i’m all checked in at the hospital, hanging out in the hospital room. 34w today exactly. both babies kicking during the drive here. my parents are bringing dd1 to visit in a couple hours. feeling good.
got my music going and my cup of ice chips. stuck to the bed for the most part because of the baby heart rate monitors. no option for portable for twins, so no walking around the halls this time
haven’t seen the obgyn yet to start the induction meds. trying for a vaginal delivery.
i’ll attempt to update more here as things progress. feel free to ama.

Also, I'm super jealous that you're getting a chance at a vaginal delivery with your twins. I was never given that option with mine. I hope it works out for you!

some of the nicu staff came by to tell me what i can expect and answer a bunch of questions. babies will not get to stay together in the same isolette, but there’s a good chance they’ll room together privately. the staff is anticipating that they will close the nicu to nonparent/gparent visitors soon because of the start of cold/flu season in the community, so i’m a bit nervous that dd may not get to meet her sisters for a long time if that happens tomorrow morning. they said they were surprised it was still open at this point.
i really don’t think the babies are getting here before midnight. i’m curious to see how much more i’ve dilated, but i do not want another cervical check so i guess i’m ok waiting for that answer ha.
also, the hunger pangs have backed off a bit now that the contractions are picking up, so that’s nice. although i’m still compiling a list of all the foods i want dh to get me once i’m cleared to eat.
eta-also, because of the iv, i’ve been having to pee 1-2x every hour. and it’s a pain because i have to lug the iv tower and unplug from the fetal hr monitor and carry the big cords with me into the bathroom everytime. half looking forward to the catheter that comes with the epidural so i don’t have to do all that anymore.
got another cervical check at 10pm— only 3cms, but about 70% effaced, and midwife felt a head! she even saw a little bloody show afterwards. contractions are 1 min apart, so i’m feeling a constant uncomfortableness now. midwife decided to start me on a low level of pitocin, which the nurse just set up through my iv. nurse said the pitocin will help to space the contractions more. still no epidural, but i’m definitely asking about it often.
btw, for those ftm who were asking about what contractions feel like: for me, they started feeling like intermittent bad gas pains, but now they feel like bad menstrual cramps.
i’m definitely getting anxious now. looks like we’re proceeding with a motn delivery. babies seem to be tolerating everything well, though, thank goodness.
I also haven't heard that the epidural can help you progress faster because it helps you relax. But people try and say bad things about the epidural all the time, like it will make labor harder and longer and what not, which is apparently just not true for everyone!

at midnight, i was ready for the epidural. truthfully, the pain wasn’t horrible yet, but i didn’t want to wait too long and be in the same situation last time where i was flinching at each contraction. flinching and needle in the back not advised. anesthesiologist came in at 12:45. from first local anesthetic poke to completely done, the procedure only took her 3 minutes. really, i joke that there was no point to the local anesthetic because she got in there with the epidural needle before that even kicked in. my nurse said the anesthesiologist is well beloved by the staff because of how quick she works and how good she is with the dosing cocktail, so i feel lucky to have gotten her. the worst part was definitely the local anesthesia, as it burned like hellfire. but i am soooo thankful now. feeling very comfortable. legs are tingly but i can move them pretty well, and zero pain now.
the next cervical check was a breeze. still only at 4cm, despite how many contractions i’m having. nurse laid out all the gear for delivery and baby warming stations. i’m going to try to get some sleep now.
fell asleep around 2am.
at 3am, a couple of nurses came in to fuss with the fetal hr monitors for the hundreth time. meanwhile, pitocin was making my contractions hulk out apparently, so it was turned off completely to see what happens. 10 minutes after they left, i felt a big rush of fluid come out of me. at first i thought maybe i knocked my catheter out when i rolled over and then peed myself, but it dawned on me that it could have been one of the sacs finally breaking. paged the nurse to come verify, and i’m oddly proud to say that it was a ton of amniotic fluid (i won’t go into tmi details, but i was very happy because with dd1 who had very low fluid, it was only a trickle). got cleaned up, then went back to sleep.
at 4:30, nurses came back in to give me an oxygen mask and a tiny bit of ephedrine (?) in my iv because my blood pressure went down to 90/50.
currently, i have three large monitors strapped to my belly, an iv line in my left arm, an epidural line in my back, a permanent blood pressure cuff on my other arm that automatically goes off every 5 minutes, and now an oxygen mask. be jealous.
