GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!)
Appointments/questions: I don't have anything until October.
Rants/raves: Rants: I'm feeling irritable and my kids (students) were really testing my patience today. They will be seeing some pregnancy wrath soon, I fear! Rave: I took a little day trip to IKEA with my dad, stepmom, and DD over the weekend. We stopped at a nice gastropub and had the best lunch. If only I could've had the beer too!
How are you feeling? I feel like I have more energy this week. I've actually managed to stay up until 10!
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) All of our valuables and sentimental items like photo flash drives are in a fire safe. I'd probably have to grab my wedding ring since I'm not wearing it!
Appointments/questions: Just had a routine prenatal exam today. Baby was again uncooperative with getting the HB but I will take all that activity as a sign everything is just fine! Anatomy scan scheduled for 3 weeks from now! Can't wait to see the little munchkin on the screen again.
Rants/raves: Rant: Sleeping on my sides had my hips aching so much I didn't get any sleep Saturday night and then Sunday I succumbed to a head cold. Pregnancy aches compounded by illness aches made it feel like I had been hit by a truck. Thank goodness I feel like I'm on the other side of the cold today. Rave: Praise for my husband who hasn't given a peep of complaint even though all my bedtime tossing and turning must have made it impossible for him to sleep too.
How are you feeling? Not great but so much better than yesterday.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? My cellphone. I'm not big on sentimental keepsakes, I doubt I'd be able to think of anything outside of the safety of my family in that type of situation.
Appointments/questions: had an appointment this morning. Got to hear the heartbeat again and heard lots of kicks and other movement. That was cool. My doctor had an interesting thing to say to me.... She said I'm long waisted, which I knew, but she said that would make it look like I'm not really as far along as I really am. But I also think that will work well in my favor. Since I have hardware in my pelvis my hips can't spread... So I guess having a long torso will be a good thing to have later in the pregnancy
Rants/raves: I've gotten really tired of sleeping on my side. It's just not comfortable right now. But I guess I'll just deal with it.
How are you feeling? Tired. I thought we were supposed to have more energy in our second tris?!?! I swear some days I wake up already ready for a nap. Most days in fact.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) I have a memorial quilt that was made from Hawaiian shirts from a deceased loved one. I would grab that, and.... I guess my phone.
Appointments/questions: Next appointment is a week from today.
Rants/raves: Rant: I was so straight out at work today. I love working from home, but it happens sometimes that it gets so busy that I don’t manage a shower or to fix myself a proper meal. Rave: We took my daughter apple picking this weekend and she had the best time. We always went as a family when I was a kid, and we got to eat an apple fresh from the tree on the car ride home. Recreating that memory with my own family really made my heart full. Plus I made apple crisp. Win-win.
How are you feeling? I am still feeling really tired. But I have been making a real effort to take care of myself and listen to my body, so when I am falling asleep reading to my daughter before bed I actually put myself to bed too, instead of trying to stay up and do things.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? I am not a big jewelry person, but I own 4 pieces of jewelry (including my wedding set) that my husband has given me, and I would probably grab whatever I wasn’t wearing. That feels really materialistic, but since we already saved all the people...
Appointments/questions: I have an ultrasound next Friday. I can't wait!
Rants/raves: No rants this week. Raves: We went to Disneyland yesterday and it was a great day with perfect weather. I had a corn dog and it was amazing!
How are you feeling? I am tired! I want to take naps every afternoon and I'm in bed early every night. I am still nauseous in the mornings and while I am making dinner. It's not fun. I am starting to feel some movement, especially on the left. It is a great feeling!
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) I would grab my phone, laptop, and scrapbooks.
Appointments/questions: 1.5 weeks until my first appointment. I'm getting so anxious! I can't wait.
Rants/raves: Combo - woke up really dizzy this morning, but it actually faded by noon. Usually when I get dizzy, it doesn't fade that fast and never without sleeping again.
Feeling: Tired still. Achiness continues off and on. It just depends. No real rhyme or reason to when I will be in pain and when I won't be.
GTKY: Probably my journals. I haven't been super consistent with them always, but I do have years worth of stuff written in with details I've forgotten like the minute details of my daughter's birth story and memories from when H and I dated and got engaged. I was going to say the folder with documents like or marriage license, birth certificates, SSCs, but those are actually replaceable. My journals aren't.
Appointments/questions: Nothing until October 11th! Feels so far away.
Rants/raves: Still cannot believe baby is a GIRL!!! I was so convinced I was having a boy, that I've spent the entire day daydreaming about a daughter. Now I just wish she'd move for me.
How are you feeling? Really good! Achy pelvis/lower abdomen... still starving.... other than that, no complaints.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) If I'm being honest....My computer/cell phone.
Appointments/questions: not till Weds! Still bummed last week’s appointment was moved
Rants/raves: combination rant/rave: DH is away for 2.5 days and it’s always a bummer solo parenting. My awesome neighbors invited us over for dinner tonight though which was a saving grace as my daughter didn’t nap ALL day.
How are you feeling? Not too shabby! I’m tired still but feeling overall really good. I do get really dizzy if I get up quickly, but that definitely was a symptom last pregnancy too
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) Probably the pile of jewelry next to my bed. There’s my engagement ring, my grandmothers ring, and my other grandmothers necklace that I would be heartbroken to lose.
Appointments/questions: ultrasound booked for 16 October. I'm supposed to be seen by the hospital for my booking in appointment, but they have a crazy long wait list ATM. Which means there are a crazy amount of women pregnant right now, and I'm a tad concerned what that will mean when I'm trying to schedule a c-section (technically, they can argue it's an elective, which they don't allow, even though I have a large list of medical reasons for needing one)
Rants/raves: nothing ATM. Just chugging along.
How are you feeling? Not too bad. I'm still puking maybe once a day, but I'm not all day nauseous so that's a huge improvement. My hips are starting to go, but it happened last pregnancy as well, so it's expected.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) I'd go for phone and car keys. I'd try to get my car out so that I don't have to replace it. It also has my wallet in it, which is good because replacing all my cards seems like a pain the arse, when I'm already trying to deal with no house.
Rants/raves: I’ve been sick all month and I’m over it! Plus I’m on vacation this week, so yea...
How are you feeling? Still congested and now it’s made it’s way to my nose. I’ve got my appetite back though and when I have moments where I’m feeling better from my virus I have more energy!
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) My cell phone and MacBook.
Rants/raves: Rant: DS2 has HFMD. He’s covered in a blistering rash, itchy and just miserable. On top of that he has impetigo on one of his open sores. And DH is out of town for the week. So I’m trying to keep the 2 kids away from each other, washing my hands and disinfecting everything and trying not to collapse from absolute exhaustion.
How are you feeling? Mostly just tired.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) Computers and hard drives that have all our pictures and important stuff. As devastating as it would be, everything else is replaceable.
Appointments/questions: I had my 16 week appointment this morning to hear the HB. It took the nurse forever to find it and I panicked. She finally found it after she pressed on my belly. HB of 142bpm. Anatomy scan scheduled for Tuesday 10/9!
Rants/raves: Rave: VBAC consent form signed and submitted. I am going for it. Rant: Panera doesn't have hazelnut cream cheese anymore?! Honey walnut < hazelnut big time. Terrible sub option and now I don't want to eat my bagel.
How are you feeling? I actually feel great! No more nausea and I feel more like myself. Now I just need to get my butt into gear and make it to the gym as often as I can.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) Definitely the hard drive with all of our wedding and family pictures!
Appointments/questions: Midwife appointment tomorrow, ultrasound not until 10/15
Rants/raves: Ugh. It's just been an exhausting week! On top of all of the normal work I have to do.... 1) My partner got a job offer which pays more money and is good for his career but will likely require a decent amount of travel, at least at first. I want him to take the job, but I get really emotional thinking about being alone for long stretches of time when I'm either pregnant or have a kid. I'm probably imagining worst case scenarios but I'm still really nervous about it. 2) I was planning on telling my advisors I was pregnant during a meeting last week and one didn't show up and I lost the nerve to tell the one who did show up. I don't see them that often and I think I'll have to tell them via e-mail which I was hoping to avoid.... 3) Planning a last minute wedding while pregnant is exhausting!
How are you feeling? I woke up this morning with a really sore throat and stuffy nose so I'm not excited about potentially being sick for an eternity. Many of my other gross butt-related symptoms have finally cleared up (phew). Most pregnancy-related symptoms are okay right now, I've just been feeling lots of fullness in my lower abdomen and weird pains when I move too fast, which I guess is normal. And I haven't been sleeping great. I just feel cranky right now!
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) I have a lot of items with sentimental value (old T-shirts, posters, notebooks, etc.) but there's no way in hell I could grab those things in a hurry. I'd just end up grabbing whatever boring stuff I usually leave the house with that is readily available (wallet, phone).
Rants/raves: Rave: Fallish foods. I've never been a big pumpkin anything person. I mean PSl are ok but I'd nothing I dream about.. until now. Give me all the Pumpkin bagels lol Rant: Work in general. Last week my boss came in sick and I mentioned he should stay home bc nothing pressing was happening and he just kept saying he would rather be in the office than getting his wife sick.. yeah he has strep. eye roll. now its spread all over the office. He also informed me that I'm basically responsible for finding a temp for when I'm on maternity leave since I'm taking my full 12 weeks. He emphasized me taking the full amount of time ( which I'm allowed its in our company handbook and its unpaid). I guess we are going to have to sit down and talk about this...
How are you feeling? I'm good. Along with everyone I'm pretty tired. In bed by 9-9:30. Stretching pains and aches but doing good. I was fairly active going to the gym before and I haven't been in months. Really hoping to get back to it soon.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) Box of jewelry. It has all my grandmothers rings in it.
@mschanandlerbong1214 That sounds exhausting! I’m sorry DS2 is sick and hope he gets better quickly. Good luck keeping yourself and DS1 from catching it; sounds like you’re doing everything you can to keep it at bay.
@novelblessings I hope you feel better soon and can fully enjoy your vacation. Are you guys traveling or doing a stay-cation?
@bluebell08 UGH so not cool that your boss exposed the office to his bout of strep throat. When will people learn that staying at home when one has a contagious illness is part of their civic responsibility?
@indigoheightsblog Congrats on baby girl! I can totally see you doing cute mommy and me matching outfits with her!
@maggiemadeit I love that you’re recreating memories and continuing tradition with your family, that’s such a wonderful experience.
@lovesclimbing I’m excited for your first appointment! I can’t believe we’re already at that point. I remember when you first mentioned this appointment how far away it seemed and now it’s just around the corner.
AFM, lengthy update below. If you can believe it, this is the shortened version
Due date: 3/8/2019
Appointments/questions: So my amniocentesis was supposed to be yesterday. They started off with a full anatomy scan, and even though it’s quite early, the tech was able to get good pics of everything except for the heart and some part of the brain. Doc said baby looks fantastic (her phrasing, and I’ll take it ) and that those two areas are just gestationally too early to photograph so I’ll have to go back in three weeks. When it was time for the amnio, doc looked me squarely in the eyes and asked me why I wanted to do it. I felt so relieved that she felt it wasn’t necessary that I decided to forego it on the spot. MH was not happy about the change in plans. He started interrogating the doc about statistics, asked to speak with the on-site genetic counselor (who came in and consulted with us), and requested that they contact the lab that did my NIPT and relay a series of questions regarding how they do their tests (he wants near certainty that the baby won’t have a worse variation of the condition we’re testing for). I was uncomfortable but the doc and genetic counselor were very gracious in how they handled the situation. I had very stern words with MH afterwards that his approach doesn’t help me. He is very logical, wants all the facts, pushes for 100% certainty continuously. I have the same concerns as him, but I have a threshold, after which I switch from information gathering to relying on faith; faith that we know as much as we can and what will be, will be. Baby is healthy, for which I am so grateful. He has an increased chance of Klinefelter Syndrome (NIPT was suggestive of 47XXY), which we’ll check for at birth. The genetic counselor did get answers from the lab right away and told us the Z-scores of the result indicate baby at most has 47XXY and nothing worse. MH and I are confident we can manage such a condition, but for now I’ll have to let him process this all his own way (he is still researching data and thinks an amnio is still on the table...this man is gonna drive me crazy )
Rants/raves: see above
How are you feeling? Not much to complain about physically, thank goodness.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? The few photo albums we have and our hardrives.
@navete I’m hoping and praying that everything checks out fine for you and this all amounts to nothing! However, I was just going to say that I actually know someone with Klinefelter’s syndrome and honestly you wouldn’t know if you weren’t told that he has it. He’s very tall though compared to his siblings Anyways, his sister is my good friend so as you get more information and answers if you have any questions feel free to message me and I will pass the questions along ❤️
@navete congratulations on a positive scan! And good for you for going with your gut and standing up for your decision! I hope your husband will come around to accept your decision too. I have a very data-driven, analytical-minded husband too and stubbornness seems to come with the package but at least your hearts are in the same place
@navete Wow. That’s a lot for you both to process, especially having different coping methods. I’m glad your doctor made you feel confident enough to forgo the amino.
Appointments/questions: My anatomy scan is a week from Thursday so we’ll find out if this is still a girl
Rants/raves: My MIL apparently couldn’t get my 16 month old to nap yesterday which I just don’t understand. I got home at 4:00 and I never saw him so exhausted before. He fell asleep on the couch with me at 5 and when I woke him for dinner he was miserable until he went to bed.
How are you feeling? I’m feeling pretty good
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets) I really don’t know. I guess some sentimental stuff from our wedding and Jack’s scrap book that has his birth certificate, handsprints etc.
@mamaoftwomonkeys Thank you, it’s really reassuring to hear about happy & healthy KS boys/men. Was your friend’s brother diagnosed early or in adulthood? I’ve read that many men are so unaffected that they are well into adulthood before something (perhaps unrelated) triggers the need for genetic testing.
@maggiemadeit It’s kind of a self-inflicted rollercoaster with our incongruent decision making, but I’m hopeful we’ll be on the same page soon.
@mayoduck The data-driven vs emotion-driven decision making is a constant tug-of-war in our household. I’ll have to hit you up for some of your coping tips
@swanbrooner I definitely appreciated the doctor’s approach and support. MH and I later speculated that perhaps she and the US tech teamed up to save a pregnant lady in distress from her pushy husband lol.
@chocolatelemons Do you have any mom intuition that baby may not be a girl? Either way, it’ll be exciting to finally confirm gender!
Due date: March 9 (my midwife told me we are officially using the ultrasound dating scan so I guess now I’m 2 days “behind”)
Appointments/questions: Had one last week and heard the little babies heartbeat at 142 it’s so nice to have reassurance! My sons heartbeat was in the 160s all the time so it was weird to hear it so much slower!
Rants/raves: Rave: We finally got a new car to us! I’m so excited!!! And it’s the car that I will primarily be driving I LOVE it! Rant: Things have been somewhat stressful at work this week
How are you feeling? I’m so thankful I’m finally off of zofran and on B6 and unisum I feel like a new person!!! It makes the biggest difference for me! I’m still so tired but I’m starting to feel the baby move more so that’s super exciting!
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) My sons baby book, my purse (because of my bank cards, etc), and probably I would have my cell phone on me to be honest. All of our important documents are in a flood/fire safe box.
Appointments/questions: just had a follow-up today. No ultrasound but HR with Doppler steady in the 150s.
Rants/raves: Rant-we’re doing a gender reveal this weekend because my mom never got to find out with me (I joke that she’s living vicariously through me). Well, my mom and MIL are the ones who are packing the box of balloons so they’re the only ones who know We were at MIL’s house Sunday for dinner and she legit almost slipped and said the gender (I swear she said “he”) but then got whiny when I covered my ears and said I didn’t want to know. My parents are paying for the reveal as a gift, and as usual, she loves to ruin my surprises. She called me days before DH proposed a few years ago to tell me I was getting a surprise that weekend.
How are you feeling? Occasionally getting nauseous but otherwise, pretty good.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!) Hmmm, I would say some of the pics of DH and I. We have a few in frames through the house and they’re my absolute favorites.
Rants/raves:Rave: Leaving for vacation with DH this Saturday! Going to visit his sister for a couple days then heading to Pensacola for the rest of the week. We have a beautiful condominium booked through AirBnB with a large oceanfront balcony. This month has been SO stressful with moving and work so we are really looking forward to this break.
How are you feeling? A lot better with the exception of not being able to sleep. We went to a wedding this weekend and DH and I danced the whole night! I forgot what it felt like to have energy. Lol.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!): Purse, car keys, phone, and flashdrive from our wedding (hopefully lol).
As someone who works in technology, it's a little cringe-y to see how many people need their computer or external storage to save their memories. Please don't only store something so precious on hardware, which can fail when you least expect it (says the girl who once begged her professor for an extension on a project she spent hours on but it only existed on her flashdrive, which she held in two irreparable pieces. No sympathy, my professor said I should have backed it up. Life lesson learned). There are plenty of cloud storage options now: Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Flickr, to name a few. Your memories are much safer and will remain so no matter what happens to your personal device.
^^I agree. While I don't love the idea of my photos being off somewhere in the cloud, it's so important to have multiple backups.
My phone broke last fall, and it hadn't been backed up since April. That means I lost all phone photos taken between April and October except what was on Facebook or emailed to others. My daughter was born in June. It was very disappointing. When I got a new phone, I downloaded Google photos, and now my photos back up to there automatically when I'm on wifi.
Appointments/questions: Heard a healthy heartbeat last Tuesday and anatomy is coming up on 10/16!
Rants/raves: rant: I worked a retreat this women and it was terrible. I was one of 2 people that signed up for gluten free meals (I am Celiac) but 8 people wanted to try gf food when they were there so multiple times by the time I was done working and could go eat, they were completely out of anything gf. I'm sorry, but if you are celiac you don't forget to sign up, and if there were only two of us, they should have known our names and said no to everyone else. I wanted to yell "who the f*** steals food from a pregnant lady!?!?!" saying sorry only counts the first time it happens. The fact that it happened multiple times??!! Complete bull. Rave: I got a pedicure today and it was amazing.
How are you feeling? Pretty good, but very lazy. I still want to nap all the time and I definitely don't want to help with house cleaning - - but I do anyway. An old hip injury is starting to make itself known, thank you hormones, and I get very regular 8 pm headaches, now.
GTKY: What would you grab first if your house was on fire? (Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!): While my dog would definitely run out on his own, my pet birds are in cages, so them. If that still doesn't count, my great grandmother's bracelet, or my medical grade set of essential oils (I use them for work and it took months of buying a few at a time to build up the collection).
@abbykwail I am celiac too and that would have sent me right over the edge! It is so hard to travel with celiacs. I don’t think most people realize how difficult it is to leave home and constantly worry about whether you can find something safe to eat, or if you will be taking a trip to the ER. And as if taking GF food from a celiac wasn’t bad enough, but they took food from a pregnant lady?? I seriously would have ended some people. I’m sorry you went through that. People suck.
@mschanandlerbong1214 Oh geez, what a rough week! I hope you’ve got someone helping you while YH is out of town. Wishing a speedy recovery for both you and DS2, and that DS1 avoids getting sick altogether.
@navete From Michigan and in Florida this week. My husband is at the Microsoft conference, so I came to relax. So bummed our last day is tomorrow and I’m still all stuffed up. Better and still improving but I’ve been sick since Sept 4th.
@maggiemadeit thank you for the empathy!!! I was really disappointed with the whole experience, and definitely will not be going back! Luckily I always bring a cooler with food I know is safe, but I still feel like since I paid to participate, I shouldn't have had to!!!! I mean honestly - there were only two people who signed up, the chef should have known who we were!
Re: Week 1 check in: 9/24
Appointments/questions: I don't have anything until October.
(Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!)
All of our valuables and sentimental items like photo flash drives are in a fire safe. I'd probably have to grab my wedding ring since I'm not wearing it!

Little boy due July 31st 2016
Appointments/questions: Oct 19 ultrasound!
Appointments/questions: none 10/17 and 10/18
Rants/raves: Rant: DS2 has HFMD.

Rants/raves:
Rave: VBAC consent form signed and submitted.
(Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!)
Definitely the hard drive with all of our wedding and family pictures!
Appointments/questions :Appt 10/9 anatomy scan
Rants/raves:
Rave: Fallish foods. I've never been a big pumpkin anything person. I mean PSl are ok but I'd nothing I dream about.. until now. Give me all the Pumpkin bagels lol
Rant: Work in general.
(Your spouse, kids and any other people in the house have already run out as well as your pets so no choosing that!)
Box of jewelry. It has all my grandmothers rings in it.
@navete So good to hear your scan went well.
@BuckeyeNut05 OMG I love the maple walnut. I didn’t even know hazelnut existed!
Appointments/questions: Nothing until 10/9.
Rants/raves: Rave: Leaving for vacation with DH this Saturday!
