie_and_almonds I bought a really cute maternity robe for delivering DD and I’m glad I did bc I wasn’t counting on having a csection when I packed my bag and I couldn’t wear any of the pants I brought at the hospital. At least I had the robe to cover the back of my hospital gown. It also worked out well bc I wasn’t expecting a newborn photographer to come around and DD was swaddled in my robe and the pictures turned out gorgeous. I will wear it during this pregnancy too!

Eta link Baby Be Mine Maternity/Nursing Robe (S/M Pre Pregnancy 4-10, Isabelle) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018R6UEN6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1wD3BbRD3C3Z5 we of course chose the Hannah pattern since that is DDs name
  • @brie_and_almonds I don’t know about you but I was so hot during labor I was pretty much in nothing but a sports bra the whole time. I couldn’t stand fabric touching me so the hospital gown lasted about 30 seconds.
  • @chloe97 wow, what an amazing woman! So happy your family opened up to accept her into their lives!

@chloe97 Wow, that story is incredible! It sounds like the plot of a movie, and I would totally be crying too. Good for your FIL for building a relationship with his surprise sister!

On a much different note, that hospital robe is super cute. I hadn't even thought about the c-section aspect of things... I definitely couldn't wear the pants I planned on after my CS either. Of course last time I had everything packed in my hospital bag except for a shirt to go home in, so I had to wear a nursing tank and a cardigan I had labored in before going to the hospital... hoping not to make that same mistake again

@chloe97 Wow! What an awesome story!

@brie_and_almonds I would like to get my own hospital gown and matching gown/blanket for the baby. I didn’t have one with DS because I read so many people say it would just get gross and you’d throw it away anyway, but my hospital gown wasn’t destroyed after DS, so I’m thinking about it. I looked like an absolute train wreck after having him, and I’d really like to look a bit more decent somehow this time around. Here’s a link to one I was looking at. They also just had the gown.

Our old neighbor friends just had their 2nd baby yesterday, and she’s been sharing pictures on Facebook, and it’s making me so excited about adding this baby to our family. She was due with her first son at the same time I was due with DS, so we automatically had that connection, so seeing the 4 of them has me feeling all warm and fuzzy. That’ll be us in another 6 (whoa!) months!!! 😍
  • @brie_and_almonds I totally plan on getting a cute robe/hospital gown this time around. My delivery with DS was rough and I never changed out of my hospital gown my entire stay. I would have loved something with more comfortable fabric.
  • I ended up in the ER yesterday because my chest was tight and was struggling to breathe. My O2 levels were great but I was just having to work really hard. They did blood work, said im fighting something. That's so vague. They also gave me meds for the chest tightness and pure oxygen. Omg, that oxygen was heaven! I even fell asleep with it. I was sent home when I was stabilized.  But today,  I'm not doing so well.  No energy,  breathing hard, heart racing.  I feel kind of depressed, too. I asked husband to take me out to dinner. Hopefully,  I'll feel well enough by then.

  • I’m checking out all of your suggestions. Thank you! I used to attempt to break into the Instagram influencer world and kind of broke my feed by following a ton of crap. Now I could care less and I’ve been slowly unfollowing the garbage but I’m left with nothing but personal friends and family. Which is great, but I want Instagram to inspire me too, so... gotta fix it.

I’m pretty sure one of my oldest friends is angry/disappointed with me. We’ve drifted apart over the years, both physically (we moved a couple times and now live 3 hours away) and emotionally. With DD1 and DD2, she was on the list of people I made sure to tell before going social media official. But then we moved further away halfway through my pregnancy with DD2 and she has never made an effort to meet her and didn't respond to any of my efforts to stay in touch. I was kind of hurt when she suggested a Skype date to 'meet' DD2 about 4 weeks after she was born, but never responded when I asked her when she wanted to do it and told her all the times I was free. Anyway, I stopped trying. And today, after I posted our announcement on social media, she commented with a simple "Congrats", no period, no exclamation mark, nothing, which is so very out of character for her. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I'm kind of sad that our relationship is essentially over.

  • @k2k2tog Thank you!
It's hard to say what your friend is thinking or even what she may be going through.  Since you haven't talked in a while,  I would just give her the benefit if the doubt and not read too much into it.  Either way,  it's not like you guys are going to be seeing each other any time soon,  anyways. Why even waste your time worrying over that.  Im sure you miss her and I'm sure she misses you,  too. But her lack of enthusiasm and initiative tells me she's just got other things going on.

  • @expandcontract Oh, I've mostly come to terms with it. And I think I'm off that she's angry/disappointed... Just seeing her out-of-character lacklustre response made me realize that maybe she's come to terms with it as well, so our friendship is just... done.

I am definitely putting too much focus on a single word.

  • @brie_and_almonds I don’t think I’d want to labor in something pretty but would probably want to wear it after. I did bleed a lot during labor and my water just trickled for hours after they broke it. I wore my hospital gown pretty much the whole time but agree, it would have been nice to have something pretty to wear after when I didn’t want real clothes or even pajamas with pants but was over the hospital gown. They layered me in them, one over the front, then another one over the back.

@expandcontract ugh, I’m so sorry you feel awful again :( is there any possibility of you being able to have oxygen at home?

@k2k2tog personally, I think that’s a weird response. I have little patience for people who haven’t met DS unless they’d have to fly or drive far so I’ve let a lot of friendships fade. Still, “congrats.” is a weird response IMO and seems passive aggressive. She could have just liked it 🤷‍♀️

As a side note I’m one of those people who never stopped caring about her modesty the entire time and I was always like KEEP ME COVERED. So many people told me I wouldn’t care and I definitely cared. It was pretty upsetting during pushing and then again during my csection because I was so aware and upset over how naked my bottom half was. I didn’t sweat during labor somehow, but I did make H put the temp as low as possible so I was comfortable and not sweaty but he was freezing 😂😂

  • @expandcontract Hope you feel better and can have an enjoyable dinner tonight!
  • @expandcontract Ugh you just are having it rough! I’m so sorry you are struggling so much!
  • @brie_and_almonds I didn’t have anything special when I had the girls. I was really hot while in labor and just wore the hospital gown. With my second I put on comfy clothes the next morning. But this time I think I want to get a nursing nightgown and robe.

  • I've considered a gown, but I wore comfortable black yoga pants. I want to see if I can find them again because they didn't have a tight band. They would've worked okay with a csection as they were pretty loose. They were also black, as I mentioned, which worked very well because I bled through A LOT. I probably won't get anything fancy. I labored in a sports bra and basically just wore a sports bra and black pants my whole stay.
  • @expandcontract girl, you cannot catch a break! Healing prayers coming your way!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge it felt a little passive aggressive to me too. But we were so close once upon a time that just liking the post also would have felt a little off, if that makes sense? But she had a myriad of other options that wouldn't have raised my eyebrow while also not being overly friendly if she is really at the point to decide that we aren't really friends anymore. I mentioned it to DH and he thinks it's way out of character and odd for her too, so getting his validation was helpful. He's always really good at giving people the benefit of the doubt and seeing situations in different ways.

  • @expandcontract I'm so sorry you're going through this. Please don't push yourself too much, and I'm sure your doctor gave you parameters to come in-- please do so as much as you need to. I also completely understand needing to get out and do something, it can be really depressing to feel limited. Please just know your limits. I'm thinking of you, lady. I really hope you catch a break soon.
  • @expandcontract I’m sorry you are having such a difficult time. Really hope it improves in the second trimester.
