Meh. Sleeping sucks. I think last night was mostly okay, but generally I wake up every couple hours as I'm turning over these days. And of course my sciatica continues to be a pain in the ass (pun intended )
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Our 3rd wedding anniversary is next Monday, the 17th. We always go out for dinner on our anniversary, but it was a weekend day the last couple years. And we've always gone to the restaurant where we were married. Well the chef/owner opened a new restaurant and officially closed the other one. So this year is way different for us, and it kind of sucks. We'll be going to his new restaurant sometime over the weekend when my dad can babysit since I doubt anyone we know (that actually lives close by) is willing to babysit on a Monday evening. Not sure which day yet, left it up to my dad as far as which night works best for him. We did both take Monday off though to just spend the day together while our son is at daycare, so I'm excited about that.
Side rant about restaurant: he also got a REALLY good unsolicited offer apparently and sold the original restaurant building, so even if he does relocate and reopen eventually (like planned), it still won't be the same. And, as the cherry on top, our first date restaurant (Houlihan's) also closed the location we went to this year, so we've been kind of bummed all year about both of those being gone.
Dear diary I guess? I'm so ready for colder weather. Not insanely cold, but just enough that I can justify wearing sweaters lol.
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week?
Tonight: Alton Brown's Fish Sticks
Wednesday: tacos
Thursday: chicken Philly cheesesteak
Friday: our usual steaks (unless my dad decides to baby sit that night...)
No new symptoms really. I actually feel better than last week, because I finished a round of antibiotics on Friday. Still, it’s getting harder to get around, and my back hurts by the end of the day, but such is life, I suppose
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
I bough those bun donut forms for DD, to make it easier to do her hair for ballet. This morning she insisted on the biggest one for school. It looks ridiculous, but it’s not my hair so...
How far along are you? How big is baby? 27 weeks tomorrow, size of lettuce. I’m assuming romaine.
How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms? Just sore. Sciatic pain is back a bit (managable, but back) and my back apparently gets sore on walks now too. Hellooooo 3rd trimester.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Dear diary, the doulas are supposed to visit tonight to go over everything important before birth. I also need to figure out when to do my hospital visit. Looks like it’s not going to happen before H leaves.
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week? Last night was spaghetti alla carbonara, tonight is southwestern butternut squash soup, later in the week is tomato-sausage risotto and ribollita.

Rant about extended family- it's becoming apparent to me that certain family members think they know better than doctors/manufacturers, and are possibly going to disregard blatant safety measures when it comes to this kid. Said people aren't going to watch her if they can't follow directions, and it's just occurring to me how hard it's going to be to navigate that. Any STM/TTM's have any advice? We will be straight up with our reasoning if it comes to that, but if there's a way to avoid WWIII, that would be helpful!
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week? No idea. You guys are so good with your meal planning- last night I ate a bowl of grapes for dinner. I guess tonight will be whatever sounds good, maybe a peanut butter and banana sandwich?
@Hollyyyyy we close on oct 9! I'm super excited but need to get it together as far as packing! Also, i don't have any experience, but I've been working really hard on setting boundaries and expectations for my family and in-laws about what will and will not happen when the baby is born. it's so hard, especially as a ftm to figure out.
@CecilB93 Congrats on your upcoming anniversary!
@runrinserepeat Taco Tuesday por vida!
@PensiveCrayon Oy, I need to schedule hospital visits too.
@morgantu I’ve never played with jackfruit - I need to keep my eyes out for some.
@Hollyyyyy Lay down the law! I also won’t be leaving my kid in unsafe conditions. No advice from me though, we won’t be leaving kiddo with family (and running into issues) for at least a year.
How far along are you? How big is baby?
27 weeks tomorrow - six months! He's about 14" long.
How are you feeling this week? Decent! Heartburn-y, achey back, ready for cooler weather.
Any new symptoms?
This little guy has figured out how to squish things around so that I feel internal pressure on my solar plexus. It's not painful, just annoying. Could *maybe* be a hiatal hernia, but probably isn't. I'll bring it up at my next appointment regardless.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Dear Diary, right now Neapolitan ice cream is life. I bought a box of store brand ice cream sandwiches and shamelessly eat two for dessert. Hell, I think I'll have one after I post this reply
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week? Not sure exactly, I've been out of the meal planning habit since the first tri. Tonight I'm going to conjure something along the lines of pressure cooked seasoned drumsticks and rice. It's a versatile & basic dinner combo, but always delicious and easy. I've been all soups lately and I know DH prefers solid meals (but never complains about my soups!).

Y'all, we don't meal plan anymore. It's the same every week. Tuesday is always tacos, Wednesday is always make your own pizza. Then we get stuff to grill on Monday or Thursday, and the other day is something easy like spaghetti or grilled cheese. Saturday is another make your own pizza night, Sunday is usually take out, and Friday we're usually eating with my family so we plan last minute depending on where we are.
I wish we had more of a regular on Monday and Thursday, because even the toss up of 1 of 3 meals is just a lot of thinking lately.
We only loosely meal plan so we know what groceries to get each weekend. It keeps us from buying a ton of extra (and wasting money) or from not having stuff on hand (and ending up eating out/fast food). Our plans definitely change, but we usually think about 5-6 meals we'd like that week and then as the week goes on we figure out what we're feeling each day lol. DH is better about saying this on this night and that on that night, I'm kind of more in the mindset of whatever sounds good that day lol.
@runrinserepeat I like trying new recipes too much to do a week on repeat like that! Also I tend to get tired of meals really quickly. It’s a curse.
This month i made up my entire meal plan in my bullet journal, so I’m not having to scramble at the end of each week. I’m patting myself on the back for it.

@PensiveCrayon nobody eats what I make anyway, if I deviate from the plan much. I made chili last week, and I was the only one who ate it What's nice is that there's wiggle room in everything - tacos are sometimes fajitas, sometimes taco salad, sometimes actual tacos. MYO Pizza is different every single time we do it, because we put whatever we've got laying around on the pizza. Grill food is whatever looks good that week, pasta can be different noodles, different sauces, etc, and grilled cheese, nom. We're from WI and so there's usually a bunch of fun different cheeses in our fridge at any point, which adds to the variety. We also mix up the bread we use, and the sides.
26w2d. My baby seems to have shrunk from being the size of a wine bottle to the size of a cabbage. According to the internet anyway.
How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms?
So I think I pulled a muscle in my butt while cleaning yesterday. That is my biggest issue currently. It woke me up at 5am and it hurt so bad I just got up and took a shower. I fell asleep on the couch for a little while but bah! I’m tired.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
We are going to see a bunch of houses tonight! Fun!
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week?
Man I wish I had an answer to this question. Usually I meal plan and go to the store on sundays but dh has been working so much I haven’t been able to go. Tonight we’re having spaghetti but the rest of the week is up in the air.
@Hollyyyyy I think for me it would depend on what rule they are breaking. Like, refusing safe sleep rules, my baby would not be sleeping there when I’m not around. Food rules (as they get older) I’m looser on and would be ok with kiddo getting special treats at grandma’s within reason. So I guess safety rules are my hard line. If you can’t follow those rules you don’t get baby alone. Also your bowl of grapes made me laugh. If I’m not careful I will do something like that and then end up starving and hangry and mad at dh for no reason lol.
@echo-charlietango I’ve been on an ice cream sandwich kick too. Yum! The cheap ones with just the chocolate cakey stuff on the outside are the best. I can’t bother with the big cookie ones.
@rosebud332 Sorry you pulled your butt - few things are worse than an actual pain in the glute. And yes, chocolate cakey outsides are the best, cookies are far too much for me...especially when I require two sandwiches for dinner

We meal plan the same as @CecilB93. Try to figure out a bunch of things that sound good, work with our schedule, and sometimes go with the weather (trying not to use the oven when it's hot). It's helped a lot with saving money, food waste, and I don't have to stop at the store every day anymore, which is great.
@rosebud332 Ha apparently my baby shrunk this week, too. Stupid growth comparisons. Yes, the possible concerns I have are sleep-related. It just raises red flags to me. If everything we choose to do (or not do), is going to be an arguement, and you clearly think you know better than manufacturers or doctors, then I don't feel comfortable leaving my kid with you. End of story. It's just not a situation I thought we would find ourselves in, but the more comments are made, the more I'm thinking that it's a real possibility that we won't be able to trust leaving our kid with my IL's, and that's just going to lead to a huge blow up. It sucks
Agreed that these size comparisons aren’t making much sense anymore...one app says eggplant or 23cm (we get smaller eggplants than that here), another says kale or 33cm but eggplant in a couple of weeks.
How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms?
I feel tired! +1 for sleep sucking. Last night I woke up again to go to the bathroom and walked into the wall...my face hurts!
Managing back pain ok with exercises from my physiotherapist.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Work is going to be so busy this month and into October. I don’t have time for this, all I want to do is prepare for baby!
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week?
I don’t plan that well. I have left over quinoa so I’ll eat that tonight with some farm greens that I get weekly. Beyond that I have no idea.
How is big is baby? I don’t know - I never keep track anymore.
Symptoms? I’m so tired lately. My 19 month old wants to be carried / held all the time lately, and walking around with him on my hip is killing me. I get so out of breath walking up the stairs and just want to go to bed as soon as I get home from work!
Rants / Raves etc. I work in a small non profit and one employee is really not Pulling her weight. It means the rest of us have to pick up the slack all the time. I’m sick of doing my job plus half of hers!
meals this week? I’ve been so bad about meal planning this month. During the summer I don’t have to worry about it! I work at a summer camp from June - August so someone else is responsible for making The meals AND the cleanup! Now that we’re home and my big kids are back to school and sports schedules, I hardly have time to make a plan. This week they had practice Monday and Wednesday, and Tuesday I had a late meeting at work. So anyways we’ve just been grabbing whatever we can find for dinner.
@CecilB93 Happy Anniversary! I hope you guys enjoy the new restaurant- It's a total bummer you guys won't be able to go to the same spot year after year but hopefully this place is just as good and you can start a new tradition there.
@rosebud332 ouch! sorry about your butt! Also, good luck house hunting!
How far along are you? How big is baby? I'll be 27 weeks on Saturday. I don't know... big- at least that's how he feels!
How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms? Nothing new. Exhausted, acid reflux is getting worse, I think I need to up my Zantac to 2x a day. My hips feel like they're splitting in half and baby's new favorite hangout spot is my lungs and it's awful.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Dear Diary, I still have a week before my hubby comes home and I'm questioning how we will all survive. I'm having a maid service come the day before he gets home because between hurricane prepping, the kids being home from school all day again, and the clingy toddler- I just can't. I never got my 2nd trimester energy and now I'm going into my 3rd trimester so it's just gonna get worse! I need a live in nanny.
On a positive note, I finished painting the baby's room today and I'm obsessed with it.
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week? Oh man, let's see if I can remember.
Monday- Thai Chicken
Tuesday: Tacos
Wednesday: We went to my girlfriend's house and grilled burgers and hot dogs
Thursday: Crockpot Creamy Ranch Chicken
Friday: Either leftovers or going out to Buffalo Wild Wings, depending on how bad we're getting hit by Florence.
Saturday: Same as Friday... Whichever one we don't do, I'll switch!
TIRED. Insomnia is kicking my butt. So is heartburn. I toss and turn nonstop every time I lay down.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
We were at my MIL’s this week when the topic of Christmas came up. I’m due Dec. 13th & told everyone I’ll be busy at home nursing a newborn all day. My mother in law insists I’ll “bounce back really fast” because this is my second kid, and claims the whole family will just come to me & I can host at my house.. She’s funny. Pray for me y’all.
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week?
I’m horrible at meal planning lately, so I have no idea. DH & I decided we’re getting Publix subs tonight though, because footlongs are on sale for $5.99 for the next 2 weeks. If you live in the south, you know how amazing this is.
@mrsm224 omg at your mil volunteering you for Christmas. We already told both families we aren't traveling and will be staying home as a family. My parents did invite themselves for thanksgiving though. But I told them they're welcome to come, but I'm not doing the cooking (or the cleaning for that matter). How did you respond?!?! What did yh say?
@morgantu I just kind of awkwardly laughed it off and said “you think so?” I think maybe she meant it as a compliment to my mothering abilities, insinuating that is actually have my sh!t together that quickly... but I was so caught off guard she even said it.
@mrsm224 LOL at your MIL. Christmas sounds like it will be a bundle of fun over there. Also, I live in AL and have yet to get myself a Publix sub, though I hear so many good things about them! Where are you in the south...was it FL that I read in your intro?

@mrsm224 that sounds like something my MIL would do too. I’m due on the 13th as well and I’ve already tried to start the conversation with my husband about how we are NOT going to the big family Christmas thing that his mom makes a huge deal of with a newborn baby this year.
@mrsm224 It does sound like a compliment to me but yeah that sounds a little overwhelming for you to have to deal with right after baby! I hope you're able to tell her how you feel!
@MissAmber23 I totally get this. I told my husband he needs to explain to his parents that they can't stay at our house after we get out of the hospital. My parents live 6 minutes down the road and they are more than welcome there. But I want time with my husband and my baby and don't need to be hosting anyone while attempting to learn to breastfeed.
@PensiveCrayon oh my, you HAVE to try one!! We had Subway last week for the first time in years and I was so disappointed. Nothing else compares to a pub sub. And yes, FL! I’m on the west coast, about 35 mins from Tampa.
@mrsm224 I know how you feel! I have to turn so often in bed and the heartburn has started right on cue at 27 weeks 0 days.
I have a tiny family and DH is not too close to his so I don’t have any issues with relatives wanting to do Christmas with us. But I am worried about random unannounced drop ins...his parents can be liked that. When I started a new job they just stopped in to check it out and introduced themselves to my coworkers (I wasn’t there at the time).

Managing back pain ok with exercises from my physiotherapist.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Work is going to be so busy this month and into October. I don’t have time for this, all I want to do is prepare for baby!
GTKY: What’s for dinner this week?

Sunday: Homemade pizza night.
How far along are you? How big is baby?
27+1; bananas I think?
How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms?
TIRED. Insomnia is kicking my butt. So is heartburn. I toss and turn nonstop every time I lay down.

I’m horrible at meal planning lately, so I have no idea. DH & I decided we’re getting Publix subs tonight though, because footlongs are on sale for $5.99 for the next 2 weeks. If you live in the south, you know how amazing this is.
I think maybe she meant it as a compliment to my mothering abilities, insinuating that is actually have my sh!t together that quickly... but I was so caught off guard she even said it.
