I'm getting blood drawn today to see if my platelets are still excessively high... I am hoping they will have gone down, because if they're still high, that probably means there's something wrong with me aside from being pregnant and I will need to see a hematologist. I'm super nervous about that possibility, so here's hoping they come back in the normal range 🤞
Pregnancy #1 DD 08.30.2007 Pregnancy #2 Natural Miscarriage at 6 weeks 03/2014 Due date 11/9/2014 Pregnancy #3 DS 02.23.2015 Pregnancy #4 Missed Miscarriage at 11 weeks 11/2018 Due date 5/22/2019 Pregnancy #5 Positive test 12/11/2019 Due Date 8/17/2020
I have my first appointment Thursday with the nurse for BW! From there we shall schedule the US, so hopefully not too much longer to put my PGAL brain at ease.
I have my first appointment today at 1. I'm a little nervous because this is a Clomid pregnancy. I'm thinking there is just 1 in there, but Clomid does slightly increase odds of twins...so we will see! We have 2 toddlers at home already so 1 is ideal, but we knew the risks before we started and obviously would be happy no matter how many buns are in the oven!
I am taking part in a study through my insurance about depression and anxiety in pregnant women. I am in the intervention group and I will be in a class every two weeks for my entire pregnancy. My first is tomorrow.
I also have an elective ultrasound on Friday because I'm really nervous.
I have a genetic counseling appointment today and I have no idea what to expect. I filled out the paperwork, so then we just walk through it? I don't have any particular flags, but I'm AMA, so I opted in. After that I have an appointment with the high-risk perinatologist. I never knew what an MFM appt was, but now I have one. I have Crohn's, so my regular OB wants me to consult with MFM in particular for planning ahead whether I am a candidate for VBAC or whether I need a RCS as suggested by my colorectal surgeon. DH is not coming to either appointment, because he has no time-off and he's sick all the time.
First appt is Wednesday and I'm super excited bc I haven't been as nauseous with this one as in previous pregnancies. Also nervous that DD6 is right and it's a boy AND a girl baby which I guess doesn't make much sense bc of the lack of nausea I but still oh my lanta if it's twins! 😬😳
@brie_and_almonds Fingers crossed for lower platelets! @dreamingof3 Fingers crossed for a single baby in there lol! My friend got pregnant on Clomid and only had one so here's hoping for you too!
Had my first blood draw today in preparation for next week's 8w OB & US appointment. Already got my CBC and my glucose base test results and all was normal there. Just waiting on the other million results to post on their website. Not gonna lie, I'm starting to obsess and I don't care.
Thanks everybody... I just got my results and my platelets are still more than double what they should be... not really sure what this will mean... Dr. Google has been leading me to horror stories about *TW* blood clotting in the placenta and leading to stillbirth *end TW* as well as the possibility that this could be an early sign of certain types of cancer... hopefully I will get a hematologist appointment asap so that I can get this all figured out.
@brie_and_almonds Thanks for updating. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to focus on what Google says and stay positive!
My appt. went pretty good. Only 1 little jelly bean in there with a strong heartbeat of 183 😀 I'm a little frustrated because based on my charts and according to the ultrasound, I'm due May 18th. However, based on LMP I'm due May 12th. My practice's policy is that it has to be more than 6 days off to change it from the LMP. Since my chart due date is only 6 days off exactly from my lmp, they are sticking with May 12th. I always go over my due date and I'm terrified of being induced again like with my first. I'm worried that since they are saying I'm almost a full week ahead of where I'm actually at, they will want to induce me when I almost certainly "go over". I plan on talking with them more about seeing if they will let me go until at least 42 weeks if they are going to insist on keeping my LMP due date and not the one that matches my chart and the ultrasound.
@dreamingof3 I would definitely bring up your concerns with them. And, don't forget, they can't actually do anything without your consent. If you really don't want to be induced and you feel comfortable with the risks of waiting, especially considering your lmp vs. conception date due dates, you don't have to be induced. I would ask them to discuss those risks with you so you can make an informed decision.
I've got my first appointment with my midwives tomorrow at 10 and I am SO EXCITED. It will be an hour and a half and will include all sorts of things like taking my medical history and discussing all the ways midwifery is different and what I can expect over the next bunch of months. Some of it will be stuff I already know since this is my second time with the practice. I'm kind of excited just to see my midwife again. And, I'm excited to hear the heartbeat, of course.

Got my blood drawn yesterday and Kaiser posts all results online so you can review when you're ready. Wasn't sure if they would post results in regards to the pregnancy. So far the only results are ones to do with my health and nothing to do with the pregnancy. It's driving me insane.
I'm still trying to figure out where to go. What do midwives do exactly? I'm not sure where to go and I'm wondering what is different about going to a midwife.
@RoseShadow873 midwives are amazing. Or, at least here they are. My understanding is that they can vary significantly from state to state, and I'm in Ontario, which regulates their practice quite heavily so that it can be covered by our health insurance. Our midwives essentially do everything for your prenatal care that a family doctor can do. They are very big on informed consent, so they will give you a ton of information about every bit of blood work and procedure. You are also more likely to get your midwife when you give birth. At my practice, you have two midwives assigned to you and will see them throughout your prenatal care. One of them will be on call and will attend your birth when the time comes.

Had my first appointment this morning! Got a prescription for diclectin (hallelujah), two requisitions for blood work, an ultrasound appointment and I got to hear the heartbeat! A healthy 160bpm. She had trouble finding it at first - at 10 weeks, it can be hard to find on a Doppler because your uterus is still very low below your pubic bone. But she did find it and it made me cry and seriously, that sound never gets old.
My midwife was extra excited to see me because I was one of her first patients when she was new to the practice two years ago. She said she was so excited to see my name come up again.
Ooh! One of my big questions for her was whether or not I would be able to have a home birth again. I had complications last time (am happy to tell the story if people want to hear it) that required a transfer to the hospital, so I was certain she would say no, it's absolutely not recommended. But, she didn't! She and my second midwife have already been discussing it, knowing I would probably be asking the question when I arrived, and she said they wouldn't completely dismiss it as a possibility, but would want to conference and discuss with the other midwives in the practice to get advice and come up with a plan to prevent complications again. So, I'm super excited by that.

@brie_and_almonds I hope you get answers soon. I'm sure it's incredibly scary, but I do suggest staying away from Dr. Google for the time being. I know you know that and that's legit impossible for any of us to do, but until you are able to get more answers from a specialist, I'd leave it alone if you can. Please keep us posted.
@k2k2tog What great news about your homebirth! I hope you are able to execute your birth plan. That could be so special and I'm so glad they didn't brush it off completely. It sounds like they are super supportive of you and your dreams. They are good midwives
I had my first appt today. I was told even though I'm AMA, they won't be treating me as high-risk unless something happens during the pregnancy. I was thrilled that DH and I were able to hear the heartbeat for a split second and also see the little one moving and shaking. He/she was spinning in circles and our tech worked super hard to get a good picture of the little bean. She did really well. I was thinking I was 10 weeks based on my ovulation strips, but the babe was measuring 10w+4. Makes me a little nervous simply because DS was born right on time (legit due date baby) and the next one usually comes a bit earlier. I'm not sure when I should say my maternity leave should start, my original due date (5/7) or one adjusted to the measurement scan (5/3)... Whatever. I'll figure it out. I have a healthy bean and I'm not considered high-risk with my midwives. YAY!
@bumbly_b I wonder if there would be interest in a thread for birth stories from STMs? I know when I was a FTM reading other people's experiences was really helpful and made me less afraid of what was coming.

@brie_and_almonds, hopefully you get some answers and reassurance from the specialists soon! Definitely keep us posted. Elevated platelets are sometimes an inflammatory response. Could it be that you’ve recently had some sort of viral infection that may have triggered the increase? Just an idea for a more benign reason, I’m sure your doctors will have better ones once they assess the numbers and clinical situation more closely.
@MaggieG183, glad that they are being more relaxed with your care...it’s awkward being labeled an “elderly multip”; I myself just had a good laugh about it with the OB that I saw for my 1st appt this morning.
As for me, looks like I’m still in a state of limbo. I’m measuring well behind my technical LMP (would be 7 and 3 today), as today’s US showed me at 6 weeks even with a HR of 106. This could have corresponded perfectly with when I think I actually ovulated (exactly 9-10 days later than “mid-traditional 28 day cycle”, since my temps went up and stay up much more consistently then. I think things were so wonky this cycle and with my IUD being removed on 7/31 and LMP of 8/19, I don’t have a prior cycle for comparison! ***TW*** But, with the baby measuring small in relation to LMP, of course I received the warning that the baby may have stopped growing and I will miscarry. I expected this as soon as I saw the tiny yolk sac and fetal pole on the screen. ***end TW****
I’m trying to maintain a healthy bit of cautious optimism as I wait another 9 days for my next follow up scan and visit with the OB. Thanks for reading this long post, it’s hard to only have my husband, who’s completely non-medical and non-pregnant (obviously), to talk to about this. He gets it, but isn’t as invested in terms of the time and effort that I’ve personally already invested into thinking about and taking care of this pregnancy.
@gabadoo I don't really know what's going on at all. I haven't had any symptoms of infection, but I did have a symptomless UTI, and took antibiotics for that last week (over the course of which my platelets increased slightly). I also have some nerve damage from my last pregnancy that I don't truthfully know the extent of, so anything is really possible.
I'm also sorry that you're stuck in limbo playing the waiting game. Late ovulation is definitely possible. When I was tracking my cycles, I never ovulated before like day 19 or 20, so I always expected the Dr's dates to be off by several days. Hopefully things will look good at your follow-up!
Thank you, ladies. Creepy internet hugs to you all. I just scheduled myself for an extra shift at work and play dates for the kids to keep my mind off things for now.
@brie_and_almonds, maybe it was the UTI! Not that UTIs are fun, but hopefully it was something transient like an infection and nothing to worry about for the remainder of pregnancy. I’ll keep checking and hoping for a positive outcome for you!
@gabadoo I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this. That’s so hard not knowing what is happening and I hope to hear at your next scan it was just a late ovulation date and baby is growing juuuust fine.
@gabadoo sending love and prayers your way! Can’t wait to hear that everything is fine and the dates were just off.
My first US appointment was scheduled for tomorrow, but because of tropical storm Michael, it got pushed to Friday. I know it is only a one day difference, but this is the second time my appointment got pushed back and I’m just so excited to see LO, it’s a little frustrating.
New mommy to be! EDD: 05/27/19 hoping for a girl!!!
