What my pregnant self is eating/craving/making/baking FALL EDITION

I think was weekly at some point, but I haven’t seen one in a while.

What is everyone eating and craving these days? Cooked or baked anything amazing recently?

  • @mayoduck I have all the things for that! I might have to make some since I’m running out of chai tea.

  • @lelkcot those look delicious!
  • @mayoduck I’m so sad my grocery store hasn’t had any apple cider. (I know I could make my own with apple juice, but it’s never quite as good)
  • All things pumpkin and squash! Pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, butternut squash soup, spaghetti squash, stuffed acorn squash, etc  :)
  • DD and I just made pumpkin muffins about a week ago and, sadly, I just ate the last one. Not sure what we'll be baking next. I'm making spaghetti squash tonight to mix in with the regular spaghetti noodles and trick the kids into eating squash!
Does anyone know if Panera Bread Co. serves soup by the quart? I had a bowl of their squash soup about a week ago and looooved it! I'm the only one in my family who likes to eat it (I found that out the hard way last year, made a huge batch and at least half of it went bad since no one else would help me eat it!)
  • We made some pumpkin muffins last week and they molded before we could finish them (real tears). Other than that it’s bagels I’m craving! I hope I don’t have GD this time because the carb cravings are real.
  • My current cravings are grapefruit and pomegranate. I have been going through record numbers of both, and the pomegranates we have been getting on the easy coast are the best I have ever had.

And today I made a pumpkin cake that I plan on covering in cream cheese frosting tomorrow. No idea what I will do with a whole cake, but I couldn’t resist the temptation of a homemade fall treat.

Proud of myself that I have resisted candy corn this far into October though. I love it so much but I am pretty sure it is straight corn syrup in a cute shape.
  • @ashley14598 muffins freeze really well, if you make another batch anytime soon!
  • @lelkcot that looks so yummy!!

@maggiemadeit I've been on a pomegranate kick, too lately! I have been putting them in salad with greens and goat cheese and nuts and dried figs!
  • I'm making pumpkin bread tomorrow. Next weekend I'm taking DS apple picking with a friend and her toddler, so there will most definitely be some apple-based deliciousness happening next weekend.

@lelkcot aww, so disappointing! I got some cider at a local farm when we went to get pumpkins to carve.

ETA: I have been waiting for my local grocery store to start carrying sparkling cider. I want some so badly and I can't find any! They have sparkling grape; it's just not the same!
  • @Lbloom I don't know the answer to panera, but I make a huge batch of squash soup and freeze it in serving sizes.

  • For cravings I've been wanting fruit and bagels. The thought of protein makes me gag so I bought some black bean burgers.

  • @Lbloom I completely agree, Panera's squash soup is DELICIOUS! I don't know if they sell by the quart
  • @lbloom My grocery store sell Panera brand soups in the refrigerated section.
  • @Kenneylynn3 - Last time I made the soup, by the time I realized I was eating it by myself, it was a bit late to freeze it. Next time I make it, I will do just that. I think you get a good size batch from even 1 butternut squash?

@purpleteacher82 - Nice, I will have to look for it next time I'm at the store!
  • I’m making broccoli cheddar potato soup (recipe on skinny taste). Other than that, I’ve really been craving the sweets. I made a batch of brownies last night and French toast this morning.
  • This is our go-to chili recipe, which we made again last night. It's SO good. I haven't experienced heartburn yet, so I'm trying to enjoy spicy food while I still can! -- https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/84760/smokin-scovilles-turkey-chili/
  • @mayoduck I have been enjoying all the spicy that I can as well. I have heartburn but I have been able to keep it at bay, so I am buying hot sauce, hot salsa, and Thai chilis by the cart full!
  • I'm on the pomegranate kick as well. Been picking them off the tree and eating it while standing over the sink (it can be soo messy!). I've been bringing some to friends whenever I see them or sending bags home with people that visit, but we've had a lot fewer fruit this year and I'm starting to selfishly want to hoard the rest for myself lol.

I'm not much of a cook or baker and I love reading all the things you ladies make! You're all inspiring me to attempt some homemade dishes.
  • @mayoduck yes!! I've also wanted hot apple cider.

I've been on a cookie baking binge with chocolate chip cookies. My coworkers have been happy with that!
  • I’ve got a new New England Clam Chowder I want to make and I’m thinking tonight is the night. Anyone know how well cream based soups freeze?

  • @meggyme I freeze all soups. They seem to do just fine. Just give a good stir while heating.

@Lbloom I use only one squash. I add carrots, a med potato, half an onion. Makes plenty for just me to have for a week or two depending on how often I eat it.

  • All your posts sound soooo delicious! It’s still hot here so no “fall” foods for me. I’m still just craving fruit, salads, the occasional bagel, and very thirsty all the time. We made homemade lemonade yesterday, more like summer. I saw a lady eating pomegranate kernels from a bowl with a spoon last week & it looked SO good! I was stoked when Costco had them by the tray the next day, so that’s what I’ve been eating all week. I wish they were as sweet as what some of you have posted :)

I have some bananas in the freezer & some on the counter going brown so I think I will make banana bread. That’s about as fall as it’s going to get around my kitchen for awhile.
  • Smitten Kitchen’s pumpkin bread did not disappoint.
  • I am sad bc baby doesn't like sweets at ALL and i normally want ALLLL the pumpkin things around this time of year and i am normally obsessed with the Autumn Squash soup at Panera but i got it last week and it was too sweet for me  :'( i have been having a huge craving for sweet potatoes though, so i think thats probably what will be on the menu all week.
  • @lelkcot just made cranberry oatmeal muffins inspired by that delicious photo you posted :)
  • @mamaoftwomonkeys cranberry muffins for the win!  :D
  • All these amazing baked goods make me so sad I have a gluten intolerance, haha. I'm googling gluten free recipes like mad so I can experiment.
  • @maggiemadeit Oh my gosh, I love you so. much. right now. I didn't even know they had a cup-for-cup blend!
  • @maggiemadeit  is that cream cheese frosting? Because that is all I want now after looking at that picture  :D
  • Lemon meringue pie is what I’m all about today. YUM!

  • I bought some super delicious lemon cookies from a sweet old lady at a farmers market a couple weeks ago, and some cranberry/orange cookies sound heavenly.

Sadly I’m with @zionsmama85 and have been unable to indulge my normal sweet tooth. I wouldn’t describe what’s going on as food aversions, just nothing sounds good or calls my name. (Except beer!  :|)

Panera does something called “soup for a group” - I’m not sure how large it is, probably about the same as ordering 3 bowls of soup.
