  • @lemieuxk I would be interested in a high risk check in. Welcome and thanks for joining in!

  • My DD just had a Daniel Tiger themed birthday party, she loves that show. I started out by showing them the original inspiration of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood (best show for kids, ever!). Now they watch both. I love his song, "It's you I like". I regularly sing DT's song for remembering to go to the potty to DD because although she is trained, she frequently gets too busy or distracted!

@lemieuxk I'll join you in a high risk thread. Been high risk for so many pregnancies... I can sympathize with you.

@maggiemadeit that is the sweetest story ever!! <3

  • My random, long story, but I thought it was funny. I took my biweekly trip to town yesterday, we live in the country and try to consolidate time in town so that we don’t waste time/gas running back and forth all the time. This was the first time I’ve done it looking obviously pregnant and the reaction of all the different clerks cracked me up. Even though I’m not on a weight restriction, my husband asked me to please ask for help with the lifting and I obliged even though I think he’s being a little silly.
First stop, 1 gallon of paint, the clerk insisted on putting it in my Jeep.
Next, the feed store where all the staff know me well. I got all 4 forty-fifty pound bags of feed onto the dolly but then asked for help loading them into my Jeep. The clerk wasn’t enthusiastic to help so I explained that we are having twins and my husband made me promise so he did eventually help.
Last was groceries. They were busy so I had to help bag, and I was sort of having a hard time negotiating my belly around the narrow aisle and the cart. I got totally out of breath and was pretty incredulous that they didn’t ask one of the baggers on the next line over to help me, but I didn’t say anything.
I guess I just thought it was funny how different people responded in similar situations! I had a couple of other errands too, and I know it’s only going to get harder... I was pretty wiped out when I got home.

  • So today I had a regular dental cleaning, where they told me I have pregnancy induced gingivitis, yay. I bought the toothbrush they recommended and when I got home I plugged it in and then immediately ate like 4 pieces of gluten free toast with different toppings. No regrets.
  • I am LOVING this World Series, but the games don’t start until 8pm and my pregnant self cannot stay up past 9pm. I am missing all the action! They clearly were not thinking of the old pregnant ladies when they scheduled this!
  • @maggiemadeit this is so sad, I didn’t even know the World Series had started or who is playing. I don’t think I watched a single baseball game this season.  :'(

  • After a late night DD woke up at 7, but is now back asleep and I’m wide awake! It’s not fair!

  • @mschanandlerbong1214 eggnog latte lovers unite!  :D
  • @maggiemadeit That's really sweet and thanks for sharing! It's great to remember that not everyone's an a-hole.

My partner was home for a night and we went to a show for a band we've both liked for a really long time. He asked a bartender "what drinks do you have for a pregnant woman who really misses alcohol?" and the bartender looked confused for a second, then responded "Well. She could have a bottle of water. And more sorrow." and walked away. Then I stood up for a minute to see the band better and my stool was instantly snatched so I stood the whole time with my feet, hips, and back killing me. I tried to stick out my stomach as much as possible but no heroes came to my rescue. Nice to know they're still out there though!
  • @bug_hunter wow, what a bitchy response! FWIW I discovered a couple good ones this weekend, orange juice and ginger ale, orange juice and cranberry, and cranberry club and ginger ale.

  • @meggyme haha yeah. It was so bitchy that it crossed the line into comical. I think I'm starting to realize that there's a group of people that actually hate pregnant women.

And thanks for the drink suggestions! I have no idea what to order at bars and restaurants when I want something besides tea or water. There are a few places that have special 'mocktail' lists which is always fun but most of the time I ask a waitress or bartender what kind of non-alcoholic drinks they can make they just kind of shrug and say "soda?". I'm going to play around with some mocktail recipes for my own wedding and I'll post anything good I come up with...
  • @bug_hunter ugh what a**holes! I think you’re right, there are people who despise pregnant women. While I’m sure they have solid reasons for their dislike, seems like a miserable existence (also, do they not realize that they are walking around because their own mother went through pregnancy with them? lol)

As far as non-alcoholic drinks, I find most juices with sparkling water hit the spot, especially the more concentrated ones like pomegranate or cranberry juice. Cranberry juice + sprite/ginger ale is a favorite holiday drink of mine, so I’ll probably be indulging in that this season.

I also had a sparkling non-alcoholic rose a few weeks ago and it was soooo good. Tasted so real I had to ask to see the bottle to verify it wasn’t alcoholic. It was Welch’s sparkling rose I think. I’ve yet to look for it at the grocery store though.

If anyone else has good mocktails, please do share!
  • @bug_hunter I’m sorry, that’s so rude! And I can’t believe someone stole your seat!

I agree with the cranberry and soda water, but on a special occasion I will ask for a Shirley temple. It makes me feel like I am 5, but they taste so good and they come with the little cherry so I feel fancy!
  • @bug_hunter what a ridiculously rude response- you would think they’d at least think to do a juice & soda!?
I second the Welch’s rose- it’s fantastic. Also a big fan of ginger beer, lime and grapefruit juice- taste a little like a Moscow mule!
  • Thanks all! I'll have to look out for this Welch's rose and maybe bring a few bottles to the wedding to have with dinner for myself and other non-drinkers.

@lelkcot I'd never think about mixing ginger beer and grapefruit juice together but sounds like it could be interesting!

Being pregnant has definitely made me more cognizant of how difficult it is to be a social adult without booze. I used to get excited when I'd go somewhere and would be surprised that they had alcohol. Like, "woah, they're serving hard apple cider at this pumpkin patch? awesome!". Now my reaction is more like "do people really need to be drunk all the time to have fun?! how pathetic!". Ridiculous, I know, haha
