Re: Bouncing Baby Check-in (Week of Aug 31)
1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week?
35w2d gestational; Just shy of 6w in real world experience
We started bottle feeding last Friday, and he is getting the hang of it. I know all Moms say this, but he is such a sweet baby that all the nurses at the hospital love checking in on him.
2) How are you feeling, Mom?
Exhausted. I literally turned my alarm off in my sleep for my midnight pumping session last night. Then I did it again when it went off at 6am. I’m going to have to put it across the room from me.
3) Rants / Raves / Questions?
Did I mention that all the nurses love my baby?
Also, my hospital offers a car seat installation service which I took advantage of yesterday. That was so totally worth it. Not only did she go over how to install the carseat in the car, but she also went over how to install the baby in the car seat. Max didn’t care for the first round of being put in the car sear, but he was good after a couple of minutes.
4) GTKY: Where will you take your first family vacation with baby?
Road Trip! I’m thinking Holland, Michigan. I went up there a few years ago with Guncle, and would love to go back in a bit more leisurely fashion. Although, does baby allow for leisurely on any vacation?
1) How old is baby; any milestones or brags this week? 5 weeks old yesterday (and 1 month last Sunday yay!), 31 weeks and 4 days
2) How are you feeling, Mom? Great, I was really concerned about my BM supply and had started eating more oatmeal and drinking Mrs. Patel's tea but I spoke to a friend who had a 30 weaker told me when she got home she'd have to pump after nursing because he was only taking 2 oz each feed when he was discharged so I stopped taking the extras lol.
3) Rants / Raves / Questions? Little man is starting to try and pull out his breathing tube so they're going to need to make a decision about extubating him. He's also pooping now (yay!) and taking full feeds (which for my tiny guy is 12ml). Today he'll have an echo to see if his PDA closes or he'll have to have surgery (not open heart). At this point I'd almost rather they do the surgery and be done with it because I know it's causing a lot of his problems.
4) GTKY: Where will you take your first family vacation with baby? Disney. We should've gone in August, September, and had planned to go November and December so we're already behind on our Disney schedule lol. Depending on his health we may still go in December for our anniversary. It's just so baby/mom friendly and we can pace ourselves.

Such a great update!
The OT told me that grabbing the tubes and wires is a reflexive comfort thing. However, I also noticed that when they switched Max from CPAP to High-Flow, he pulled on his cannula a lot less often. Now that the cannula is gone, he occasionally goes after his feeding tube.
Also- I totally get being freaky about your BM supply. I’m not short, but seriously, I spend more time worrying about that just because it feels like something I should be able to have some control over.
And yes- from what I have learned 2-3oz at a feeding is pretty typical. I was told that in the last day or so in the NICU, they let the babies take what they will, which should be 45-55mL per feeding. 55mL = 1.86oz
It's so good to hear positive reports about the babies, can't wait to continue hearing updates and healthy progress! Hang in there mamas!
