Re: Randoms 8/27-9/3

  • Knowing how far behind I am for the month at work has not increased my motivation to work any harder at all. My 12 week anatomy scan is tomorrow and that's all I can seem to think about, oh and our fridge is going out so we have to go buy a new one tonight and we didn't want to spend the money on that right now since I have doctor bills coming in.

    Adulting is fun.

  • We put in an offer on a house this morning and I'm REALLLLLLLY hoping the seller isn't a pain in the ass and at least counters our offer (he's way overpriced.  We need to make a deal!).
  • @dtspamama that's so exciting! I hope they work with you.

  • @dtspmama ooohhhh so exciting!!!! i remember those days. it’s such a fun celebration when your offer is accepted!

i’m just venting here but we were pushed towards genetic testing by my OB because they want every first pregnancy to do it. I’m in paradise in Italy and I get a call today telling me I’m a carrier for SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) and that my husband now needs to get tested as well to make sure we’re not both carriers. highly unlikely, and luckily he’s not here with me so he can go for bloodwork first thing tomorrow... but really this is not the news I needed on day two of my trip!!!! Trying hard not to be worried sick about the unknown. Ugh.
  • @indigoheightsblog I’m sorry you are dealing with this! Try your best to enjoy your trip and know that you are doing everything you can do to keep you and your LO healthy. Sometimes the only things we can do are focus on what we have control over and it sounds like there is a lot of unknown still here. We haven’t done the early testing in either pregnancy and that brings lots of questions too. So just try your best to enjoy your trip and try your best to focus on what you can control.
  • @indigoheightsblog ugh I'm sorry for the scary news. You are right though, it's highly unlikely YH is also a carrier. Hope you're still able to enjoy your trip!! Treat yourself with some delicious foods!!!

  • *lurker, but just introduced myself officially*
I also tested as a carrier for spinal muscular atrophy with my first, it was a tough time waiting for my husbands results which he tested negative. From my understanding the first time around with chatting the genetic counselor that it’s very rare to have both parents be carriers.
  • @rmcseattle thank you, this makes me feel a bit better hearing that someone else has gone thorough it! I just want to enjoy pregnancy and not worry about every little thing but I’m finding it quite hard!
  • I analyze appraisals for my job and I have dealt with two appraiser's today who either like to be jerks to customers, hate their job, or truly don't know how to do their job properly. Since I'm not allowed to say what I truly think or feel to them (can't suede them in any form - even when they are completely wrong), I'm going to vent here. To the one appraiser, upgrading your kitchen has $0 RETURN DOLLAR VALUE in the market the customer lives in. Um, no you just don't want to do the research required to find what it would warrant adjustment wise. It's a custom kitchen that cost them a pretty penny. I feel horrible for these people.

The other appraiser, thinks a tarp on a roof is perfectly acceptable and doesn't warrant a roof inspection.

I cannot stand lazy appraisers today.

(sorry in advance to any appraiser's in the group)

  • @bdesterhouse that must be so frustrating! I know I would be crushed if I was that homeowner. When we sold our house last year we put a new roof on it and were told it also had $0 return on investment. I get that the going in position of a buyer is that the roof is of sound quality, but I feel like there is at least SOME value in knowing it was just replaced/upgraded shingles/etc. oh well  :|

  • It is, especially when appraisals are all pretty much opinion based and the opinion of the person inspecting  your home.

  • @indigoheightsblog Saying a little prayer for you that everything will be good! I had to do those genetic tests prior to my transfer and I know waiting for results can feel like a lifetime!

@bdesterhouse I feel you girl! I work for a builder myself and appraisers drive us nuts as well! Many times, they call and want you to give them all the specs on the house and are lazy. So many times I want to say...do your damn job and go to the house, see the value and the neighbor, etc...then call me for comps! Best of luck you for your scan tomorrow!

@dtspmama Best of luck to you!! I know how frustrating it can be. The market here is hot and we had to put in 5 offers before landing our house. Hopefully, you're the only offer and won't have anyone else to deal with :)

  • My random for the day is that I just realized what PGAL stands for and I have posted on that thread and shouldn´t have. I feel like an asshole  :s
  • @Morningstar80 Don't feel too bad... I read that thread for a while before realizing what it was about. This is my first pregnancy and first time on a pregnancy forum and the acronyms still drive me nuts. I had to google everything to understand what people were talking about.

My due date got moved up to 3/2. If it gets moved up again out of March, I'm planning on sticking with the March board...

Same! I got moved up but I'm not going there! :o
  • My cube-mates lunch smells SO bad! My stomach does not need this right now...  :s

  • @bdesterhouse she was complaining that her sister had yet to offer to throw her a shower (she was 16 weeks I think?) and how she had thrown her sister a show and a sprinkle, and watched her kid when she went into labor. And that just because her sister was dealing with some personal stuff, her feelings were still hurt.
  • @dtspmama I agree. Feb19 needs to get with the QFP though.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @meggyme I agree with that!

My last BMB was sort of like February and, while it's nice to be on a board that isn't all snark all the time, I kind of miss it!
  • @dtspmama I miss the snark from TTGP. My June16 board ended up being really tame, especially once everyone else left for facebook. I love the ladies I'm still with, but I miss the entertainment.

  • @Morningstar80 don’t worry about the PGAL board! No harm done.

I’m more than 50% likely to deliver in Feb, but decided to stick it out here. My doc said she will schedule me for Mar 7 if I make it that far but odds are, I won’t. I didn’t ask for permission but I’m glad others made the same decision.

  • I'm opposite of you early March ladies...I went to 41 weeks with DD so I'm not optimistic this kiddo will actually be born in March but I looked at April and just don't want to leave this board of snark :)
  • Has anyone used an essential oils diffuser with their newborn? I'm curious if anyone has some raves about a specific one/ specific scent.

  • @bdesterhouse Officially it means quote for posterity, for example if someone deletes their post throwing a fit about how her sister hasn't planned her shower yet at 16 weeks you can still read the responses with some context.

Unofficially it also means what you think it means.

  • MH just managed to sleep through a pretty incredible (and LOUD) thunderstorm while I’m lying awake thinking about how the recycling lid is open and I’m pretty sure the garage got left unlocked. Hopefully the storm will keep any would be thieves away. (We have a lot of petty larceny in our area with people checking car has fled, etc)
