4) GTKY: What’s the best thing you got from your parents?
NTNP since Dec 2012 | TTC since Jan 2016 Dx: Unspecified IF BFP#1 Nov 2017 • Blighted Ovum + MMC • D&C at nine weeks BFP#2 Apr 2018 • It's a boy! • Born 13 Dec 2018
2) Any appointment updates? Today was my 30 week appointment. All is good and doc wasn't concerned about my huge weight gain. BP is good, baby's heart sounds good. Back in 2 weeks which is when I'll get the TDAP (which I was expecting to get today).
3) RantsRaves/Questions/DearDiary? I really wish I could sleep all night in my bed. Alas, my affair with the couch continues. I start there, then halfway through the night I move to my bed after the worst of the heartburn subsides. Why does this have to be a thing?
4) GTKY: What’s the best thing you got from your parents? Work ethic, love of family, traditions, a college education
@scaredunprepared Oh no, that sucks that your heartburn is so bad that you can't sleep! Have you tried propping yourself up with some pillows? There are also these wedge things that just lift up the upper half, acting sort of like the adjustable mattresses..
2) Any appointment updates? None this week but next Tuesday I am getting my flu shot and the bi-weekly appointment. Planning to mention this SPD pain I am having. I don't think there is anything to be done, but at least it would be good to mention it so there is a way to track if it's getting worse or not.
3) Rants/Raves/Questions/DearDiary? Rant - so tired and grumpy lately.. Rave - we are almost done with the nursery! I just need to get (possibly) a comfier chair and a side table/storage thing to keep feeding supplies and books and such. Maybe some curtains and a soft rug to spruce it up.
4) GTKY: What’s the best thing you got from your parents? I will go with the most concrete one (because things like love are difficult to describe, and I certainly hope everyone has been loved by their parents): moving to North America. It was such a difficult time for them, not the least of which is just the concept of moving to a different part of the world without any contacts there. At first, my dad was the only one with a job and mom didn't even speak English. Then my dad lost his job and we went two years without any income, except for the little bit we could get from odd jobs and my mom working as a hotel cleaning lady (she is actually an Engineer by trade). Things started to get better from there, but really it took my mom 10+ years to be able to work in her field again because she had no local work experience.
@scaredunprepared sorry about your heartburn, i am a big fan of the pillow fort to keep myself propped up, but i also use the couch when i really can't sleep for some reason. @ab_canada that's an amazing story about your parents. You all must be so resilient
1) How far along are you? 31+1 2) Any appointment updates? Nothing till next week, but it's with a new dr (i'm making the rounds of people who might do my delivery) so that is exciting.
3) RantsRaves/Questions/DearDiary? baby shower this weekend, mom and sister visit, just all around busy fun few days ahead.
4) GTKY: What’s the best thing you got from your parents? Hmmmmm. willingness to take risks, independence, freaking amazing role models for parenting teamwork, i hope i can follow their example of ALWAYS at least appearing as a united front.
@scaredunprepared Are you taking any acid blockers? Bedtime is nice again since I started taking a Zantac before dinner to prevent the acid. I still can’t doze off on my right side, but it’s miles better than before @ab_canada I can’t imagine immigrating like that My dad is a first generation American and it’s amazing to see how the quality of life increases per generation (in general!).
@morgantu Parenting teamwork is such a big deal!! I wish more kids got to experience a positive united front.
1) How far along are you? 31+2
2) Any appointment updates? Had a good two-weeker on Wednesday and recorded my biggest gain - 4lbs in two weeks! Dr. isn't worried, I'm just wondering if it's actually baby and baby accessories -or- if it's just extra baggage on my hips.
3) RantsRaves/Questions/DearDiary? Dear Diary, I think I'm going to swing by Payless and buy some cheap sneakers that I don't mind stretching out I hate buying temporary clothes, but I don't want to ruin my Tieks with fat feet.
4) GTKY: What’s the best thing you got from your parents? From my mom - bone structure. I hated being small as a kid, but being a petite adult is awesome. I can pack an entire week's worth of clothes in a carry-on because they're all similarly small! From my dad - ability to tan, sense of humor. I love being able to easily change my skin color in the summer, and laugh about my amazing tan lines later.

@ab_canada I use the couch to prop myself up into a semi sitting position to sleep, which has been kind of working. I tried doing this in bed to minimize heartburn but it didn't work as well, I think maybe because it's a wrought iron headboard and not solid so the pillows don't stay up. So sorry about your SPD and grumpiness. Have you been using a support belt at all? Yay for being almost done with the nursery! Your family's story is very inspiring. Strength and perseverance!
@morgantu my pillow fort doesn't work on my bed only the couch. So the couch is where I spend much of the night. I've been making the rounds with the docs in my practice too. I've seen most of them at least once by now. I think there's 1 or 2 I have yet to meet. Fingers crossed you like this new doc. Have a great time at your shower and spending time with family and friends this weekend! I'm always worried DH and I will be very different at parenting and be at odds. I really hope not. His one friend and wife are SO opposite in this area they are constantly butting heads in front of their kids. I can tell the kids don't seem to respect them or their boundaries as a result. Yikes! I don't want that for us (or any of us Dec moms)!
@echo-charlietango yes! I take like 4 tums a night. I know there's stronger stuff available but I'm hesitant for some reason. I'm gaining like crazy lately, I guess our bodies just do what they want/need to do. Doc isn't worried so I'm trying not to be.
@echo-charlietango "baby and baby accessories" DED @scaredunprepared I put my support belt somewhere and it has disappeared into another dimension I am going to spend some time looking for it this weekend though - it's definitely necessary..
@scaredunprepared You should totally try Zantac, I’m sure you can grab a pill or two from a convenience store if you don’t want to commit to an entire box! When I told my OB that I was still miserable and taking maximum Tums, he recommended Zantac right away. I’ve been taking the 150 dosage, one before breakfast (coffee is an acid trigger for me), then one again before dinner. Total game changer, DH noticed that I was happier and more comfortable on day one.

@echo-charlietango not yet I was just out at the store too but of course I forgot it because it wasn't on my list. Thankfully, tonight seems like a good, minimal heartburn kind of night. Score!
