  • @meggyme My doc told me sushi was fine because it’s all flash frozen initially. Only the really nice places where they fly it in (or catch it right there on the coast) would be problematic. She drew a hard line about lunch meat but I hate it so didn’t hurt my feelings!!

  • @3rdtime_charmed I mean, it's not like I'm eating gas station ham sandwiches... Mostly I get a sandwich from the cafeteria in my building. I try to steer clear of their salads because sometimes their daily premade ones can look a little off color. But otherwise, anywhere that I'd have eaten before I eat at now.

  • I haven't restricted my eating at all. That being said, I don't love deli meat so it's a non-issue.

My FFFC: Sometimes I tell people I've read books when I've just listened to them. I can't stay awake for books anymore!

  • @meggyme I've never been a big sushi/deli meat person, but I break the rules too. I still have caffeine (in the form of a daily soda)! I'll be telling my coworkers about the pregnancy soon and I'm deciding whether I'm going to hide my Diet Dr Pepper in a neutral cup every day, or deal with side-eye from my nosey, bossy, older coworkers.
  • @meggyme I definitely had some soft cheese while out with friends (it was DELICIOUS!) and I had a lunch meat sandwich when work provided lunches and it turned out to be just deli sandwiches. When my options were sandwiches or starve, I chose to eat and I have zero regrets about that!
  • Yeah, I don’t take these rules too seriously either. I am all about coffee, runny egg yolks, soft cheeses, and med-rare steak (now that my meat aversion has passed).
  • I don't like the way my SO smells right now. just his regular human smell. smell aversion is not working out for him...and before i got pregnant i LOVED his pheremone-y smell....i too have eaten deli meat..went to subway last week and it was amazing.
  • My OB said non prepackaged deli meat was fine. Like the stuff behind the deli, subway, Jimmy Johns etc. it’s the kind packaged like Oscar Meyer that she has an issue with. So I’ve been living on deli sandwiches.

I dont want  to tell my parents about my pregnancy or really anyone else for that matter. It’s been nice not having everyone know. I like not hearing you should start walking or you should eat this, not that. Ugh frustrating.

  • I don't care for odd spellings of names, or when what I would view as a "feminine" letter is put in a name for a boy. My friend's son is Braxtyn and that Y drives me nuts.

Please feel free to convince me otherwise :)

My boss and closest coworkers know I’m pregnant and high risk, and keep side eyeing me for my daily chai tea. My doctor said caffeine is fine, and it’s under the recommended amount. I stare at them with a smug look on my face.... I regularly consult my doctor cause I’m high risk and none of them are even close to knowledgeable about pregnancy so they can just suck it lol.
  • @mamakate1616 Yes!! I make eggs Benedict a couple times a month, poached eggs, ham, hollendaise and all. So good!
  • I have coffee a couple times per week. There's a Starbucks across the street from my work and it's just too perfect for a 2pm coffee break. I stick to a tall (12oz) iced latte, which is supposed to have 75mg of caffeine, well below the 200mg recommend limit. Honestly, I think all the added sugar is the worst part about some Starbucks drinks.
  • I heard the baby’s heartbeat today and I’m still not at all excited. I cried in a bad way. I’m keeping it a secret from my husband because he’s really excited. (Back story: I had a placental abruption with my daughter, it was really scary and we both could have died if I didn’t get to the hospital in time. I just feel like a ticking time bomb.)
  • @JScamelipardalis I’m sorry that you feel that way. That’s a lot to have to carry around by yourself. I know you’re probably not looking for advice but maybe telling your husband and sharing your fears with him will help you to be able to feel if not excited, at least good about your pregnancy. He’s your life partner and you should be able to share this mental load with him.

  • @JScamelipardalis I’m really sorry you are feeling this way. I think it’s hard whenever your feelings don’t match with “expectations”. Hugs to you.
  • @mamakate1616 OMG! That sounds AMAZING! Must have eggs benedict now. I love all the runny yolks, too, you can't have them all!

@HoneyBear40 I am with you on the weird spellings. Gender neutral names aren't really my bag, either.

My FFFC: We use a convertible car seat from the beginning and I just babywear for the first several months. With my first kid, my DH and I were a bit judgy with parents who seemed to always carry their babies around like baggage and never hold them. That part of myself died away with my 2nd because I will admit times when I really irked having to get her out of the car seat because she was so soundly sleeping. :#  Live, learn, don't be a judging jerk!
  • @flyingmombula once I hit my second tri with my first two pregnancies, I had a glass of wine a week for the remainder. No shame.
  • @bdesterhouse I feel the same way about stinkin’ Ryan Reynolds’ daughter. James is a boy name!  Ugh.  And with Jessica Simpson & her daughter Maxwell. Why not just name her Maxine?  Would have been so cute.

  • I’m glad I’m not alone in my feelings. Why set your kid up for confusion later? I’m almost 30 and still gripe at my mom for spelling name different. It didn’t help me get an edge in life, it made doing a lot of stuff annoying bc I am constantly correcting people.

  • @mamakate1616 eggs benny has been the only meal i have finished in months. NOM

@Lbloom everyone judges pre-babies. For different things but I think every parent at one point has been like 'Ohhh, I should not have judged this before'

  • So true about judging. I judged my nieces/nephew (rather their parents) so hard because they would NOT talk to my dad or say thank you for ANYTHING. I used to say things like “no way my kids are getting away with that” ....Guess who had a super shy kid who also would not talk or say thank you?  :| that being said I would withhold the treat or toy or whatever until it was said rather than ignoring the issue.

Yes on the sushi. We had it for dinner tonight. And I also had about 1/3 of a can of grapefruit shandy, and I'm only around 11 weeks. Flame away.

  • @meggyme @3rdtime_charmed and other sushi lovers, my husband asked me if Japanese women eat sushi or what they do during pregnancy. I googled it and from what I found, avoiding sushi during pregnancy is not a thing in Japan. Granted, they are not land locked like most of us, but still thought it was interesting how prenatal advice varies by culture and environment.

So it should be no surprise for me to confess I was in the sushi eating club last week. Amazing. :)
  • If my baby would let me eat sushi, I would absolutely eat sushi. I tried it one time and.... Well... It stayed down, but barely. And I just didn't like the way it tasted nearly as much. I might try again after I'm out of the first tri (just one more week!!). I have also indulged in some iced coffee as well. Don't ask me to wake up before 7 and then not give me coffee on occasion.
  • I drink coffee every day and usually a diet soda too.  I also ate raw cookie dough the other day.

My FFFC:  I am not enjoying this pregnancy at all.  I mean, I never was one to love being pregnant but I'm already counting down the days.  I'm also not super excited.  Part of that is because I haven't felt well for months but also I'm still adjusting to the idea of having 3 and of the age difference between my older 2 and this 1.  I think part of my issue is that I have felt something was wrong from the beginning and I will not allow myself to really think about or plan for the baby until I'm more confident that everything is ok.  I haven't got my NIPT results back yet but I'm hoping I will relax and feel more "normal" after that.
  • Here’s mine on a Saturday... I have successfully been in my PJs all day (I’m going to take a bath as soon as DS goes down in about 30 mins).
  • @cdiddy81 internet hugs.

  • @mamakate1616@maggiemadeit and all the other eggs benny lovers, hells YESSSS!!! I had it this weekend and I was sadly disappointed, the sauce was so gross. There’s a place near me that we go to almost every Sunday that makes such a good hollandaise. Light, fluffy, hint of lemon. YUM.

@bdesterhouse I say hold on to it as long as you’d like! My stepmom told me today that I shouldn’t breastfeed my next so I would have more freedom. Likeeee WTF. I breastfeed my first till he was one, it wasn’t like I was on lockdown. I’m sure she’ll be offering plenty of more unsolicited advice so I’m a little jelly that it’s still your secret!

@mamakeeg also a chai lover. It’s either one of those a day or (my FFFC) a Diet Coke. I know it’s TERRIBLE. I don’t drink coffee so from about week 6-11 it’s all that was keeping my head from hitting the desk @ around 2:00.
  • Give me all the coffee! I do like boy names for girls though. My name is keegan and my daughter is Ronnie. James is a little much though. I like the nickname kennie for a little girl, thinking maybe McKinley? I don’t really like Mackenzie as much. Also I totally forgot about undercooked eggs. I’m pretty good about not eating too many things that were not supposed to ask I’m already high risk but I’m definitely not gonna judge moms who aren’t good about it. Being pregnant sucks, let’s just get through it best we can without mom shaming (or so I want to tell a ton of people on social media at least)
  • Flip side though. I feel that those who do follow the rules are judged as lame or stupid or whatever.
And my PGAL brain makes it really hard to step a toe out of line, because I’ve had those regrets before.
