How many kids do you already have? Ages? 4: SS 12,
    DD1 4,
    DS1 3,
    DS2 1

How are your other kids doing this week? We have been having a pretty good week. Halloween and costumes were a blast and my daughter after having some really tough struggles adjusting to pre-k has been having a really good couple weeks and we had a great parent teacher conference on Thursday. I actually feel like I can kind of do this parenting thing

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

Raves: today is stock morning. I save vegetable clippings from cooking (tops and discards from things like onions, celery, peppers, sometimes bones or leftovers from a chicken or roast) and make broth/stock. My stomach has been feeling off and it has smelled so good simmering I have been able to eat a bunch of little snacks as it is perking up my appetite. I may need to increase my clippings and do this more often.

Questions: we are thinking about get regular/full time help with the kids and animals. We have been kicking around getting an au pair or live-in help to make things easiest but that thought creeps me out a bit (hand that rocks the cradle comes to mind lol). Has anyone gone down this road or have experiences from others they can share? Good or bad?

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? We won’t tell them until we are ready for them to announce it to the world, which will probably be around Christmas.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS 1.5 years old

How are your other kids doing this week? He is congested and having trouble breathing through out the night so it's taking a toll on all of our sleep. Hoping his congestion clears up soon. 99% sure he inherited my allergies. Sorry dude.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Question: How do you guys get your toddlers to sleep for bedtime? Drop them in their crib and they go to sleep on their own? Rock to sleep? etc. Right now, we rock to almost sleep every night. Or to complete sleep. Between getting his diaper changed, reading two or three books and then rocking bedtime takes 30-45 minutes. And some nights an hour. I can't imagine having all that time when there are two littles in the house. And I can't imagine rocking him to sleep once we transition to a normal bed. Looking for any advice/suggestions/if you used to rock to sleep and don't anymore help.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? He doesn't really understand but we did tell him there's a new baby coming. Now he just likes to go around saying "baby" in the cutest voice.
  • @Dcwtada, we had an au our growing up. Her name was Heidi and she was our Mary Poppins. 25 years later and I’m still very much in contact with her. She was a total life saver for my mom and she is very much a part of our family still, even though she lives back in Norway now.

    Current W+D and EDD:
6+5/22nd (appointment to confirm all that on Tuesday)

How many kids do you already have? Ages?

How are your other kids doing this week?
The twins are solid. Very little bothers them, they’re very laid back and independent. My oldest is having a rough couple week. He’s been on and off throwing up since last Monday. Not consistently (sometimes a couple days passes between episodes) and has no other signs of being sick, but this is starting to worry me, so he’s headed to the doctor today to check him out. In the mean time, I kept him home from preschool and he’s hanging on the couch watching Curious George. Other than that, we’re fine. We had an awesome Halloween.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
Excited and nervous for my upcoming appointment on Tuesday. That always makes things feel more real in the first trimester for me. My husband has jumped in with both feet and wants to tell the world and I just want to see a heartbeat before I really absorb this as happening. In other news, My mom had sharp stomach pains yesterday and went into the ER - at 60, her appendix has given up and she has to have it out. I’m so relieved the caught it before it ruptured and that it’s an easy fix, but it’s so scary to me that it happened at all! And I’m very glad that the nausea seems to have let up in the last 48 hours because my husband is headed out to sea for a couple weeks shortly and the idea of solo parenting 3 kids 3 and under while also feeling like death warmed over was and also trying to hide my pregnancy from family was...unappealing.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?
I don’t think we’re going to bother doing much with the twins - they’re 16 months old, so it’s not really something they’re tracking. My son, though, is so excited about his cousin that is due in a week and every time he sees my sister, he points to her belly and says “Baby Isla is in Aunt L’s belly!” so I think we’re going to try to teach him to say there’s a baby in mommy’s belly to announce to family, and go from there. It’ll be interesting to see if he understands that aunt L’s belly is the same as the baby that’s born in a couple weeks. That will give us a measure of how much he’s tracking for this pregnancy.

How are your other kids doing this week? DS has some molars coming in. So chompy!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I just want to sit on the couch and watch movies because I feel blah. DS is happy watching Mickey Mouse for awhile, but he wants to play after awhile.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? We told him, but he doesn’t really understand right now. We bought him a big bro shirt for announcing
  • Current W+D and EDD: 5+2 July 2nd (but delivering in June via RCS)

How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DD who will be 5 in January.

How are your other kids doing this week? Good! I've been pretty sick this week so she has stayed home from school to "take care of me".

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nothing much right now:)

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?  My DD very adamantly does not want a baby. She LOVES being an only. She overheard my saying something about being pregnant to SO and got really upset and said "You're joking right?". Yep. I'm trying to figure out a way to just show up with a baby one day without actually having to tell her:/ Sigh.
  • @runyogamom My DD used to nurse to sleep and then rock to sleep. She was a terrible sleeper. When she got older we started reading and then turning the lights off and singing a few songs. When she got used to the routine she learned to put herself to sleep. It took a long time though. We also bed share and have since she was 6 moths old when the crib became the devil. As did sleep:/

I should add though that my DD did not start sleeping well until she was around 3.5 years old. But now she's the best sleeper in the world!
  • Current W+D and EDD: 5+6/June 28th.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2. DS is 4 and DD is 2.5.

How are your other kids doing this week? They're great. They are so close and such great friends. And this will be our first holiday season where they're both old enough to understand and participate. I can't wait!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? To all the moms who already have 3 - how is it?? I think it will be amazing when they're older, but it I'm worried about this one being left out a lot because of the age difference.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? We haven't told them yet. We'll tell them before we tell anyone else, but I want to wait till we're out of first tri.
  • @runyogamom - I will give you both of my experiences. DS1 I nursed and rocked to sleep every night until he was like 2. He was a horrible sleeper and did not sleep through the night until probably 3 or 4. DS2 was put in his criB awake every night from a couple weeks on and I did not rock him at all. He was the best sleeper and slept through the night at 10 weeks +. FF to today, DS1 is much more loving than DS2. I have no clue if sleep patterns in early weeks mattered, but sometimes I feel like it did!

    Current W+D and EDD:
    6+5/22nd

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    2 Kids
    DS - 6
    DS - 3

How are your other kids doing this week?
It has been a great week. There has been an incentive at school for reading, so DS1 has been wanting to read more, which I love! Both boys have been so loving this week and making sure they tell me how much they love me!

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
Excited and nervous for my upcoming appointment on Friday the 9th. DH can't come because he has a shift that day.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?
We have not told them yet. They would let the world know a little sooner than I would like. I also, am trying to avoid telling work for as long as possible, so I will tell the kids probably at Thanksgiving if our appointment goes well next week.
  • @klmcguire and @Panaceia thanks for the info! DS sleeps great though the night (as long as he's not congested/teething/ill etc.) it's just the bedtime routine that is frustrating.
My plan is to do the same with the second as you did klmcguire and hope that we don't have a repeat of rocking to sleep for so long every night. That's interesting that your first is a lot more affection though! Something to think about for sure.
  • @runyogamom I'm sure there is no correlation and that he has just always been so much on the go and try to be as big as big brother, so he didn't have time to cuddle and love me as much haha! Still interesting to think about.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS is 2 (25 months)

How are your other kids doing this week? My little guy loved Halloween!  I was so pleasantly surprised how he lasted all day with all the sugar and minimal tantrums. Daycare had a little party and it was interesting to see him with the other kids. They seem to have more of a let the kids figure it out themselves more than I realized.  Then we had a fun party at my complex and actually went trick or treating with three other families with little ones.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?  Rant:Ugh, finding my parenting lacking right now. H is stepping up with that but then dropping the ball elsewhere. I think we need to focus of food. We have had a lack of intimacy.  I’m the initiator in our relationship and so tired and gassy after DS’s bedtime. Rave: DS has been playing with his baby doll a lot more recently, ah so adorable.

Concern/Question: I guess I really am just having a hard time having him be careful with my belly.  He snuggles a lot and wiggles so this means a ton of knees and elbows. Then he will also sit on my belly.  I don’t know what is too much, so far nothing has concerned me but when the baby is bigger and farther out of the pelvis I will be. I’ve been redirecting him and telling him what not to do but it really doesn’t stick and I’m not sure he is capable of getting it. Sorry for the ramble non-exact question.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?

We have told him but he doesn’t get it. With his pregnancy and now this time we watch the weekly what baby is doing video with him.  He has never said baby before but knows what one is. I’d like him to understand but don’t want to push it yet.  I think around Christmas time or when I’m really showing I’ll buy him a book to help explain. I’m debating on taking him to the anatomy scan, will reevaluate later.

@runyogamom Our routine is a few books, rocking to a few songs I sing and then lay down awake. I've had to be strict and not rely on him falling asleep on us.  I feel like I need the backstory. DS for the first two months of his life would only sleep for up to 15m if he was not being held.  He was beyond a bad sleeper and extremely easily simulated. We started sleep training at 5 months and it was the best decision ever for him. Now, he took till a year to sleep through the night, we still got him here and there. I think it was about 1.5 he went through a party time in the middle of the night and wanted a snack, which we did but kept it quick and then let him cry.  He just doesn't fall asleep on us for the most part for a year.  He is also one of the most affectionate and snuggly two-year-olds I've seen. I do not believe sleep routines affect that part of personality.
  • Current W+D and EDD: 5.2, EDD July 2nd (not even a little confirmed by anything)

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS 16 months

How are your other kids doing this week? He's doing good. He goes back and forth with being independent and being a barnacle. I am starting to try to get him to walk alongside me instead of me having to carry him, and pushing the independence thing a bit more. I only have 8 or so months until he can't just have me all the time, anytime he wants so.... I have to do something. I'm calling it "Big Brother Training". To make myself feel better, it's not like he has any idea.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Like @jhems776, I'm concerned about the elbows and feet in the stomach. I am also SUPER concerned about baby actually getting here. As previously mentioned, this kid is ATTACHED to me. Still doesn't much go for my husband, and definitely is not a fan of anyone else. It's probably my fault. We don't live around family, and since we recently moved here, we really don't have friends either, especially not come over the house regularly friends. So it's not like he is regularly exposed to other people, and I have almost exclusively stayed home with him. My husband says that most of the time when I'm gone longer than an hour, it turns into a whine-fest looking for me. I have no idea what we are going to do when I go into labor. And worse, idk how DS is going to react to another baby who needs my attention.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? So, DS was kind of there when I found out. I was just home alone with him and taking a test mostly for fun and because I was wondering where the F my period was. And boom. So when I started crying and freaking out he was right at my feet XD. However, the kid has no idea. I am going to bring him to the ultrasounds and apts. (because I don't have a choice). I am also going to get a baby doll once I'm a bit further along and sort of "practice" having another baby so he gets used to it. And hopefully learns to be gentle.

@jhems776 I'm concerned about the feet and elbows etc. etc. too. I would rather nothing ever touch my stomach EVER when I'm pregnant, but I don't really have that option now. My toddler is a super snuggle bug and mama's boy, so I'm just doing my best to keep him gentle and block my stomach. I don't know what else to do.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?

    2 daughters: 4 & 2

How are your other kids doing this week?
Good. The little one refuses to nap but knocked out this morning after it all has caught up to her. The older one is in school which makes her and me both happy.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
I hate being sick. That is all.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?
I will tell them but it has to be closer to the 12-week mark when we’re ready for the world to know. They are going to be excited 😊
  • Current W+D and EDD: 8w6d, June 7th

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is 3

How are your other kids doing this week? DD has been clingier than usual which has been really hard, but otherwise good.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I’m feeling mega mom guilt about not being as active with DD as I was before. :(

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? We finally told her because I didn’t want her to feel like I wasn’t holding her because I didn’t want to. We just said, “Mommy can’t pick you up because of the baby in her belly. We have to be gentle with the baby.” She just stared at me for a while then lifted my shirt and asked “Can I see the baby?” 😂
  • @jhems776 @tuxielove93 When I was just over 6 months pregnant with my daughter I had an accident at work, broke my ankle and my shoulder and fell very hard right on my belly. It took the entire weight of the fall. When they did the US at the hospital baby was totally fine and completely oblivious. I freak out over the smallest knocks to my belly but I did learn that baby is surprisingly protected in there. At least up to 6 months anyways:)
  • Current W+D and EDD: 9+3/ June 3rd

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 4 ages 16, 4, 2, and 1

How are your other kids doing this week? They are doing good. The only hiccups I'm having are sleep issues with my 2 and 1 year olds. The 2 yo is scared of the dark and the 1 yo forgot how to sleep after the Roseola and teething.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My rant is that I just want my energy back. I need to be able to get off the couch again.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? I just told them that I have another baby in my belly. They were so excited and DD1 likes to talk to the baby. She tells me all the time it's a girl. I think it is too based on how my symptoms have been. It's very typical of a girl for me. I have had no glow and I glow from day 1 with a boy.
  • @runyogamom DD (2.5) has never been a good sleeper. We co-slept until she was about 8-9 months and then we would have to rock her to sleep before laying her in her crib. When she was almost 2 I got rid of her crib and put her in a full size bed, on the floor - no frame. We would then rock her for a bit and then lay down with her in her bed til she fell asleep. Eventually we got to where she didn’t need to rock but wanted us to lay with her until she fell asleep. Within the last 6 months she has finally got to the point where she will fall asleep on her own. We read a story, then lay there for 2-3 minutes and then leave the room. Our going to bed time has gone from 1-2 hours to 5-10 minutes. I will add we tried many methods of sleep training and nothing worked, it just took her time. So good luck, it’s exhausting but so worth it when they figure it out!

    Current W+D and EDD: 9 + 0 June 6th

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 DD 2.5years old

How are your other kids doing this week? On a sugar high. Lol, she doesn’t typically get much candy and this week with Halloween she’s been doing laps around me. Other than that she’s the same old ornery girl she normally is

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I wish I had more energy to play with her. We’ve been watching a lot of tv/movies and coloring. The colder weather doesn’t help since we can’t get outside

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? Will not be telling her until we are ready for everyone to know. She has just recently started asking for a baby brother so I think she’ll be excited....if it’s a baby sister, not so sure 😂
  • @runyogamom This is probably not the best help, but we ended up sleep training around 6 months. DD was a TERRIBLE sleeper before that. We didn't night wean until later (maybe 11 months) so she didn't consistently STTN until then. For us, it was so hard but worth it 1000%. But at this age, I think it would be even harder bc they're more aware and can talk! I hope you find something that helps. I've recently gotten back into the habit of rocking her to sleep and I know it's going to come and bite me in the ass one of these days. But DH is going to be in charge of bedtime when new baby comes.

    Current W+D and EDD: 6+5/ June 22nd

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 DD 17 months (almost)

How are your other kids doing this week? SHes been great. She totally refused her halloween costume, but we had a fun time handing out candy. It was cold and rainy. She's been super cute this week and shes just such a fun age.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I'm totally phoning in the parenting these days. Lots of Puppy Dog Pals and "independent play" aka I sit on the couch and she runs around making a huge mess. DH has been really good though in helping pick up my slack. I'm just sooooo tired.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? We talk about it with her, but obviously she doesn't get it at all. So we'll see.
  • Current W+D and EDD: 8+5/ LMP June 9

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2 children, 5 and 2

How are your other kids doing this week? Both of them seem to have forgotten how to listen. They are pushing every single button and I'm getting extremely frustrated. Thank goodness they are off to Omas house tonight for the weekend so we can get some painting done. I think I'm ready for a break.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I miss coffee. I was fine up until this week and now everytime I have a sip I get nausueas. It sucks because I'm up at 5am every day 😞

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? My husband blurted it out within minutes of me taking the test. My 2 year old understands but doesnt at the same time? She forgets theres a baby all of the time lol. My son is extremely excited. He said if it's a boy he wants to share his room with him and get bunk beds.
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS 2

How are your other kids doing this week? He is good. I think his teeth are shifting or something because he has been a little extra whiney and hitty .

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? He is doing really well in his big boy bed. He still gets up every once in awhile but if we tell him to go back to bed he does. He is just an early riser which kills me. 5 am every day no matter what time he goes to bed.

GTKY:how did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? He has no concept. We talk about it in front of him but he doesn't get it .
  • thanks for all of the responses @ShadeofGreen816 @nmbrcrnchr1 and @jhems776 . Glad to know we aren't the only ones rocking to sleep at some point at least. Last night was another hour long bedtime trial. It's worse right now because he's congested. I just don't want to be rocking a five year old to sleep one day. :joy:

@nmbrcrnchr1 I am hoping to be able to do what you did with your DD when we transition to a bed (on the floor like you did as well). It's reassuring to know it worked for someone else. I'm nervous about the switch to the bed on the floor eventually but if we can transition out of rocking to sleep when we do it then it should be worth it! Thanks
  • @runyogamom We transitioned to a floor bed too. It was magical! I slept there with her but DD loved it and once she fell asleep I could get up and get things done and in the mornings get ready for work and she loved feeling like a "big girl". We just transitioned to a real bed with a bed rail a couple of months ago but she's almost 5 now.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?  DS will be 2 on Sunday (bawls)

How are your other kids doing this week?  He's good!  We had a busy weekend, plus the time change, but he seems relatively unfazed by it.  He's finally getting over a nasty cough, too.  I'm sure it's just in time to catch the next virus of the week at daycare.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?  I am going stir crazy waiting for my first appointment!  They're not seeing me until a day before I turn 10 weeks!  This is even worse than last time when they didn't see me until 8 weeks.  Plus I won't get an u/s until 12 weeks.  I forgot how much I despise the waiting in 1st tri.  At least it's going by faster this time, since I have DS to occupy my time.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?  I'm not really sure he'll get it.  He's big into babies right now, but I don't think he'll understand that I'm growing one.  We don't want to start telling him just yet because I don't want him to accidentally out me before we tell people.  He's a chatter box right now and absorbs information like a sponge.

How are your other kids doing this week? Crabby, crabby, crabby.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Between my children spending the weekend at my MILs so we could get some painting done, and this time change, my children have become demons. As much as I love having the little break when they are gone, I completely regret it. Every. Single. Time. They come home and they are complete a-holes.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? My husband told both kids as soon as we got the plus sign on the stick. They are both coming to my first prenatal today, and we have been letting them tell close family that were having a new baby. Also when we do our social media announcement it will be a picture of them announcing.
  • @meatballs37 It doesn't have to be too good to be true!  My kiddo has consistently loved going to bed for at least a year now.  He asks to go to bed now and happily stays there for 11-12 hours every night.

  • @meatballs37 My two year old loves bedtime too!  He's still in his crib, but he'll lie down on the kitchen floor and say "I so sleepy" and ask for his warm milk and monkeys.  Fx your DD keeps it up!

  • @shamrocandroll @bakerstreetboys it is this false sense of accomplishment, when our tots sleep at night, that makes us want more babies isn’t it? 😆

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 little girl who turns 2 in February

How are your other kids doing this week? My daughter has been a little extra clingy to me specifically but she is such a treasure

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Going through "Second child guilt"....and then guilt about feeling second child guilt lol. Ugh the hormones....

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy?
I have told my daughter there is a baby in my belly because she likes to run full force into me to grab her, but because I am short she nails me right in the belly, so I tell her be careful of the baby in mommy's belly and ask if she wants to give the baby a kiss instead. she is too young to really grasp the whole thing....but she has been extra clingy to me and today while I was laid up on the couch....she tucked me in with the blanket and snuggled up and fed me some of her fruit lol. She has a baby doll that she takes care of (feeds her, rocks her, kisses her, and puts her to sleep) so I am trying to encourage that. When we have our prenatal on the 19th I wanted to bring her for the ultrasound portion so she can hear the heart and look on the screen. I know she won't understand but I want her to be a part of everything too. She is such a smart little girl and she absorbs every single thing that goes on.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS is 22 months (almost 2)

How are your other kids doing this week? So last night DS unzipped his footie pjs and took them off and then took off his diaper. He didn’t even wake up. He just cried because he was cold and peed all over his pjs, blankets, and stuffy. Also I can’t get DS to keep his hands out of his diaper when he’s playing. Not the front, down the back...

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Ranting about how DS is doing...and wondering if anyone has any experience and ideas on how to prevent it.

GTKY: How did/will you tell your kids you are pregnant? How are you including them in your pregnancy? He’s young, he didn’t really understand.

@catmommac I had this problem really bad with my son. Almost every night. I ended up getting him a couple halo wearable blankets/sleep suits and put it over his pajamas backwards so he couldn’t reach the zipper. Saved me changing sheets everyday
