Re: Symptoms 8/27-9/3

  • I thought we're supposed to get our energy back towards the second trimester? Instead insomnia has been hitting me pretty hard. Over the weekend, my sleep was so messed up that I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time in my life and just no thank you to that ever again.

  • @mayoduck ugh, I read your other post about that and it sounds terrifying. My doctor recommended Natural Calm magnesium in the evening for constipation and to help me sleep. I've been taking that (when I remember) and trying to avoid naps after 3pm and other sleep hygiene practices, mainly not watching TV right before bed and wearing an eye mask to block light in the room.

  • @meggyme Good ideas! I am definitely not great at no-evening-naps and I often watch TV before bed. I'll try to break these habits and see if that helps!
  • overall good...but i am having a bad bout of constipation..mentioned it in the weekly chat thingy...but any tips are gonna be greatly appreaciated...i bought some citracel, which helped initially...but...nope. bought some prunes and ate a few yesterday and nothing...my doc initially told me to do a stool softener like citracel or metamucil and if it gets bad can do a mild laxative...but honestly not sure if i wanna take one quite yet....
  • @zionsmama85 I struggled so badly with this in the early weeks. The thing that finally helped me was switching my prenatal vitamins to a plant-based gummy. Night and day!

I hope you get some relief soon!
  • @zionsmama85 citrucel and metamucil are both fiber supplements that can help with digestion but are not necessarily stool softeners. You might ask for clarification, but stool softeners like dulcolax or colace are less of a supplement and more of a medication that might work better for your situation.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @meggyme i think the drug list they gave me didn't say what each is (just had them listed by constipation), so i just went down the line LOL. so i will keep in mind to try the dulcolax or colace if it comes down to it.
@maggiemadeit thanks for the tip! i have some gummies now, but veggie probably would make a difference!
  • Colace and Dulcolax were my friends with my first pregnancy. I had the opposite issue with my second pregnancy. This time I have a feeling Colace and I will be friends again. Good luck, that feeling is no fun at all.

  • I put a little bit of miralax in my hot chocolate every morning (ok'd by my OB) and it works like a dream. The constipation is the worst!!!
  • My acne is starting to get really bad and it is painful! I haven't noticed any difference in the oiliness of my skin, but I've got 3x as many pimples as I normally would have. This was a big issue last pregnancy too and I've already gotten a few deep, cystic pimples this time around.

  • @zionsmama85 sounds like you’ve gotten some great recommendations so far! I feel you on the constipation! Mine was horrible weeks ago! I have added a stool softener 1 morning and 1 night, 2 fiber gummies/day, removed iron from my prenatals, and try to eat an apple everyday. I’m finally going regular again. Luckily the generic cvs stool softners are helping but my midwife recommended Colace and miralax if it didn’t get better. Hope you get relief soon!
  • Ug, @meggyme my skin has started going nuts too. I have always had issues with acne but I’m getting it in places that used to be clear (like smack middle of my cheeks, usually sticks to T zone and hair line), and there are just so.many.pimples!!

  • @zionsmama85 I had that same problem and nothing worked until I started taking Psyllium Husk which is a fiber supplement. I order if off Amazon and comes in a huge bottle. I also take a prenatal probiotic to help. Still have the occasional constipation if I overdo it on cheese, etc but most days I have no issues :)

Only annoying symptom I've gotten lately are mild headaches. I've been trying not to use tylenol or anything, but may have to give in soon if peppermint oil doesn't cut it.

  • Nausea has been so so much better (13 weeks tomorrow!). But I managed to give myself tendinitis in my wrist from weeding the garden. I want to swear every time I pick my 30 pound toddler up. :/

@mayoduck I’m so sorry about that sleep paralysis episode! Fx it was a one time thing!
  • @mayoduck I watched a really scary documentary about sleep paralysis awhile ago. No thanks!! Sorry you had to deal with that and hopefully it doesn't happen again!

  • @mamaoftwomonkeys so sorry about the tendinitis! Hope it heals quickly. Did your nausea start passing during the twelfth week?

I am starting my twelfth week and am still as nauseous as ever. Hoping this is the week it leaves! Also still exhausted. This is my second pregnancy and I’m getting the round ligament pain a little earlier. I am really hopeful this second trimester is going to save me
  • @itsmebecky Yes, it definitely started subsiding only this past week! Hopefully yours passes soon too!
  • @itsmebecky I’m with you! I’m 13 weeks on Thursday and I feel like as this pregnancy has gone on my nausea is getting worse! :( I’m hopeful that 2nd trimester is better than the 1st has been!
  • I’m 10 weeks today and my belly is SO ACHY. I’m definitely showing (I’m naturally super petite and I’m probably the only one who can tell at this point, but still it’s hard uterus getting ready for baby to grow) and I feel like my RLP is insane. Anyone else? It’s not crampy, but so tight and sore I’m starting to worry. I never felt this way with my daughter. I barely even showed with her cause I was so sick and had her early so this is all new to me.
  • @ashley14598 yes! Same!! It feels never ending lol. Our second trimesters are going to be amazing
  • @mamakate1616 my DD keeps asking me if my pimples are mosquito bites (or skeety bumps as she calls them).

  • Add me to the skin issues list! I have like a garden of blackheads on my chin...ick!!
And hungry/nauseous...if I don't eat like every hour on the hour I'm sick
  • Ugh, 13.5 weeks and I puked for the first time this morning.  :s  Whyyy? Also feeling dizzy now. I've had a bit of dizziness for a few days.
  • @lovesclimbing I'm 10+1 and I haven't puked yet but the nausea kicked in about 5 days ago for me and has gotten worse. I've been incredibly dizzy daily as well.  Dr said to increase water and try to rest but I just went back to work yesterday and with a 2 yo that's impossible.  I hope we are feeling better soon.

  • Ok apologies in advance for TMI,  but any magic cures for “immediate” constipation relief?? I had a post-birth-rivaling experience this morning and I think my body is afraid to let me go #2 again. I’m behind the curve on softeners (dumb dumb dumb!) but have taken 2 of those and also started my fiber gummies again so I should be ok going forward, assuming I survive. I’ve been uncomfortable for a couple days and today has crossed into painful territory.

  • @mamakate1616 ugh! I was in that boat 2 Saturday’s ago! It was awful along with shakes and the whole 9 yards! Sounds like you are back on track now. I had to drink a LOT of water that day, take a long bath, eat an apple, and take 2 stool softeners. Now I just take my fiber gummies regularly, 2 stool softeners/day one in the morning and one in the evening, and make sure I drink water throughout the day. Sorry I don’t have an answer for immediate relief other than that I totally understand how you feel!
  • I cannot breathe!!!!!  I am constantly feeling like I can’t get a deep breath. It hits me at random times too.... on the couch watching tv, at the grocery store walking, and sometimes when I am
moving around doing chores.  I just constantly feel the need to try and take a deep breath because I feel like I am not getting enough oxygen. I had a very bad episode at Target where I couldn’t even complete a sentence and felt extremely dizzy like i was going to faint. It was so awful!!! I’ve read shortness of breath is normal in pregnancy but I didn’t experience this with my first. I am taking a daily allergy medicine as recommended by my pcp but when I brought it up to my ob a couple months ago she said it wasn’t pregnancy related. I feel like it makes me feel ever more exhausted like i just ran a marathon. I’m so miserable!!!

Has anyone else experiences this? I cannot figure out if it is pregnancy related or not.
  • @AgGal2010 I get shortness of breath, but it generally comes with some sort of physical activity even if it's just going up a flight of stairs. And it's never being unable to catch my breath, it's feels more like I ran up them instead of just walked up the stairs.

What you're experiencing sounds different. If you usually experience allergies, it could be related to that. Otherwise maybe ask them to check your red blood count? I think that's the part of blood that carries oxygen. Your body has recently greatly increased the amount of blood in your system, perhaps it's not in the proportion you need to properly oxygenate your body. I hope they can figure it out and it gets better, that sounds miserable.

  • @AgGal2010 yeah, I also get shortness of breath going up stairs (due to increased progesterone during pregnancy) but getting it while standing still seems more severe. You may want to run it by your doctor. Pregnancy can be associated with higher risk of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs), especially if you have a personal or family history of a hypercoagulation disorder.
  • @AgGal2010  How are you feeling mentally? One of my SIL was about to move to Okinawa and started having a lot of trouble breathing, heavy feelings on her chest, dizziness, etc and it freaked her out enough to go get checked out. Her doctor told her it sounded like anxiety and gave her something to treat and some other exercises/things to do to get to the root of what was upsetting her.

  • mamakate1616  i have been having the same issues. I started drinking citracel sunday, and have been downing prunes like a maniac. i finally had some magic happen yesterday! thats my recommendation, besides drinking lots of water and trying to keep eating things with fiber. i have learned my lesson too,  because i was MISERABLE. and if you check the thread i had people with other great tips for me too. i think the prunes were definitely a game changer.
  • I added coffee back to my mornings and it’s helped my constipation a lot.

Im having such awful RLP today. I can’t get comfortable at all. My house is a disaster and I should really try to pick up before DH gets home from work but I just can’t manage.

  • Lol @3rdtime_charmed i feel your pain! I teleworked yesterday and was trying to clean up really quick in between picking up DD and DH getting home. All she wanted to do was play and I told her I had to clean first. She said “No, play with me! Don’t worry, Dad will clean for you when he gets home!”

  • I’m official in the headache club! Ugh!!!!!
  • I had super painful cramps this evening. So painful I couldn’t stand up and I had to lay down. And then when I was laying down I swear I felt the baby move. But I’m pretty sure that is impossible at 13 weeks.

I feel better now but the whole episode was so weird.
  • I felt baby move on Saturday and again yesterday! I totally think it's possible to feel it earlier than 16 weeks or whatever they say
  • If you have a Posterior placenta it’s totally possible. I’ve felt little jabs when babe hits a nerve. My friend who is a L&D core nurse said I wasn’t crazy. Especially since this is my 5th pregnancy.

  • 13.5 weeks and I've been waking up several times a night because whatever hip I'm lying on is aching. I ordered a full body pillow that I'm hoping will help. Anyone else experience this hip pain and have tips for relief?
  • @mayoduckI had it with my last pregnancy. I used a snoogle pillow and that helped-- so did sleeping with a pillow between my knees.

    SaveSave
  • @mayoduck I have had it with both pregnancies - it started a lot earlier this time. The full body pillow definitely will help, but I discovered that they're not all made the same. My sister gave me one that she had used that just wasn't enough support for me, so if the one you ordered doesn't work, don't be afraid to try something different! Also, later in pregnancy I saw a chiropractor for the hip pain and that also helped a lot.
