September Appointments

Re: September Appointments

  • Saw my midwife today,  nothing overly exciting happened.  I have a fetal echocardiogram next week and another ultrasound on 9/25, i've got a busy month!
  • Loading the player...
  • I had an appointment this last week at 21wks. Have to do the nasty GTT on my next appt which dreadfully after I get off work at 7am. Thankfully it's just down the parking lot away. I was also told I'd be referred at 36 wks to a high risk specialist out of town since I had preeclampsia with our first & PPH. Hopefully everything checks out fine. OB wants to schedule an induction at 37-38 wks.
  • Just had my appointment with my CNM. Weight had jumped a little more than expected from last time but nothing too crazy. I was worried about my blood pressure because I've been anxious/stressed af lately but it was totally normal. We could hear him moving around a ton when the nurse was taking his heartbeat and she said she could see his movements from the outside which is new for me! My next appointment is the Glucose Test and then after that I switch to every two weeks. I can't believe how fast this is going! (while simultaneously feeling like I've been pregnant my entire life)
  • @kaf1788 THIS. How is it going so slow & so fast at the same time?!?!?!
  • Anatomy scan was a bit of a production today. Scans for 30 min then a break to eat, drink, and walk around for 30 min. Then scans for a bit. Then an hour long break. Then more scans. Over 2.5 hours but they got all the pictures they needed in the end. Hopefully I’ll get results soon and all is well.

Next week’s appointment will hopefully be a quick one! Just the usual check-up. Hoping my blood pressure is back to normal now that the amnio stress is done!

  • @emmaaa
First, I was glad to see that you and your family are safe!
Second, I'm jealous of your 7 lb weight gain, haha. I think I must be at around 16 lbs right now.
The doc's concern could be due to the average math of pregnancy - so much weight in blood, so much in uterus, so much on the chest, amniotic fluid, baby, etc. It's all guidelines! As long as you and baby are healthy, then meh to weight gain!
  • Had my appointment yesterday and had my glucose screening. The drink itself wasnt terrible, I had the orange drink. But I did feel bad afterwards with some dizziness and headaches. I don't remember feeling that way with DS1. I find out today if I passed. Also got an order form for my Tdap which the doc said to wait until closer to 30 weeks to get. Next appointment is in 4 weeks!

  • @leighbrek Thanks! We are very fortunate to have been missed for the most part!

I'd rather them bring it up and see if there is something we should do to fix it or just to make sure I'm fine than to brush it off. I did explain to him that when I was pregnant with my daughter, by the time she was born I didn't gain any weight. I was about 40 pounds heavier than I was when I got pregnant this time, I lost about 15 pounds in the first tri, and then slowly gained it back through the rest of the pregnancy so I was back to where I started. It's weird how everyone's body is so different too. I feel much bigger this time around though

  • @galactickates and @emmaaa I started out a little overweight and have gained about 7lbs (it fluctuates) but baby is healthy (and I am hanging in there, ha). I imagine that most of the weight gain will happen in that last two month period as baby gains a bunch of weight!

  • Saw the midwife today, and it was good. She started measuring the belly, and it's measuring right on target. Baby's HB was strong, and the baby kept hitting the doppler wand, which was funny.
I'm about 2lbs over expected weight gain for 25 weeks, but she told me not to stress much about it. Just stick to water - no juice or anything, and ease back on carb intake. So far so good, apart from the glucose test coming up. Blech.

I had my monthly checkup with the NP. She wasn’t that worried about the baby’s size and says there’s likely nothing I can do about it since I’ve only gained 5 pounds so far and my blood sugar control is good. I was already going to have growth scans to monitor how he grows and I’m definitely getting induced by 38 weeks.

Sometimes I feel like they don’t look at my chart before they walk in though. They asked me twice if I had scheduled my GTT yet.

Next up is the fetal echo next week.

  • Had a good cervix check on Friday. Still at 4.5 cm, so the doctor I saw said they aren't going to do any more checks. That makes me really nervous, since we caught it by accident with DD. I finally see my regular OB in two weeks so I will ask her what she thinks about it too.

  • I have my normal ob appt on Thursday and then she'll finally give the orders to get another ultrasound to check the spine (they couldn't get good pics of it 3 weeks ago at my AS). Kind of antsy to see baby girl again. I'm sure she'll be bigger!
  • Has anyone had their glucose test?

I have the sheet about going in for it, but it says 24-28 weeks. I'll likely go in next week to do it, which will be 24 weeks. Did you have a specific question? I have done one before when I was pregnant with DD.

  • I have my 24 week US today :) it's for zika monitoring, since we were in Mexico a few months before getting pregnant, but they ahven't been concerned and the everything is developing as it should. Even though everything has been good so far and no one is concerned anymore, they're continuing with the ultrasounds every 4 weeks and I'm not complaining!!
Then Friday I have my next OB appointment, and it's with the OB that delivered DD :)

I have mine scheduled for 3 weeks from today. I'm not super concerned since my doctor made me take it around 9 weeks and I was nowhere near being high. But things change so hopefully it'll go good!
  • @angheat I think most places do that test around 28 weeks, or at least that's standard practice where I am in the Midwest.

Today i have my next OB appt. I had an ultrasound on Wednesday and everything looked fine, although he's on the slightly bigger side at 66% for body size and 70% for head size. It really wouldn't concern me, but my husband was a 12lbs baby and I DO NOT want DS to get that big! I also don't want him to come early for insurance purposes, so I hope he grows just right on track. He was measuring 5 days ahead on the ultrasound, but really...that doesn't mean much. DD measured about a week ahead all the time and she was 5 days late.

  • @sweetyjenj 12 lbs!!! omg. I'll keep you in my thoughts. lol
I'm just kidding. Hopefully baby evens out to being right on track. There's still time!
  • Standard OB appointment yesterday. It was a great appointment, and I went ahead and scheduled with the midwives for next time since I’m feeling more chill. My blood pressure was impressively low, so that’s nice! (I was induced a week early with DD because of high BP and had a few near misses with having to be induced even earlier)

Weight gain was again more than I would
have liked, but my OB was really great about it. She basically said that I’m already doing everything she’d tell me to do and to stop weighing myself daily. We’ll make sure I hopefully don’t have GD and as long as that test is fine, the weight gain will just be what it is and I need to just let it go. Which I needed to hear. I may ask H if I can just put away the scale and he can take it out when he needs it. I’m going to go in for my glucose test Tuesday morning to get that taken care of and hopefully off my mind.

HB sounded great, and I assume fundal height was good since the measured and didn’t say anything. We had some good laughs about mood swings.  because again, she’s awesome. Then I opted to get my flu shot this time, and she told me that I’ll get TDAP next time. And that next appointment it’ll be time to start thinking about delivery and stuff! :grimace: (I don’t go in for 5 weeks, so I’ll be 28 weeks, and I think they have you fill out their birth plan document around then so it can be on file.) She also talked about the fact that they’ve changed things a bit and if I’m looking at induction again, they’re doing more “outpatient” things for the beginning of those. Though if it’s a BP issue again, I likely wouldn’t qualify.

Anyway, lots to think about but a good appointment! sorry I rambled!

  • Doctor said I need to eat less sugar lol I've gained 21lbs so far, and I have honestly believed a lot of it is from eating more sugar than I planned. I ate way less candy when I was pregnant with DD and gained 30-35lbs, and this time that's my same goal. I have 15 weeks. If I increase the number of workouts I do each week and cut way back on my candy snacking, I think it'll be ok :)  Also, I think I've lately been eating more carbs (albeit I eat healthy carbs, like quinoa, whole grain, oatmeal) than anything else, and that can be cut back, too, in favor of better foods.

  • @sweetyjenj I had 20 lbs on at my 25 week appointment too. I haven't changed anything from my pre-pregnancy diet when I was a stick, but I've been for sure not getting the same amount of exercise ( pretty tough to do aerial silks or pole fitness while pregnant).
Hate it so much. Totally not used to having to worry about weight.
  • @AshVA I am so happy for you!!!!
  • @AshVA I am so happy for you!!!!
Thanks! Sometimes I feel like I'm a broken record going on about the itching on here lol. Hopefully I'll be able to stop soon!

  • @leighbrek that's similar to me! I am a healthy eater and was low-average for weight. Now suddenly doctor tells me I'm gaining too fast and to watch what I'm eating. I'm eating too much sugar, but I have ADHD and can't take my usual meds or drink coffee, so my brain craves sugar as a replacement. And honestly, ME eating too much sugar is probably similar to other people eating normal sugar. My budb just wants to gain weight I guess.

  • @sweetyjenj Rough! It sounds like you have a plan, though! I know I'm not a doctor or whatever, but I kind of feel like as long as the weight doesn't go insanely out of control, it's really not that big of a deal. Know what I mean? So we're a couple lbs over expected weight gain at this point, but anything could happen over the next few weeks. Obviously watch the sugar, keep up the effort to exercise, but don't stress about a few lbs. It's far from being in a danger zone.
  • Had an OB appointment Tuesday at 25+2. My blood pressure was impressively low (It has been for several of my appointments - which is such a surprise since if anything I'm heavier and eating worse than I did with DD1). HB was nice and strong because this baby is crazy active allll the time. I talked to my OB for a while about the transition when she moves to her new practice (I'll have my 28 and 30 week appointments at the same office) and she basically said we would be figuring out things together but that shes appreciative that I trust her and am following her there.

They were going to give me the glucose challenge drink for my next appointment but since I failed the first time (by 5 points) and had just taken the 3 hour GTT that morning she said I'm off the hook.

My OB never called me about my 3 hour GTT results which usually means good news. I got my results through the lab portal this morning and I passed with flying colors! My sugar after 1 hour was only 140. My fasting was right on the cut off line but I'm assuming it's a non-issue.

  • Anyone have a baby that is hanging out transverse? The said she was at my AS at 21 weeks, and based on her movements I think she still is. I don’t think either of my other two kids ever sat this way this late. If she is still transverse next week at 26 weeks I may start seeing a pregnancy chiropractor to see if some adjustments may help her turn the right way.
  • @beachmama14 mine was breach at 24 weeks last week, but I remember DD taking a while to move into proper position.
