At my 20 week appointment I was told I would need to come back at 24 weeks to recheck the babys size. Was a little small. I went back in today and was told everything was fine but the baby is small and they want me to come back in another 2 weeks to recheck the babys head size. They took blood work to test for a virus. I was so mind blown about the entire thing I didnt even catch what they were testing. Depending on what the next ultrasound shows they may recommend an amniocentesis. Has anyone else had anything similar. I've left a message for my OB to get her thoughts just wanted some others.
First of all, I’m very sorry for your situation and the stress it must be causing you. My son measured significantly small at the anatomy scan, about 3-4 weeks behind growth wise. I had follow up growth scans every 3 weeks for the rest of my pregnancy until I delivered at 34 weeks. He weighed 2lbs 10oz at birth. We had an amniocentesis done at my anatomy scan. His genetic results came back inconclusive, so he had no known chromosome deletions or duplications that would cause the issues he had.
My guess is that they tested you for toxoplasmosis and human cytomegalovirus (CMV), two infections that could potentially cause IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction). You may just have a small baby, too. Any babies that measure less than 10th percentile are catergorized as small for gestational age (SGA), but most of these babies have no issues. My story is the exception.
