I purchased a glider for the room that will be the nursery and have slowly been organizing some boxes of newborn stuff leftover from DS1. The future nursery is still without drywall on the walls though . I'm hoping that'll be a January/February project for DH and I!
Ha! We moved into our house a week before we found out we are expecting. It was a short sale, so there was some work to be done. We need to: 1. Finish painting- rest of downstairs, all the extra bedrooms (nursery included) and the guest bathroom. 2. New window treatments in a good portion of the house (we've bought some already) 3. Finish unpacking-it's only been 2 months, and I've been battling fatigue and nausea most of that time 4. Powerwash outside of house 5. Fix ice maker 6. Hang pictures/decor (what little I have, I've completely changed color schemes from our condo to this house, so I got rid of most decor) 7. Fix our bedroom door so it stays open This is just the list of things I can think of. We've already painted a good portion of the house, hung some window treatments, fixed the sprinkler system, hubby is obsessed with the lawn so he's done fertilizer/weed killer etc, with more to do, and replaced all the smoke detectors with Nest smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. Owning a home is a money suck, but I am so in love with this house, and so excited to bring our little boy home to it!
Well, there has been some progress. We finished painting the downstairs, still need to do 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. I’ve finished unpacking, and anything I didn’t want to unpack has been stored in the basement. We fixed the ice maker and bedroom door. We have put up some pictures/decor, but I really need to get some shelves and other furniture so that I can really decorate. DH also powerwashed part of the house, we don’t have a ladder to get the second story though. I’m tempted to hire that job and painting outside out to someone.
So many random tasks... We have a 3 bedroom and the baby's room is currently being transitioned from the office/guest room/craft area.. so there's lots of going thru stuff and getting rid of or re purposing things happening right now.. lol! So for that to all happen, we are shifting the living room to be the family room and the family room to be more of the office/homework/play area with a sleeper sofa.. Hopefully it all gets done by the end of April..
We are doing a total home remodel in the next few months and just starting to realize that we’re crazy. Ceilings are mostly done, now to get light fixtures finalized, walls done and painted, some finishing touches like plate covers, and we’ll have the floors refinished. So sick of living in this house that is partially finished, we’ve been remodeling since 2014. No we can’t afford it, so we’re doing some ourselves and borrowing/taking from family for the rest.
Well, the fence is finished. DD's room has been converted (but still has a glider in there that we need to move but can't yet).
Our handyman is coming next week to finish up mudding/sanding the basement. I'm hoping we can buy floors this weekend and paint the week after and do flooring over my Christmas break. I'm hoping that the entire project is done by mid January then I can transition some toys to the basement from our living room and soon to be nursery, move baby stuff out of the basement and start cleaning it and therefore; start working on getting his room together.
I hope we can get the shelving done in the garage before DS arrives. DH has been parking in our driveway for most of this year and I'd like for him to be able to park his car in the garage.
Landscaping the front yard may have to wait until after LO is here, so maybe early summer-ish. I know DH is itching to get it done but I just don't see how I'm going to want to do it the month before DS arrives or the month or two after. Unless he enlists our families to help...
@sheepshepherdess We are doing the some of the same remodeling! It’s become a bit overwhelming! The popcorn ceiling in our bathroom is now gone and the remodel is nearly complete. I love that the baby has pushed us to finish projects.
We have yet to: Finish main floor bathroom (really, hire a plumber and hvac to install radiator) remodel basement paint the dining room, living room and master bedroom. Thaw our freezer Organize, organize, organize
Oh man, have I really appreciated this nesting I've been going through. Projects over a year old have been getting done around here now that I have a fire lit under my butt. This second trimester energy is something I wish I had everyday for forever. I care for my 91 year old grandmother, as well as help my mom co-parent my 10 year old niece. So even though I'm a FTM, some days I feel like this is really baby number three! Haha. It's a very full house but only 3 bedrooms so I'm doing a lot of organizing, and compacting.
1) Clear out the garage. - Over a year ago, we emptied a storage unit into our garage and it has been a war zone in there ever since. Holiday decorating has made this chore a lot more complicated though 2) Clean all the closets. - I've gotten half of them done so far! Because we are using our bedroom closet for baby, I've had to move our clothes to one of the hallway closets. Not super convenient for us, but its a worthy sacrifice when you're limited on space. 3) Make minor adjustments to our bedroom closet. - Boyfriend and I are thrilled to have baby on the way but our room is tiny even though we only use a full sized bed. We plan to take off our closet door, and set up a mini crib in our closet for our baby girl. We want to add shelves and paint as well. Add a curtain to replace the door. I just pray boyfriend has the patience to build the crib in such a small space! 4) Repaint our room. - This we are most excited about. Even though its our room too, we really want the experience of painting a nursery area. We are probably going to pick a good adult color and do an accent wall for baby. Still we want something fresh and new for her to come home too. 5) Rearrange the kitchen cabinets! - I probably wont get this done till after the baby shower but I need to clear out the small cabinet closest to the sink so I can take it over with baby bottles and breast pump stuff. 6) Take CPR Classes - It's been a while since I've taken one and I'd really love to take one again. It would be absolutely beneficial in every aspect of my life since I'll be balancing the care of my grandmother and a newborn. 7) Donate everything that no one is using! - Supposedly people in this house have been holding on to their stuff that they never use anymore because they plan to sell it. Well this garage sale that is supposed to happen hasn't happened in two years so I've been loading things into bags and tossing them into my car! Just gotta find the right donation bins to take them to!
Oh man... the list could go on, and I'm supposed to be in the garage working!
1. Popcorn ceilings removed and walls/ceiling repainted in DD’s room so we can move her out of the nursery prior to baby 2.
2. We need our siding completely replaced. We are saving up for that next.
3. Master bathroom functions as a half bath right now, but the carpet is torn up because the floor needs to be replaced, as well as the shower. Frankly I’m grateful I can use it to pee in the middle of the night without having to walk far, but it’s a mess in there.
4. New doors, windows.
5. New interior doors, door handles.
6. New countertop, new fridge, paint cabinets.
7. We also have some foundation issues.
We may or may not complete all the above in the next few years. We do want to fix the major stuff so it sells. So like the foundation and siding, windows and doors. Interior cosmetics are less of a concern. We’ve been in this house four years and all we’ve managed to do is redo the laundry room, update and paint the nursery, and install a new hvac. However we are attempting to this without debt, so it’s a slow process.
- My husband has accomplished fixing a vent that fell down in the wall of the bedroom we and baby will be in and he has been working on cleaning and insulating our attic. We will be in a room that has attic space on two sides of the room, so it's nice that he's working on this project. Is he nesting? Haha - My husband's car either needs fixed or replaced. It's been 2 or 3 months since it's been running and he wants to do the work himself. He's not a mechanic but I appreciate that he wants to save money. - I want to install carpet trim (the metal thing that holds the carpet down where it transitions to tile, wood, etc.) around our house because I don't like the way it looks now and I don't want our house to be judged during the baby shower (not that guests would notice or care anyway). We took up the carpet in our house in 2015 because the previous owner said there was oak flooring underneath. We discovered what she meant was: There is unfinished, water damaged, paint splattered, wood flooring underneath the carpet. And it happens to be oak.
So much on the list. We just moved into the house less than a year ago and I'll just say that there was shag carpet in the bathroom if that tells you anything. That was gone day 2 and we just finished redoing all the upstairs flooring and painting.
1. Remove the kitchen carpet and get the tile cleaned up. 2. Scrub the walls in the entryway of the wallpaper glue so we can paint. 3. Powerwash the siding. 4. Get the garden cleared out in the next month since fall is finally here. 5.Organize the garage. 6. Organize the basement
So so many things lol. Cant way we didnt know what we were walking into. We just really loved this house despite the 50s decor.
I'm glad this thread was resurrected as well! We did end up getting the garden completely cleaned up so that we can start fresh next year and the garage was organized. Other than that we're still working on stuff. The kitchen carpet was started but then we found sub-floor underneath instead of the tile we thought was there so that project is on hold until we renovate that floor. Biggest things now are the basement (goes along with getting all the baby stuff out and ready to go), and scrubbing the walls. That's going to be my after the holiday project though. I'm just lazy when it comes to scrubbing walls.
