1st Trimester

Bearing Down

I know this probably isn't the most pleasant thing to talk about but after struggling with infertility and past miscarriages I am now 8 weeks pregnant and super paranoid about everything.  I have been getting a lot of constipation and once in a while, not often, I have to actually bear down, and now I'm worried that doing so could have caused damage.  Can bearing down cause miscarriage?  I left my doctor a message but they haven't called me back yet.  I am very nervous!

Re: Bearing Down

  • Miscarriage is not caused by anything you could do. Do not blame yourself for your losses. Most of the time it is due to a genetic defect. But with that said, get some stool softeners, increase your water and fiber so you’re more comfortable.

  • Get colace and gas-X :)
  • Going to the bathroom =/= miscarriage.   Sorry for your loss, but it's nothing you did.  There was something significantly wrong with the fetus.  Again, I'm sorry.
  • Thank you!  My doctor finally called me back and told me to try Milk of Magnesia too.  They said that straining to go shouldn't have caused any damage so to try not to worry about it.  Easier said than done though!  I won't be relaxed until I'm out of the first trimester!
  • No, that will not cause miscarriage. Get yourself a good magnesium supplement, to help with constipation. Ive tried the Country Life brand, and another one you mix with water and drink. I believe it’s called Natural Calm, but I prefer the Counrty Life brand. I know it’s hard, but try not to stress.
