Re: Randoms 9/24-9/30

  • Wow, this is part of the reason why we like to find out the sex in advance! I couldn't come up with 10 names for each gender (that I like enough to use) if my life depended on it! With DD we went to the hospital 98% sure of her name but we had one backup name just in case. We didn't tell anyone either name in advance. We will do the same this time - I don't want anyone's (IRL) opinion on our name(s) beforehand, so we won't share!

  • Haha I love the idea of giving out a fake name. Maybe we will  I also can’t imagine trying to come up with that many names we agree on... have had a hard enough time getting to one! I definitely don’t want the name(s) widely known but I can easily ignore judgey comments from MIL and DD sounds so darn cute when she says it in excitement about meeting him that it’s enough to be semi open about it. Just so annoyed with her!

  • I have been waking up an hour before my alarm clock every morning this week. Super annoying!
  • I’m so thankful for our boards! I feel like even if my opinion is different than someone else’s it’s okay here. That is hard to find especially online these days. I haven’t been on social media much or watching the news much (not that we watch much of it anyways) but I’m always glad when I read as I call them to DH “my bump boards”

  • My poor baby had another traumatic doctor visit today. I forget if I posted about the last one a few weeks ago, went in for suspected ear infection and we basically had to waterboard her to get enough wax out to confirm the infection. Today we went in for a nasty cough and fever and ended up getting steroids and a breathing treatment (as well as diagnosis for ongoing/new ear infection and croup!!).
I didn’t think anything could be worse than the ear rinsing drama but it took me and my husband holding her and the nurse holding the mask on her face to get *any* of the medicine in. She was screaming and crying the whole time, and spitting into the mask and trying to bite thru it to get it off. She seriously was like a zombie. Afterward she got to pick a bunch of stickers and have a popsicle, and then was dancing around the office.
Poor thing has barely ever been sick, started preschool after Labor Day and has been sick basically all month.

  • @mamakate1616 that’s so tough, but kids never seem to want what is good for them. I hope she feels better soon.

  • @mamakate1616 Ugh!! I hope your little one gets to feeling better soon! We had to give my son breathing treatments 3 times a day when he was around 3-4 months old he hated it and I felt horrible. I remember the ear wax story you told, those beginning of the school year germs are the worst!

Ok this is so silly but my very late Thankful Thursday is STILL this link at the bottom of the page that takes me directly back to our March 2019 Moms board. :D Tonight I just got a warm fuzzy feeling about this & how much time it saves. :D It replaces months of frustration. @mamakate1616 & @babycolima12 Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one, hahaha.

@meggyme & @mschanandlerbong1214 This mobile app is so glitchy that the Back button has never worked for me but thanks for trying to help.  :)

  • @mamakate1616 those breathing treatments are hard in the beginning. My son got them from six months till after he was three regularly. When he first started getting them my husband would have to help hold him down. When I was by myself I’d have wrap my legs around him because even at six months the kid was strong as hell. He got used to them and got to a point by around his first birthday he would ask for breathing treatments. He started to recognize why we were giving  them to him. We spent a week in the hospital due to his breathing issues in 2013, so I’m glad it’s not something you guys are messing around with. Here’s a picture of my younger brother helping me and distracting my chubby little baby while we did the dreaded breathing treatment.

  • @meggyme I have my first meeting with a doula tomorrow! I'm excited. I didn't use one for my delivery with DD so it's all new to me. I'm mostly looking forward to hearing about comfort measures / how she can support me during labour. Glad you had a good first meeting!

  • Any recommendations on finding a doula? No one I know has ever used one
    keikilove
  • @lindseyb918 Google any midwife or birth centers in your area.  They can tell you where to find a doula or give you a direct recommendation.

If there are any homeschooling resources in your community (like magazines or Meetups or playgroups) someone in that group can likely point you in the right direction.

You can also google “doula —insert your town/city name—“ and some resources should come up. They tend to have schools, trainings, & apprenticeships for doulas so there will be resources out there for you. You can (and should) interview them so you make sure you find someone you mesh with.  Best of luck!

  • @lindseyb918 I think I found my last doula through dona.org. They’re the certifying association for doulas.

  • @lindseyb918 I found mine by visiting doulamatch.net and lookin up all the doulas in my area. I then checked out how many births they've attended, how long they've been practicing, pricing info, as well as any other info from their own websites. I really liked the first one that I met today, she seems so down to earth and easy to talk to, I am pretty sure I'm going to go with her!
