History of low progesterone and cramping

Hey everyone!

My husband and I just found out we're pregnant after 16 months of ttc. I have PCOS and have a history of low progesterone. I've been cramping for 3 days and having horrible diarrhea and I'm a bit scared. We had a miscarriage at 5 weeks 2 years ago likely from low progesterone.

I'm going to try to call my doctor's office tomorrow but I have no clue if they'll put in an order for me to get an hcg and progesterone. Is cramping like a period normal in early pregnancy or am I likely to lose this baby too?

Re: History of low progesterone and cramping

  • I found out that I'm pregnant Sept. 1st (I was about 5 weeks then). That same day I started cramping frequently and brown spotting frequently throughout the days up until about 4 days ago. My doc ordered me a progesterone test which came back normal. She said it is either progesterone causing the spotting and cramping or it's normal because the cervix is so sensitive at this point in early pregnancy with everything getting adjusted to baby being in there. If you're spotting and it's brown, that's usually an OKAY sign. If it's red or pink and/or heavy it could be something more serious. It's a good idea to call your doc immediately to have your progesterone tested, but also try to relax and think happy thoughts. I noticed my cramping would worsen under stress. I hope your symptoms are normal and you can feel relief soon! Something that randomly helped my cramping was 100% cranberry juice (the nasty bitter stuff). Its hard to swallow but I have been drinking a small glass a day and it makes me feel good. Good luck! 💛
