Scheduled C-section mamas

Anyone ever had to or is going in for a scheduled C-section? Worries? Concerns? How are you handling the nerves? Advice?

I've never had a major surgery before and this is my first. My c-section is scheduled for tomorrow the 28th of August. I'll be 39+1. Had to change my plan from a natural delivery to CS because of his size. He's measured above the 98th percentile for months now and his head is wayy too big for my petite self. Doctor said even the incision will be longer because he's so big. His size also prompted a conversation about hemorrhaging because I'm at an increased risk due to how he's likely been stretching things.
I'm scared and nervous and excited to meet my little guy. I was doing fine until this morning when I realized I'm less than 24 hours from being cut open... Now my nerves are going crazy and I'm so scared. Any advice? I'm trying to stay calm and as busy as I can today, but I'm also so big it's hard to move around. So I'm limited. I have blood work to do later and family is driving in today to be there. It's getting so real!

Re: Scheduled C-section mamas

  • Hi! I also have a scheduled c-section but on the 29. It's for the opposite reason; babe is too small and in breech position, so has to come out earlier so we can do the fattening up out here.

I always preferred not knowing the date because the anticipation is worse than the actual thing, so I've just kept really busy with getting stuff ready and cleaning the house, stalking the threads, etc. So I really get you being nervous, the anxiety creeps up on/off for me since the last few days. I find being with people helps as well as it keeps me distracted. Otherwise, we got this!!!! It'll be over super fast and we get to meet our precious little ones! I'll have my fingers crossed for you tomorrow

  • @Patience7150 yes she did! At my U/S two weeks ago they measured his head at 43 weeks. He has a BIG head. His size is why I wasn't given much of an option besides a C-section a week early. Natural would have been too dangerous and he probably would have gotten stuck.

@nackie I'll check it out, I was told he'll easily be over 10lbs. He feels heavy too. I have been having a hard time keeping food down cuz he protests the space being taken. And he's definitely bruised me a few times this pregnancy.

@tpeci oh wow! Mine is head down the right way and fully dropped but he won't fit, my hips aren't big enough for him. I was told things may break or he'd get stuck if a tried natural. Good luck with yours on wednesday!!! You sound more prepared mentally than me!

    Y'all I'm Soo nervous!

  • @fftm9318 haha I wish I was prepared!
    All the best today!
  • @fftm9318 I don’t have any experiences with a scheduled c-section, just wanted to say that your feelings are valid! It always helps me to know exactly what the steps in a procedure are, some people find it helpful to read positive stories of others who have been in similar situations. I imagine if you search for ‘positive c-section birth stories’ you’ll come across some good ones. I hope you have a calm and empowering birth experience!
  • Thanks everyone. We're doing great! Spinal block want as scary as I thought. BUT. It wore off faster than it should have so I started to feel the stitching which was painful . And the incision pain is horrible.
But my son is such a happy little one. He was 8lbs & 15 oz, 21.5 inches. A lb smaller but still big.
  •  I’m glad everything went well and baby and mama are just fine.

I just wanted to jump in and say that I have had two scheduled C-sections thus far.  My first was definitely a little bit easier than the second but neither was what I would consider bad. I had no complications either time. Just more nausea second go round which they gave me meds for and a harder  few days after.  My advice to everyone would be to just take it easy for the six weeks postpartum. At least as easy as you can even if you feel like you’re fine. Walk slowly, move carefully and most of all, please remember that a healthy baby and healthy mama are the only true result that matters. Hopefully section #3 will also be free from complications!
