The house we just moved out of in March was haunted, we think by the ghost of the old lady who was the original owner since she died in the house. She liked to take the crucifix above our front door off the wall and take Jesus off the cross. We would come home from work and find the crucifix resting on the floor with Jesus next to it and the three nails in a neat row next to him. She would also turn on the shower in the guest bathroom whenever we moved furniture around.

Noooo. I mean, yes, this is fun but I’m probably going to open this thread during daytime surrounded by lots of people (can I hijack and say this is my UO today? Haha).
My father lives in a secluded farmhouse, and when it's nighttime, it is literally pitch black and absolutely silent. The house is surrounded by cornfields. I was there by myself one night, sitting on the couch and watching a movie, when I heard scampering across the floor upstairs. My first thought was a raccoon on the roof, but then it scampered back the other way, and it was definitely something inside the house upstairs. I phoned my older brother and told him, and he was all skeptical and told me to go look, that it probably was a raccoon. I took the portable phone with me to the stairs. If you've never been in a really old farmhouse... There aren't light switches everywhere. In order to turn on the light upstairs, I had to go up the stairs and pull the cord on the bulb that hung from the ceiling. In the opposite direction was the equally dark basement. I slowly started going up the stairs, convincing myself something was going to come out of the basement and get me, when very literally from right behind me on the landing, a metal pipe fell over. All by itself. I screamed and fell down a few steps when I trietried to look behind me, and then I heard the thing upstairs running around. That was it, man. I got out of that stairwell, slammed the door shut, and stayed on the couch the rest of the night. My father went up the next day.... Nothing. No evidence anything had ever been there.
I could write a book with all the things I’ve experienced. I swear things follow me. The best, though, happened a couple years ago. I was sitting at the kitchen table feeding my 6 month old and my 10 year old was standing in the middle of the kitchen talking with his sisters. A wooden spoon literally flew across the room from behind, hit his hip, and skidded across the floor. We all just stared at it. My hands were full, and I wasn’t behind him, so it definitely wasn’t me. And there was no one between him and the spoon. That night we could hear doors slamming in the basement, and the tv kept changing between channels and electronics on its own. The next day, I was in the kitchen with two of my kids and the sink turned out. We turned towards the sink and watched a little boy walk off and disappear. And after that, I could hear a glass jar being dragged across the counter top. Then, my H and I were going to bed and we heard someone come up the stairs and walk into our room. We both sat up expecting a kid to be there and no one was. Everything kept escalating from there. It was absolutely crazy. Then one day it just stopped. This is just a small amount. I can remember things as early as 6 years old. And the last incident was just a couple weeks ago at my other place. Things don’t really phase me anymore. They haven’t for years.
I had a dream many month after my beloved aunt died where I remembered she was dead, realized i was dreaming and asked her about it and she said she was and it was ok and she loved me. I still get choked up about it. I am never aware in my dreams. I am not at all religious but this stuck with me.
Also if you looove spooky shit, I 100% recommend the No Sleep Podcast and Darkest Nights Podcast. Both are excellent.
Ahhhhh! I hate ghost stories. They seriously scare the crap out of me lol but at the same time this thread is like one of those things where you don't want to read it, but have to.
I’m also not a fan of ghost stories or anything really scary! But I just can’t seem to stop reading! From now on, I’m only checking this thread in the morning!
We lived in a house we all swear was haunted. I was in 5th grade. My mom got super religious, like scary religious. Every time I closed my eyes I saw static...I started to think that was normal. One night my cousin was sleeping in my bed with me and I woke up and a black shadow was lifting her up and she was slowly sitting up. I opened my eyes really big, the thing disappeared and my cousin fell. Our dog was afraid to go into certain areas of our house and one time jumped straight through a glass window for no apparent reason . So creepy .
@SweetBriarBee I’ve heard that certain people are more likely to experience supernatural activity. So you may be right that it follows you!
We always have our homes blessed with holy water by our priest, so I figure any spirits hanging around after that can’t be too bad. It’s not like we use a Ouija board or anything to invite bad spirits.

As far as I know I've never experienced anything supernatural, but a coworker told me a story about his childhood home that I still think about a lot. When he was a child he remembers always seeing the spirit of an old lady wandering around his house. She wasn't malicious in any way and didn't really do anything, she was just kind of there like a roommate. He and his siblings would all see her but never his parents. Eventually she just kind of disappeared. Flash forward to many years later when he was visiting his parents with his wife and daughter. His wife was changing his daughter's diaper when all of the sudden she sat straight up and was just staring out into the hallway. His wife asked what she was looking at and she said "the old lady in the hallway". SPOOKY
@DLpanda08 It would make sense. I also have 4 sisters and a brother who have experienced things. So it must run in families, too?
One of my sisters and I had saw the same person at different times. I was at home alone and I saw this old lady walk by me. She had her hair up in a bun and a shawl wrapped around her. My mom and sisters got home and I told them I had seen this old lady, and my sister cut me off and said, "With the bun and the shawl?!" Umm, yeah, that lady.
Another sister and I kept having issues with the washer after my dad started renovating our home. We would start a load of laundry and the lid would be opened and the load wouldn't finish. We thought someone was playing tricks on us, but it would happen when we were home alone. We dubbed it the washer ghost. One night we were both sitting on the couch and we saw this man walk out of the laundry room and we both gasped. He looked to be somewhere in his younger 40s, dressed in...like...barbershop clothes? I still have issues with it here and there at that house. We started the dryer before we left last time (we were gone for two weeks), and when we got back, the dryer had been stopped, and the clothes were soaked. It was like they never went through a spin cycle in the washer. I'm glad it was just towels.
And then my non believer brother and a different sister were sitting in my basement, watching tv. The couch was right by the door to a bedroom. No one but them were in the house at the time. They both heard my sisters named yelled from the bedroom. He always called us crazy up until then.
When I was 6 ish, my sister and I were playing upstairs. My grandma showed up and I told her that I'd race her downstairs. There's only one way done. I ran down first, and when I rounded the corner into the living room, my sister was sitting on the couch next to my grandma. I was floored. I asked her how she got downstairs before me and everyone in the room was confused because my sister had been downstairs the whole time. I don't know who or what I was playing with, but it wasn't my sister.
I’ve always been told it has to do with blood type. Apparently rh- people are more sensitive to paranormal activity. That would explain it running in families. My parents and brothers have all had experiences like mine too.

Uhm thanks for this guys. DH is at work and I just put DD to bed and went back to start catching up on things I’ve missed in here. Now I have all the lights on and am watching the office to try and un-spook myself! Haha.
ETA: but at the same time I want MORE. I love ghost stories and hearing real ones from you guys is way better than fake or second hand ones.
